Heat haters unite

Do I love the sun to shine? yes
Do I like it when it's hot? No

This is a thread for anyone who doesn't like the heat. We can moan to our hearts content 😁

I feel guilty more than anything because I live near the coast and that equates to people telling me that I should be at the beach my every waking moment.

If you enjoy, please do! I'm happy for you 😁

Hi hi. I'm here for this.

London is as hot as a volcano this week. My tolerance is getting worse for it every summer!

Ever since my first pregnancy my body has just really changed, I used to love high temperatures. Now anything above about 24C feels like sitting in a fire pit

Mumoftwo1316 · 25/06/2024 06:40

And it's no good suggesting leaving London. It's the same everywhere in the uk now. My in laws live up north and it's still too hot when we visit them, too.

Last summer we had a summer holiday in Norway and it was bliss. The locals actually said what a shame it's cool for the time of year, and raining for your holiday, and I was like no no, I love it, this is exactly what I was hoping for!

Snooglequack · 25/06/2024 06:41

I have my eye on the weather app that says drizzle for next Monday. Bliss.

Thursday however says 28. No Thursday, no no no.

Tegridyfarms · 25/06/2024 06:46

Much much prefer winter. So much easier to warm up than to cool down. My flat is like a furnace and I've been up all night too hot to sleep.

DappledThings · 25/06/2024 06:48

Woken up with a headache. Can't walk the dog till late. Already fed up of worrying kids don't have enough suncream on.

At least longest day has passed.

Brendabigbaps · 25/06/2024 06:49

Oh I hate it so much, sticky, sweaty, grumpy.
give me a dry cool 18 any day!!

bluecomputerscreen · 25/06/2024 06:51

it's not the heat per se but the change from high to low to high to low.
would much prefer to have more stable weather that's more predictable.
24 all summer with the occassional rain would be great.

Deathraystare · 25/06/2024 07:33

I don't mind the outside being hot but my room is boiling! I never have the heating on. I believe it is whoever lives both side next to me that have heating on. I do have a window open but can ony do so so far as it is hard to open, plus there are pigeons outside. My pillow is soaking every night! I have gone through the change so it is not that.

greencartbluecart · 25/06/2024 08:05

The windows should only be open when it's cooler outside than in

The blinds need closing during the day

It is marginally cooler much further north - that always give me great pleasure to know it's 2 to 5 degrees cooler then where we used to live - we are forecast 22 today

Can't fix your neighbours

SweetChilliSauces · 25/06/2024 08:14

I’m on a hill walking holiday.
First day hot but cloudy and got sunburned shoulders on a decent enough 3 hour hike. Second day far too hot to hill walk so went to Yorkshire sculpture park and walked through a lot of woodland. So whilst I like the evenings we can’t do our planned walking as it’s just too hot.

Thankfully we are staying in a really ancient stone cottage so it’s cool.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 25/06/2024 08:33

I’m with you! Heat makes me more ill. I’m currenly sat in the garden with my morning cuppa (no sun out yet) and there’s a bit of a breeze which is bliss!

We also had air con installed in the living room the other week - also bliss. If you have the funds it’s worth every penny!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 25/06/2024 08:42

I find heat harder and harder to deal with as I get older. Only three days then back to my optimum temperatures.

Now just waiting for the heat lovers to come on here and accuse us of wanting to be 'cosy' and 'snuggle under a blanket.'

Halsall · 25/06/2024 08:46

Joining you all. Hate the heat and it brings on my migraines. It makes me sweaty and uncomfortable. I’ll be doing a long drive tomorrow so I can be in air-conditioned comfort for hours, hurrah!

can i ask how much this costs, air con in the living room? I'm tempted unless it's gazillions

Well, we were quote £2380 by one firm and £1890 by another for the same equipment. We went with the lower! Awkwardly, the first firm did some plumbing for us prior and had to come back to look at something (not their fault) and saw we went with the other company. He wasn’t bothered but did explain as it was a relatively new service for them to offer he’d priced it higher thinking it would take longer to install so the extra was for labour really.

I also know someone who got it in their kitchen because they have a cake business and it cost them £800. I think the price changes depends on position of external unit compared with internal. In the baker’s case, it was straight through the wall - they also had a cheaper brand but ours only offered Bosch. In ours, we had to run it through bedroom floorboards from the back of our house to the living room.

I decided on having it in the living room as I spend most of my day there, and I thought it meant others in the house can benefit. I also sleep downstaire when it’s too hot!

EasterlyDirection · 25/06/2024 09:07

Yes, I love the long hours of daylight in summer and the sunshine but once the temperature gets above. about 22C that is starting to be too hot for me unless I can stay in the shade or find non-active things to do. Thankfully my workplace is air-conditioned.

OldTinHat · 25/06/2024 09:16

The only glimmer of hope for me is that we've passed midsummer so the days are getting shorter again! Roll on autumn, crisp mornings and fresh air instead of being nuked by the sun the moment you venture out.

Careful...that's just asking for retaliation.

OriginalUsername2 · 25/06/2024 09:22

Sweaty Betty here! Hotness makes me feel weak and sick. The world feels like an oven. I needed to pop to the shop for milk yesterday and couldn’t face it until 9pm!

CalicoPusscat · 25/06/2024 09:24

@SoSobored same as you, like some sunlight, averse to too high a heat.

It's not hot here though, I have the heater on...

Cattery · 25/06/2024 09:24

Great for getting the washing dry but not great for much else. Have to constantly watch the cat food bowls and he can’t have wet food because of poxy flies. I don’t want the sun in my eyes. Now I’ve gotta search through my wardrobe for more “summery” trousers so I don’t look like a weirdo in my usual trackies when I go to Tesco. Roll on the rain I say x

DappledThings · 25/06/2024 09:39

Forecast for here has changed. This heat won't break till a week Thursday now. Pfff.

Fluffyc1ouds · 25/06/2024 09:41

Come down to the SW! It's been mainly overcast and about 18 degrees for ages now. Although I do believe the sun is arriving at some point this week.

You had me going there. Checked my area on the BBC and it gets to 25 on Thursday then down to low 20s.

25 I can manage.
