Heat haters unite

Do I love the sun to shine? yes
Do I like it when it's hot? No

This is a thread for anyone who doesn't like the heat. We can moan to our hearts content 😁

I feel guilty more than anything because I live near the coast and that equates to people telling me that I should be at the beach my every waking moment.

If you enjoy, please do! I'm happy for you 😁

Solidarity.
This is too much for me already. And I'm on the breezy east coast.

Great for getting the washing dry but not great for much else. Have to constantly watch the cat food bowls and he can’t have wet food because of poxy flies. I don’t want the sun in my eyes. Now I’ve gotta search through my wardrobe for more “summery” trousers so I don’t look like a weirdo in my usual trackies when I go to Tesco. Roll on the rain I say x

We've put fyscreens on. Highly recommend!

malachitegreen · 25/06/2024 10:06

I hate it too! I am thinking back to the nice cool of last week with nostalgia

Abracadabra12345 · 25/06/2024 10:13

How, where and how much?

Our bedrooms at the front of the house get the sun all afternoon and evening so are horrible at night though our new shutters plus black out curtains are a big help

We're in the London / SE area too so are always stuck with the highest and most prolonged temperatures but no chance of moving. I'm currently not that far away on the coast and it's 5 degrees cooler and is lovely!

Thank you for starting this thread OP and making it clear that it IS for hate heaters so those who aren't can scroll on by

Hedgesfullofbirds · 25/06/2024 10:15

Yup! 20 is plenty! I work in a physical, manual outdoor occupation and it is miserable at anything over 20 degrees. Fortunately my house is thatched and has stone floors so is cool and welcoming when I get home. But goodnesd, do we need some decent rain desperately too! I am on heavy clay soil and my garden is struggling already. Can't wait for a few days of refreshing, life giving liquid from nature's watering can and that wonderful aroma of petrichor!

whosaidtha · 25/06/2024 10:20

I feel bad because I've been begging for some sunshine. Lack of sun really affects my mood and I have low vitamin D so I'm on supplements. But now I'm going to have to start complaining about the heat. 20 and sunny is perfect. Anything over 24 is too much. My house already feels stifling.

afaloren · 25/06/2024 10:21

I love this thread every year! I hate it when it’s hot. I’m autistic (I don’t know if this has anything to do with it) and hate how uncomfortable heat and sunshine make me feel. I long for autumn. My husband on the other hand is delighted!

FloofyBird · 25/06/2024 10:42

I struggle in hot weather. I think it's a mix of being pale, autistic (i don't feel the cold so much but i feel the heat very easily) and I'm on a ssri which doesn't help and I get nice and red and sweaty to boost 🙄

Upstairs is stifling (26 already), downstairs is luckily cool (22.7), windows shut which should keep out the heat but I'm not convinced if helps that much. Thinking of making black out 'net' curtains as I find all the sun just leaks in around the black out curtains (which are currently tucked on the windowsill to try and avoid that).

Flopsythebunny · 25/06/2024 11:01

I detest the heat. 18° is hot enough for me. I during winter I never put the heating on above 18 either.
I have a portable air con unit in my bedroom which is brilliant

tortiecat · 25/06/2024 11:02

It appears I have found my people 😍
The house is a furnace, nobody slept last night, I'm sweaty, sweary and miserable hobbling about on swollen feet. Roll on for sensible temperatures on Thursday please.

Uricon2 · 25/06/2024 11:05

"20 is plenty!" We could adopt that as our motto @Hedgesfullofbirds !TY for the thread @SoSobored

I'm in the East away from the coast. The last few summers have been a misery and I'm dreading this going on until possibly September. It isn't the sun, it's the humidity and the fact that it doesn't even cool down in the evenings.

Sick of looking and feeling like a just boiled lobster. Always been like this, I'm the anomaly in a family of sunworshippers, who I wish would club together and send me to a nice ice flow for a couple of months!

ETA as well as the swollen feet (sympathy @tortiecat ) the heat makes my bones ache, I'm sure it does.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 25/06/2024 11:06

I’m here. Dreading today and tomorrow, roll on Thursday.

GalacticalFarce · 25/06/2024 11:08

I would love a constant 21c in the summer. Anything more and it's too hot for me.
We have fans in every room so sleeping isn't too bad at the moment but fans don't really deal with very hot weather.
I love the beach but no thanks to getting burned in the blistering sun. I prefer the beach on a warm cloudy day.
Forests are much better for hot days.

