I don't like men without shirts in shops or restaurants. I don't want to have to negotiate a narrow aisle with a sweaty man with BO thanks. Don't care whether they are hairy or not, don't care whether they are in the park or on the beach. Indoor clothing is best for all, I feel.

Surely any restaurant would turn away a shirtless man? Which "restaurant" we talking? 😂

Even supermarkets have been clamping down on this sort of thing, public pjs etc as well.

Gowlett · 08/07/2024 12:53

Nude coloured leggings. Nuff said…
Those fluttery fluffy looking eyelashes.
And the top lip filler thing. So bad!
Also WAG-style designer handbags.

NOTthisOldchestnut · 08/07/2024 12:56

I've just bought this dress. It has a really fine floral print, and is midi? Does this offend people? I'm very slim, a size UK 8-10. Will I look awful and frumpy? It is to go with flat sandles.
You're all making me paranoid, as there are so many ppl going on about floral!!

I’m sure I read recently there’s a style/vibe called grannycore. I think some crochet cardigans etc can be gorgeous.

Actually yes, you're right. I'm not meaning the kind of crochet that is more like open-weave or very loose knitting. I mean the kind of crochet that is granny squares all sewn together. I saw this done as a waistcoat and wanted to ask how many car seat covers had to die to make it.

Gowlett · 08/07/2024 13:51

Granny-core is deffo a thing. Lots of the young women I work with wear battered old Levi’s, a chunky knit jumper, no make-up & their hair in a bun, accessorised with roundy glasses & a vintage leather bag (probably Granny’s). It’s the sort of thing I wore in the 80s / early 90s.

Gowlett · 08/07/2024 13:53

NOT, love that dress. I like florals!

Alwaystimeforacupoftea · 08/07/2024 13:56

@NOTthisOldchestnut I've seen topless men in my local corner shop, and in pub gardens (so not posh restaurants for sure!) Abroad, often English people will sit with tops off when the locals do not. I just prefer tops on for men and women.

longdistanceclaraclara · 08/07/2024 14:04

The awful primark seamless shorts / leggings with the matching crop tops. I don't wants to see your vulva / arse crack coming towards me thanks. I've had many arguments with my kids over these.

longdistanceclaraclara · 08/07/2024 14:06

@NOTthisOldchestnut I don't class that as midi, midi is mid calf to me.

Haha, i know you get it outdoors, abroad etc. I thought you were meaning in sit down restaurants indoors, and large supermarkets etc. I was imagining all sorts 😂

Oh, it is advertised as midi, might just be because the model is tall, and lifting it in the pic. It'll come down to just below the knee on me I'm sure. If it swamps me, it'll have to go back 🤦🏼‍♀️

I wouldn't class that as midi, midi to me is mid calf (and not very flattering on me). It's also rather nice!

I know what you mean. I feel almost voyeuristic at times because of the way these girls dress when I’m walking behind them. I’d really like to say something but obviously keep my mouth shut but it’s a nasty style (if you can call it style) in my view. It’s as if the wearer has no sense of decency for themselves (yes I guess I’m old fashioned). Sometimes I see them and think God Almighty aren’t they embarrassed (I know I am 😁).

Mens arse cracks because their trousers are badly fitted are just as bad. No I don’t want to see that thank you!

Thank you, I can't carry off bold larger print florals. They overpower me, but fine print I can do (at least I think I can), this thread is scaring me! I think as well as fashion being subjective, it is difficult because we're all different ages, shapes and size, and suit different things. My friend looks amazing in maxi dresses, I look like the bride of frankenstein!😂 Too short doesnt work, i'm 38, no spring chicken lol. I tend to go for around the knee area if possible in dresses (not too short, but npr too long). Shorts I'll wear above the knee, but with an actual crotch, and not the knicker type ones!

voiceofastar · 08/07/2024 14:33

Women:
Little house on the prairie dresses
Crop tops (I'm very squeamish about belly buttons)
Shorts that behave like thongs
Lucy & Yak
Cargo trousers

Men:
Polo shirts, especially buttoned up
Pointy or square-toed shoes
That ubiquitous haircut... faded at the sides and longer on top
Tight t shirts

I wanted to make the list even but I don't pay much attention to men's fashion, or men in general.

Alwaystimeforacupoftea · 08/07/2024 14:35

@NOTthisOldchestnut that dress is lovely, and for the record isn't either midi or floral, but even if it was, I don't think it's the worst fashion trend. I know I mentioned midi, but it's not that it looks awful or offensive, it looks fine, but I'm just sick of it as it doesn't suit me (short person), I'm currently buying different length stuff off Vinted.

JC03745 · 07/07/2024 12:54

TBH- I would have no clue what is actually IN fashion? Things I can't stand though:

  1. Off the shoulder/strapless tops where the person clearly needs more support (I say this as someone with large boobs and who has needed a bra since my teens!)
  2. Trout pout paired with massive drag eyelashes
  3. Skinny jeans, infact, skinny anything
  4. Open toed shoes with manky and/or hairy toes
  5. Fluffy slides which look like slippers
  6. Wearing gym wear to the grocery shop, bank, post office- infact, anywhere that isn't the gym!

It sounds like you just hate young women from a particular socioeconomic group, tbh.

Thank you! I'm hoping it'll be on the knee, and not too much longer🤞
It has tiny purple mini flowers on, but looks sort of unclear from a distance, if that makes sense. We will see when it arrives, I can rarely find anything in the shops. I just don't want to walk around having ppl think I'm wearing my grandma's curtains, or from little house on the prairie 😂

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 08/07/2024 14:59

Around me every second girl is wearing socks over leggings but that's because it's all horse territory here and that's what you get when you take your jodphur boots off, rather than a fashion statement.

100% the fillers and Botox. So weird talking to people when their face is full of this shit. I cant concentrate on what they’re saying because I’m too distracted by their weird facial expressions.

Yes!
It's that weird thing where you are desperately trying to look them straight in the eye (impossible due to the Drag artist lashes) but in your peripheral the lips are screaming to be stared at.
Fake black or blonde hair
(Clip on extensions slipping off)
Deep tan,
Lips,
Tatts,
Bum scruncher leggings
Sliders or fluffy slippers
Oh - and all day Saturday - fake hair all rollered up ready for a night out 😂

This is what i consider a little house on the prairie dress (albeit with a 70s twist!) https://www.endource.com/product/lauren-ralph-lauren-paisley-belted-jersey-tiered-dress/ZTIUL9gEBAABVNp2 nothing like your dress @NOTthisOldchestnut, it looks nice

Ah, phew because it is arriving tomorrow! Thank you!!

Could I just ask those of you that say you don't like exercise gear outside of the gym a question? I wear leggings/trainers/tshirts on a lot of the school runs, because I do a great deal of walking. I do 3 school runs a day to be precise.
I don't take the car, and travel light, so phone in side pocket, headphones. i'm always running back and forwards, sometimes I jog one of the ways, when the kids aren't with me. Are you judging me when I'm stood in the queue? I don't see jeans working, or being comfortable for this kind of active day.

Echobelly · 08/07/2024 15:08

Yes, I agree with what I call 'arse shorts/leggings' with a gathered seam up the crack and sometimes a pattern that is there to make sure people REALLY know you have two arse cheeks! It just seems silly.

Alwaystimeforacupoftea · 08/07/2024 15:10

@NOTthisOldchestnut I don't know one person in reality who would give a shit that someone was dressed in exercise gear, it's very common, about 50% of my students seem to live in it! Don't take what people say on this thread too seriously, you sound like you look great!
