Heat haters unite

Do I love the sun to shine? yes
Do I like it when it's hot? No

This is a thread for anyone who doesn't like the heat. We can moan to our hearts content 😁

I feel guilty more than anything because I live near the coast and that equates to people telling me that I should be at the beach my every waking moment.

If you enjoy, please do! I'm happy for you 😁

As a menopausal maniac,I hate it, it makes me sweaty… sorry… even more sweaty which makes me uncomfortable and panicky.
I work with the glorious general public who seem to freak out if the air-con is on, so we have to work in the stuffiest, clammiest place. Why would you want to eat next to windows with sun blazing in, and literally NO fresh air whatsoever (there is also widespread fear if the windows are opened an inch)

I hate my house holding the heat til the evening so as you go up,to bed, it’s like an oven, hate the bugs, hate the sweaty nights, hate other peoples clammy bare flesh next to me, the sight of men’s feet 😱 my horrid works uniform, the car that you could fry food in, the stench of BBQs 🤮 hate the fact you can’t cuddle the poor panting dog - or my poor panting DP

So, yeah, I hate it!!

Mumoftwo1316 · 27/06/2024 14:44

the sight of men’s feet

This made me chuckle. Let's hope they've put sunblock on.

Yes to enjoying the breezy day! It's actually quite nice indoors with the windows open (on the north facing side!)

LuckysDadsHat · 27/06/2024 14:51

It's not that breezy on the south coast and still 26 here. I'm still sweating and a miserable cow today.

Uricon2 · 27/06/2024 14:54

It's still pretty oppressive here in the East but there might be a semblance of a breeze getting up, hope so. Glad for everyone who is finding it a bit cooler.

Latest on my Why I Hate Summer list; bites. Something/s got through my defences last night and I have the first itchy, miserable crop of the year, all in places hard to daub with the usual ineffective treatments. I should hire myself out as Midge Protection, as noone will ever be affected if they stay close to me.😂

Mumoftwo1316 · 27/06/2024 15:01

My dh hates insect bites so much that, if he had his way, he'd never open a single window from April till October.

Whereas I love fresh air. I'd rather get bitten but breathe real air.

He's working in the office today and I have every window in the house open! I can feel the breeze going right through the house, it's so glorious. I feel like I've finally stopped sweating for the first time all week.

Lots of buzzing insects in every room though.

Uricon2 · 27/06/2024 15:16

He wouldn't necessarily be safe then though @Mumoftwo1316 I've actually been bitten in late November/early December. Perhaps don't tell him though or you'll never get the windows open and I'm with you on that!

ETA having tried everything as I'm sure he has, the Puressential roller ball thingy is less ineffective than most. It doesn't seem to be on Amazon at the mo but they have it on their site.

Love the look of the sunshine but can't cope in it. Shade, hat, fans in house, iced water.

CMOTDibbler · 27/06/2024 15:39

I don't mind the heat as much as the sun. I've always burnt very easily but that was manageable. Now I have developed a condition where sunlight makes me bleed into my skin so I have to completely cover up head to foot in UV proof clothing (wafty linen or cotton isn't enough protection) and lovely zinc sunblock on my face. Am contemplating becoming a full on goth with a hat and face veil as at least that has a style aesthetic

Uricon2 · 27/06/2024 15:43

That sounds really hard @CMOTDibbler

Why don't you have magnetic insect nets at the windows? They work very well and you can have plenty of fresh air.

Tumbleweed101 · 27/06/2024 18:32

I love it between about 20-25C when I have to work but don't mind it higher if I'm able to laze about in the garden or on the beach. The 35-40C we had a few years back was too much though!

At the moment it is lovely and a nice change to cloud and rain we've had since Nov last year here.

Thanks! I looked into them but the shape of our window frames meant they wouldn't fit (part of the windows open inwards)!

I'm going for fresh air plus bugs lol

Slight resurgence this evening. It seems to be building again.😩

Mumoftwo1316 · 28/06/2024 19:17

The forecast is for a low of 11C overnight where I am in South London. I'll believe it when I see it!

Yes, a good bit better with a breeze earlier and now back to being steamed ironed. My husband spent much of his childhood in hot climates and is not quite as sympathetic as would possibly be desirable. He has been informed of this .

I've also told him dinner will be 8.30 not 8 as it may have marginally improved by then. Revenge of the Heat Hater!

Yellowbananasarebetterthangreen · 28/06/2024 19:33

Im another heat hater. I love a warm sunny day with a breeze but hot hot hot is awful. I hate feeling sweaty. I hate feeling lethargic. I hate that even in the shade the heat makes me feel ill - if Im in the sun I feel even more ill. Just ugh.
And thats in the daytime........ then theres the impossible to sleep at night problem.

It was a beautiful sunny (but not horribly hot) day here today 20c. I arrived at work and one of my colleagues said "Oh dear, its cold today isnt it and the sun isnt shining" when Id literally being dodging the sun and finding shade as much as I could on my walk to work.

And two of my team put on coats when they went out for lunch - Coats! I walked to work today in a t shirt, summer floaty skirt and sandals......... nothing extra and yet they put coats on over a jumper and shirt at lunchtime!!!
