Do I love the sun to shine? yes
Do I like it when it's hot? No

This is a thread for anyone who doesn't like the heat. We can moan to our hearts content 😁

I feel guilty more than anything because I live near the coast and that equates to people telling me that I should be at the beach my every waking moment.

If you enjoy, please do! I'm happy for you 😁

A good tip which I discovered last week is to freeze some water in a bottle then place it on your chest - between boobs if you're female - and the cold cools the blood going through the heart. It really helped last week when I was having a bit of a thing and couldn't cool down. Within five minutes I felt normal again.

terrifyingtoes · 25/06/2024 17:51

This is actually a very interesting thread on why low to mid 20c in the uk can be problematic- when much higher temps in other countries aren’t so.
A few good points to throw in our defence at those who think we’re just complaining for the fun of it!

My people!

Currently sat with my feet in a tepid bath that I've run for my 6 year old (he's not usually bothered by heat but it's so sticky here!).

I can't stand summer - it's even too hot in the morning walking to school at half 8, I am sweaty and grumpy.

Bought some talc (cornstarch based) last night but still woke up dripping with sweat 😭 roll on autumn

@marshmallowfinder

Tell me about your ceiling fan! How noisy is it and was it easy to fit?

I wanted a really decent one that would last and not give me trouble, be noisy, get unbalanced, etc.. I ended up with a Fantasia ceiling fan with lights. It works by remote control, 3 speeds, light dimmer and simply is fitted where the existing light was. I had an electrician do it, but you can do it yourself. I think it's got a 10 year guarantee too. It makes only a slight noise but I do think it's extremely quiet overall. I wish I had one in every room! Sleeping under it is excellent. Just make sure to choose the right size for your room.

Windows/doors opened first thing until 7.30ish am, so feels cool inside at 23c. Currently sat in our north facing garden enjoying the blue sky. Not much fun working through the heat though.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 25/06/2024 19:22

At the risk of having to turn in my Heat Hater badge and having my subs returned, I didn't find today as bad as yesterday, which was humid and overcast. My rule of thumb is 'have I needed the fan on all day?' and today I haven't.

MadisonAvenue · 25/06/2024 22:40

I can tolerate up to 20°, warmer than that makes me irritable and I get a headache which nothing will alleviate. I also get a sun allergy rash on my arms and chest if I don’t cover up when I go out in warm sun.

GettingAwayFromYou · 25/06/2024 22:49

I really struggle in the heat because I'm autistic. I've become suicidal every Summer that I can remember, and am medicated up to my eyeballs now, but I already feel myself really sinking into a dark place today. Even though I know it's coming, I can never seem to prepare myself for feeling suicidal or convince myself that I can survive it like I have before.

I hope we have a full day of rain soon. It feels like the only peace we get these days.

Ponderingwindow · 25/06/2024 22:53

Do I love the sun? No, I hate it. I burn and it gives me a headache.

do I love the heat? No. Hate it as well. It makes me feel awful. It’s over 40 degrees where I live today and the humidity is so dense that it is hard to breathe. I was actually afraid I was going to have problems just bringing groceries in from the car, but thankfully DH came out and helped.

DappledThings · 26/06/2024 07:46

I've woken up today to overcast sky and cool temperatures as opposed to the full sun all day and already 19 that the forecast is still saying. Might still burn off but I'm enjoying it for now

Begonias · 26/06/2024 08:01

It's 17 degrees and cloudy with a lovely breeze although the weather app suggests it will reach highs of 25.
I hate summer, it causes problems with an autoimmune condition I have. I had to leave work early yesterday as I felt so ill and in bed today with high dose of steroids and praying for rain.

Yeah, it's already burnt off and is roasting. 🥲

Must be that here too. DD(6) is still thrashing around shouting at me that she's too hot to sleep. It sucks.

The windows should only be open when it's cooler outside than in

The blinds need closing during the day

It is marginally cooler much further north - that always give me great pleasure to know it's 2 to 5 degrees cooler then where we used to live - we are forecast 22 today

Can't fix your neighbours

This my blinds are closed and windows stay shut as soon as temperature tips to same as outside it's so much cooler inside then.
Theory behind it is Heat moves to colder air.
Opening loft hatch helps too as heat rises.

GalacticalFarce · 26/06/2024 21:10

Do you all have fans?
I couldn't survive without my fan. It's on constantly but it's helping things to be bearable?
At this time, it's cooler so the fan by the window really helps to cool the room down.

Girlputyourrecordson · 26/06/2024 21:10

Today was not nice in my office. I have no air con (and no heating 😩). I'm not fond of summer or the depths of winter as a result.

It's OK now though. Little bit of a breeze.

My goodness where do you live?

Today was 29C where I am and I was very grumpy about it.

But in the 50s is next level

LuckysDadsHat · 26/06/2024 21:48

Today I have been in a right grump. The heat has got to me, I'm dripping in sweat constantly (thanks peri!), the air con in the car has broken and there is no relief from the bloody heat. I have a fan on in January (again thanks peri) so this is killing me. I would prefer sunny and 19 or 20. Not 29 like it was here today.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 27/06/2024 09:36

Lovely fresh breeze this morning (SW London) and 24 degrees. I can deal with that.

Arraminta · 27/06/2024 12:38

Signing in. I hate everything about the hot weather. I cannot keep any make up because my face gushes sweat the second the temp goes above 21 degrees. My hair goes both fluffy and frizzy at the same time, how is that even possible? My fingers swell as do my feet. Despite taking two showers a day I still feel sticky and grubby. And I'm sick to death of explaining why I dislike the Summer so much.

Normallynumb · 27/06/2024 13:31

Thank god, the temperature has dropped here in Wiltshire to 19 and breezy.
I'm so much more comfortable

Much as I'd like Wiltshire's 19, I'm happy with the freshness and gentle warmth of 24 today rather than the hell that was yesterday's "feels like 33". And not a breath of wind whereas there's currently a soft breeze.

What a difference a day makes!

Cattery · 27/06/2024 13:57

Lovely breeze today 😀
