Has to be sliders with socks. It looks terrible.

It was a few pages back but bravo to the poster who suggested white trainers make people's legs look like golf clubs. Hilarious. But also, I'm not sure I'll ever look at a pair of white trainers again. So, thanks for that bitch 😅

I can't stand Birkenstocks - hideous, ubiquitous, clumpy clod-hoppers.

@NOTthisOldchestnut I don't know one person in reality who would give a shit that someone was dressed in exercise gear, it's very common, about 50% of my students seem to live in it! Don't take what people say on this thread too seriously, you sound like you look great!

Thank you, i think I'm at a weird age. I'm 38, so some fashions are too young, others are too old for me. I always like to dress for my shape, not what is "on trend." There are so many judgmental people, I was oblivious to it until reading some MN threads!
When I was a student it was all understated; i don't think I could cope with being young today! Things have changed so much in recent times. God I feel old, it doesn't help that this morning I found a top that is older than primary school kids ☺️🫢

I don't like men without shirts in shops or restaurants. I don't want to have to negotiate a narrow aisle with a sweaty man with BO thanks. Don't care whether they are hairy or not, don't care whether they are in the park or on the beach. Indoor clothing is best for all, I feel.

You wouldn’t enjoy my friends job then! She works an early shift in a hotel restaurant and has to take orders and serve food to barely-dressed men sporting shorts and vests and flip flops, (and occasionally bare feet!!) these charmers are very often unwashed, and unshaven🤮 She loathes the summer holidays for this reason.
Surely it doesn’t take much effort to try to get to breakfast NOT wearing what you’ve slept in? Yuck

Skin-tight men’s suits, that look like they’ve shrunk in the wash. The ones with Lycra in the trouser, creating obvious todger-toe… Worn with shiny shoes & no socks. Nor a good look!

GettingStuffed · 08/07/2024 16:58

I love frilly tiered dressed, but I was around in the early 80s when gypsy skirts were around.

I really hate the "I think you've forgotten to put your bottom half on" mini skirts. If you flush your undies every time you move it's too short. Surely mid thigh is high enough.

BogRollBOGOF · 08/07/2024 16:59

I thought bum-scrunch leggings were bad until I ran a race recently, and a young woman in front of me had a pale bum-scrunch leotard with shortie legs.
It had a scooped back so all her back sweat trickled down to her waist and merged with the arse sweat 🤢

Sweat's gonna happen, but good god, no one wants to see it in high definition like its wicking out of your arse 🤮

I'd rather run in a shell suit 😂

Alwaystimeforacupoftea · 08/07/2024 17:03

I can't work out what to wear.

"Young" fashion is 1980s primary school teacher chic which in my head is middle-aged. But if I stick with older fashions that I like, that's dated and middle-aged too. I can't win. Neither should I wear 1993 teenage revival on the grounds that that's what I was wearing about 30 years ago.

In recent years I've bought a couple of selectively chosen floral dresses, but there's so many frumpy, voluminous, unflattering dresses out there. Midi does not work for me and makes me look shorter, stumpy and either like I'm playing dress-up in DMs 70s floral gowns or like I've grown out of them.

I've bought very little that wasn't replacement of basics.

Alwaystimeforacupoftea · 08/07/2024 17:08

@BogRollBOGOF this is in chat, come over to Style and Beauty and ask some questions, mostly people are nicer, I say mostly!

NecessaryNC24 · 08/07/2024 17:09

Must admit floral dresses are endemic where I work, with colleagues over say 45? I don't know what it is but it's like they all got dressed together.

GettingStuffed · 08/07/2024 17:10

NOTthisOldchestnut · 08/07/2024 12:56

I've just bought this dress. It has a really fine floral print, and is midi? Does this offend people? I'm very slim, a size UK 8-10. Will I look awful and frumpy? It is to go with flat sandles.
You're all making me paranoid, as there are so many ppl going on about floral!!

Edited

I think it's lovely, you'd be better off posting in style and beauty though

@OlympicDimples your poor friend!

Yes, I feel sorry for her, but sometimes the descriptions have me laughing my head off!

Her one “favourite” was a gentleman who wore the same string vest for the entire week he was stopping at the hotel… she knew it was the same one because of the stains on it

Couldn't do her job…

Alwaystimeforacupoftea · 08/07/2024 17:24

@OlympicDimples I'm now in awe of your friend that she can work there and keep a straight face. This is The Worst!

Just be prepared for some ‘sorry OP that’s a hideous dress and that style is very dated now, have a look at something like this which is not only timeless but will go with anything’

100% the fillers and Botox. So weird talking to people when their face is full of this shit. I cant concentrate on what they’re saying because I’m too distracted by their weird facial expressions.

100%

NOTthisOldchestnut · 08/07/2024 18:56

@voiceofastar

🤣 And they'll slate said fashion choice as being a cult dress for the over 45's.

Thanks, well I've bought it now. I would be abit weary on the age range. Don't want a 20 something year old telling me to buy something similar to the above 😂

Usually the trousers are above ankle length, blue or wine coloured.

That dress is very , erm, non clingy over the hips .
I especially love the clear plastic sandles that would squish your toes and leave your corns looking like a robbers face smooshed into a pair of womens tights .

FrostyMorn · 08/07/2024 22:12

'turkey teeth' had me so confused wondering why anyone would be trying to emulate the mouth of a bird and one that doesn't, as far as I'm aware, even have teeth. Then I saw a helpful post in which the poster had written Turkey with a capital T and the penny has now dropped.

scalt · 08/07/2024 22:29

With all the mentions of sliders and socks, I regularly commit the fashion crime which was seen more in the 90s: trainers without socks. 😊

I'm pretty sure it's not even being worn by the model but has been superimposed. I don't think those legs belong to the person in the top half either. It was described as plus sized but is clearly not being modelled by a plus sized woman. My first and last visit to Shein!

Ginkypig · 08/07/2024 23:35

Iv not long had this conversation with someone

we both said the socks and sliders thing because we are of an age where it really always has been a big no no and we said it was only old men in “Jesus” sandals with socks in our day. Noone else would have been seen dead in public like that.

but

we also noted that we felt that it would be so comfortable and cool without the sweaty feet in sandals syndrome but despite that neither of us could actually bring ourselves to actually wear that look outside in public!

we decided that while we didn’t judge we just couldn’t emotionally cop doing it ourselves without completely judging ourselves!