My friend taught me to open curtains, windows and doors early morning to let the 'cool' in then shut everything as soon Asti starts to get warmer. Keeps the house cooler all day.
Open again in the evening.

MoonWoman69 · 25/06/2024 11:13

I have a cat Spooky and her two kittens, Suki and Sabre, that are nearly 10 weeks old... For the past 7 weeks, Spooky hasn't been allowed out, due to her being in constant heat and us having to wait for the kittens to wean before she could be neutered! I'm used to having my back door open all day long, but in this heat it being closed along with the windows on vent only, is unbearable! My little JML fan has been a Godsend! If they all go upstairs together, I shut the room door and open the back one, but then I feel guilty! Last vet check tomorrow and Spooky can be out again, fully neutered, yay! Hubby is in the process of building a door screen to stop the kits going out until they're old enough, vaccinated, neutered etc. But at least I can have the top windows open at last!
Going out for fish and chips tonight on the motorbike, top up my fresh air levels and cool me down! I can cope for another day!
Rant over, as you were!!! 😁

SK1973 · 25/06/2024 11:22

I hate it but I hate the freezing temperatures also. I just cannot tolerate extremes of weather.

Last week week when it was around 17 it was perfect for me, t shirt and leggings weather and I’m more than comfortable.

Today it’s so hot and it always flares my IBS. I’ve had an upset tummy already and feel so queasy. The heat also makes me feel very panicky for some reason.

I’m also in peri which doesn’t help.

*Uricon2 *
I’m in the East also and it’s unbearably muggy. We were on the South coast until yesterday and it was so much fresher, back in Essex and it’s horrible.

TealSapphire · 25/06/2024 11:28

I used to absolutely love summer (in Australia) but the last one nearly finished me off. No air con as it died ($4,300 for a new unit that I couldn't afford. Even then it's not great at all in the humidity but made summer survivable).

Many weeks of 34-41 degrees and often it being as hot or hotter inside than outside. If I can't get the bloody thing fixed this summer then I don't know what I'll do 😭

At the moment it's winter 13-18 degrees and everyone is complaining about the cold - except me!

CassandraWebb · 25/06/2024 11:34

I love the heat ... Or rather did ...but I have a condition that worsens in the heat and means all my muscles go weak and my face literally looks like it has melted when I get too warm. It's a day for avoiding video calls at work I think!

viccat · 25/06/2024 11:37

I have an autoimmune condition that causes heat intolerance - basically makes it feel even hotter than it is. Feeling awful today. 😖

LittleLegsKeepGoing · 25/06/2024 11:50

I loath the heat.

I'm basically going to be irritable and annoyed until the temperature drops below 20 consistently now. Honestly if I was seriously wealthy I'd chase autumn/winter around the world in a perpetual avoidance of summer!

spiderlight · 25/06/2024 11:59

Signing in, in a foul mood and with the start of a migraine.

NotAgain1963 · 25/06/2024 12:00

I went out at 9am today and couldn't believe how hot it was already. Anything above 25 degrees and I start to feel ill. I was loved it for the last few weeks when it was struggling to get above 19 in the day time. It would suit me fine if it never got any hotter than that all summer. But hey,I'm a kill joy because I don't LOVE the hot weather. According to the majority of people anyway. The media doesn't help either, with their descriptions of 'basking','enjoying',and 'sizzling',and acting like it's the end of the world because the summer has been cool so far. Hot weather can fuck off as far as I'm concerned. I can't see anything positive about it. I'm hot, sticky, sweaty and uncomfortable. I can't sleep at night,my flat is like a bloody oven and as for my poor cat,I worry about her so much in this heat.

I think being autistic does have something to do with it. My 17 year old GD is autistic and she says this heat makes her feel panicky and anxious.

shams05 · 25/06/2024 12:06

Anything over 18 is too much for me, once it hits 21 and the sun's out I can't really enjoy the outdoors as in the last few years I've developed some sort of sun allergy. My skin blisters straight away then becomes itchy and unbearable. I'm having to wear cotton gloves whilst driving but even that doesn't help massively

NotAgain1963 · 25/06/2024 12:06

Yay! Just looked at my weather app and it says it's going to be 21 on Friday. 😃

shams05 · 25/06/2024 12:07

Weather app is showing 27 tomorrow but then 16/17 for Thursday, phew!
