Anyone else out there who hasn't had Covid?

Lilifer · 03/07/2024 20:15

I have yet to get Covid. Both me and my mum (85years old) have never had it or at least have never tested positive.

I think this is really strange as pretty much everyone else that I know has had it and some have had it multiple times over and been really ill.

What also makes it odd is that I have a chronic low white blood cell count which is not life threatening but supposedly leaves me more vulnerable to illness.

The longer it goes on the more I am hoping that maybe I somehow have some immunity to this virus, or maybe I'm just really lucky, I hope that continues 🙏🙏

Sod's Law now I will probably get just for starting a thread about never getting it 😤

Four of us here, no one had it, two worked in hospitals and one in retail, no one being particularly careful or taking more than basic precautions. It's just odd.

It's so random isn't it as to who gets it and who doesn't - for something that is supposedly highly contagious it's very inconsistent in how it hits some folk but not others

I haven't had it. I worked frontline emergency services through the pandemic and have asthma, so am surprised it hasn't caught me yet.

If one of the symptoms was not having any symptoms, how could you possibly know? Have you had a sore throat? A mild cold? Could've been Covid

Aproductofmyera80s · 03/07/2024 22:30

I’ve only tested once when we were visiting my FIL, it was negative, never took any other tests. I think I may have had it 2 years ago, but I didn’t test because I only had a headache and some shivering which lasted a day, thought I just had heat exhaustion but then my mum whose work made her test still tested positive 4 days later. I never tested….so may or may not have had it

Sunnytwobridges · 03/07/2024 23:13

i haven’t had it and neither has my DD. We’ve both tested quite a bit but always negative. I know some people that have had 4-5 times.

Oblomov24 · 03/07/2024 23:31

Not as far as I know. None of us (Dh or ds's) were ill. Asymptomatic or not at all.

ForGreyKoala · 03/07/2024 23:37

I haven't had it and neither has my exDH. My late DF, who died last year, never had it either - despite living in an apartment attached to a rest home and dining with people who tested positive the next day. I test every time I have cold symptoms. I'm just about to have my 7th jab (not in the UK, anyone can have them here).

Charlie2121 · 03/07/2024 23:43

I’ve no idea. I’ve never taken a test.

CuriousJBJ · 03/07/2024 23:46

I've not knowingly had it, but DS had had it twice; once before being vaccinated and once after. I've been in direct contact with him and several other people with it, and, so far, haven't had a positive test.

DontThinkJustDo · 03/07/2024 23:51

I've never tested positive but think I may have had it twice. The first time DP caught it despite not really mixing with anyone, so I think he must have caught it from me. But officially, no I have never had Covid. Touches wood

Yellowtrouser · 03/07/2024 23:51

Not me
DH had twice
DCs had it together on seperate occasion

Much testing I never tested positive or felt all unwell!

Normallynumb · 03/07/2024 23:57

I've never had it despite being in close contact with people who tested positive the next day!

Apileofballyhoo · 04/07/2024 00:10

DS and I both had it twice, both times at the same time, but DH didn't get it either time. DS and I spend more time together in the car and hang out in his room a bit, which is quite small, whereas our main living room is big and airy, though DS sits next to DH on the couch. The first time we had it we wore masks when we were in the same room as DH for a few days, which was the advice at the time. We had all had vaccines and I think DH and I had had booster shots.it was like a moderately bad cold.

The second time we had it DS wasn't bad but I had the full covid experience of burning lungs, lack of smell and so on. I was easily fatigued for about 2 months. DH didn't get it but he had had another booster shot, which I didn't.

DH has very rarely had a cold in the nearly 20 years I've known him. Interestingly, he got a rotten cold in 2021, which he caught from my DM, who was staying with us. We were sure they both had covid, both got tested, neither of them had it, and DM has never had it either. We wondered if the cold provided them with some kind of immunity.

Whattodowithallthebooks · 04/07/2024 00:27

Neither me, dh or the kids have had it as far as we know and neither has my mum. I normally catch everything going but we are all fully vaxed. I wfh though and we don't go out much, and kids are autistic so don't tend to mix closely with many people.

RogueFemale · 04/07/2024 00:30

Never knowingly had it (nor had symptoms to suspect I might have it).

MonsteraMama · 04/07/2024 00:33

How do you know? I've had it twice and was completely asymptomatic, the only reason I knew I had it was because of mandatory testing at work.

Thelnebriati · 04/07/2024 00:36

Family members have had it 3 times and tested positive, I've nursed them and felt a bit ill for 48 hours afterwards, but never had full symptoms or a positive test.

justasking111 · 04/07/2024 00:45

DH and I never caught it despite being surrounded by people who did until June. Husband quite poorly. Mine was just a mild cold.

It's a funny virus.

DramaAlpaca · 04/07/2024 00:52

My parents in their 80s never caught it and my dad in particular wasn't exactly careful, absolutely refusing to stay at home and popping out for supplies most days.

It took three years until me, DH and DS caught it, March 2023. If we hadn't decided to test we wouldn't have known, it was so mild in all of us.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 04/07/2024 00:52

I've never had it.

Berlinlover · 04/07/2024 01:20

Oddly enough those of us who never gave a damn about never got it.

DeftLemonDog · 04/07/2024 01:47

I’ve never had it as far as I know. I had a bad flu which I thought might be Covid but tests done and sent to a pathologist proved it was flu.

I do take some precautionary measures (although not at the more stringent levels of two years ago). I’m fully vaccinated, And I home test quite regularly when I get a sore throat or feel sick etc.. I have chronic health conditions so I just don’t want to get any sicker, if I can help it. I mind my young school age grandchildren very regularly. But I do have a portable air filter in my home which is turned on whenever I’m expecting visitors or grandkids. I also keep windows and doors open as much as possible (weather Permitting) at those times. I’ll wear a mask when I find myself in public spaces that are crowded.

Hitchen’s Razor.

Also, isn’t that implying that those that did get it and died from it, only did so because they ‘gave a damn about it.’

GrinAndBeerIt · 04/07/2024 03:56

Neither me or my husband have had it that I'm aware of.
Neither of us have had vaccinations either.
