Heat haters unite

Do I love the sun to shine? yes
Do I like it when it's hot? No

This is a thread for anyone who doesn't like the heat. We can moan to our hearts content 😁

I feel guilty more than anything because I live near the coast and that equates to people telling me that I should be at the beach my every waking moment.

If you enjoy, please do! I'm happy for you 😁

I hate it. I sleep with so many fans on. I really struggle with the heat normally but when it is really hot it is hell. I am fine abroad when I have a pool I can dip in and out of and don’t have to wear work clothes but every day life with it too hot is not fun.

Diversion · 25/06/2024 12:10

I'm quite happy with 18C, the heat makes me grumpy and cant have the windows open at night as we live on a main road. Supposed to be even hotter here tomorrow than it was yesterday - do not like!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 25/06/2024 12:13

The media doesn't help either, with their descriptions of 'basking','enjoying',and 'sizzling',and acting like it's the end of the world because the summer has been cool so far

And the sad faces when it's forecast to rain. They'd be even sadder if we didn't get rain for months.

can i ask how much this costs, air con in the living room? I'm tempted unless it's gazillions

We have portable units that do 20 something sq m and they were £299. They vent through any window, so we have them in our home offices in the day, the lounge in the evening if needed and then the bedrooms overnight when it's those few days when the heat just doesn't drop overnight.

NightOwlEarlyBird · 25/06/2024 12:15

I love the heat, but it's not much fun now that I have a dog! He has a black coat and really feels the heat, so when it's like this I have to take him for his long walk at the crack of dawn rather than midday. I far prefer cooler weather now, so that we can walk for ages in the afternoon when it's more convenient for me.

HonorHaymaker · 25/06/2024 12:17

Lol - not seen the sun here for days and been 19 tops!! When they do the weather forecast we get completely ignored.

Bring on the sunshine 🌞

Allthehorsesintheworld · 25/06/2024 12:20

Fibromyalgia has destroyed my enjoyment of hot weather. How the hell did I live - and work- in the Middle East and Africa, in buildings with no a/c yet now 23C and I’m sat inside by a fan, aching all over. ☹️

downwithmaterialistdogma · 25/06/2024 12:29

We're sleeping outside in the garden at the moment. It's really nice and cool overnight and I awake to crows screeching peaceful birdsong. I really struggle in the heat and am heat intolerant to anything much above 16C. I sweat so much from my head and face and can't go out when I'm like that 😢 I'm just kicking my heels and waiting around for cooler days.

spiderlight · 25/06/2024 12:43

I've had to give our dog the most godawful home haircut. She'd just grown the most glorious fluffy cloud-soft coat (after being rescued and spayed at the end of last year, when she was skin and bone with barely any coat at all), but it's all had to come off and our mobile groomer isn't available at the moment so I had to take the clippers to her myself. She's so much happier but she looks as if I've done it with a combine harvester.

Have you tried running the cold tap over your wrists, where the veins are near the surface? Does work to cool you down quite quickly.

Fill a couple of small plastic water bottles, freeze them and use them as rollers to cool your feet down.

If you have a hot water bottle fill that, put it in the fridge and use at night to cool down. I can guarantee that one, I used it in our 40 degree summer.

Everyone brings this one out and I find it does nothing of the sort, apart from cool the wrist.

Mumoftwo1316 · 25/06/2024 13:16

I've just cooked a lunch with lots of garlic and chillies and it's cooled me right down. Seems counter intuitive but that's how they do it in hot countries. It opens the pores or something.

It helps that we've come home from the park and are sheltering in our cold cave of a house!

Get a ceiling fan over your bed. They are fantastic!

Yeah I'm in .
Really struggling due to a medical condition. My hair and scalp are dripping .
So glad I'm retired wouldn't have been able to cope with the heat in a ward area.

Yes,you can guarantee that they'd be the first ones to complain when there's a drought because there's been no rain for weeks on end! These are the same people who say 'Why are they saying there's still a drought?' when it rains for 5 minutes for the first time in a month.

Normallynumb · 25/06/2024 15:19

I find anything over 23 makes me feel dizzy and nauseous
I have CP and my muscles are more painful and joints swell
It's a real effort to go out and here the evenings have been the same temperatures as during the day

Abracadabra12345 · 25/06/2024 15:26

@marshmallowfinder

Tell me about your ceiling fan! How noisy is it and was it easy to fit?

Wendysfriend · 25/06/2024 15:36

I'm in Ireland, the weather has been pretty rubbish. We had just over a week of nice weather this month, we were actually able to go out without jumpers. Today it's lashing but quite warm, I like sunshine but this is grey clouds and a dead heat, I need a good fan. Have tried so many but they're all rubbish.

I think cooling the back of the neck is more effective. I got some of those silky cloth things but found them less effective than a wrung out tea towel that's been in the freezer for a few minutes.

This is predicated on being at home of course, unless you work in a boxing gym!

toycat · 25/06/2024 15:39

I've had the fan on overnight since winter, so am struggling now!!

DaffydownClock · 25/06/2024 15:55

The medication I take means that my body struggles to cope with hot weather. When I was younger it never bothered me at all but now anything over 20-22° and I start feeling really unwell.
So long as I stay indoors and do little I can manage but it’s a case of hoping that the weather cools down very soon 😊

socks1107 · 25/06/2024 17:18

I'm on my commute home and left an hour early to avoid the crowded tube and get a quieter train.
The tube was fine but the train is awful, I'm recovering from food poisoning and feel as though I'm about to throw up again. Modern technology and we can't provide aircon on trains?

terrifyingtoes · 25/06/2024 17:47

Aw solidarity with all those hassled by heat. Sipping a cool cocktail in the shade with a cool breeze - lovely. Everyday usual London living over 22c - grim.
Sweaty, swollen, irritable - our bodies respond with typical signs of stress - heart racing, dizzy & faint.
I get so fed up feeling like we can’t complain despite the fact it’s clearly dangerous.
