Anyone else think there might be something strange about the 19yr old disappearance in Tenerife?

I get that kids do foolish things, like travelling at night with 2 strangers.

But if he was seen at the new accommodation around 8am, and again walking briskly along the road some time “later”, how could he have needed to make a call at 8.30am saying he was lost, had no phone charge and needed water? He would have only just left the accommodation so definitely wouldn’t need water. And why not send your gps or what three words location then?

Exactly it first beat a 10k target and what happens when/if it beats that 30k target, what's next... 35k, 40k, more??

Edited

I think at 30K, he'll miraculously reappear. Or body will be found

That’s just what people have chosen to donate though, they couldn’t have guaranteed they’d get a certain amount.

That’s what they asked for though. Three grand would have covered flights and a couple of weeks accommodation for his mum. They asked for 30k straight up and some of his awful family asked airlines to charter free flights and stuff.

He seems too dim to be a drugs mule but maybe I’m wrong (not that drugs mules tend to be particularly smart). Nothing would surprise me with this.

I think that's the issue, that he was allegedly on his first job and screwed it up.

There's a screenshot going round of this dm interaction between Lucy's confirmed instagram account (lu.cymaenew) and another account, in it she provides a screenshot of an outgoing call (2mins) to Jay Slater- which means that she called him thus directly contradicting what she's consistently said on national TV and to the press.

The other Instagram account in the DM does call her out on this

The target is set at £30,000, at this moment in time £26,665 has been raised so they aren’t even at their target yet. Why didn’t they set a lower target?

Beezknees · 22/06/2024 13:34

Doubt it.

Everyone becomes armchair detectives, it was the same with poor Nicola Bulley and there was a straightforward explanation.

The lad has likely just been hungover and dehydrated and got lost, passed out. Sad as it is.

The dodgy people he spent time with are taking advantage of it with the fundraiser and trying to score a quick buck.

WetherspoonsSnob · 22/06/2024 13:35

To be honestly, I think it's absolutely beyond patronising, parochial and slightly xenophobic- how people are treating the Spanish Police (Guardia Civil- a Gendarmerie force) and acting as if they're inherently inferior to British cops (Lancashire Constabulary).

Referring to Jay's mum's comments about her "shouting and screaming day when I had the meeting with the Police" in an interview with MailOnline and comments across Facebook in general.

They did, they originally set a lower target of 10k but that was reached and they've since tripled that OG target for some reason to 30k.

Including his mum listed as a beneficiary??

Yes if there were loads of conspiracy theories going round that Jay never in fact called her and she was the one who called his phone would it not be sensible to provide evidence from the call log of his incoming call, a simple screenshot. As far as I have seen despite several requests she has not provided this (when the family fb page was until recently v chatty and communicative I would have thought they'd immediately clear this up).

Chenecinquantecinq · 22/06/2024 13:44

One thing that seems a massive coincidence (or maybe it's just me) is the fact that the only witness to see Jay in the Airbnb hamlet at the bus stop and walking off was the woman who owns the apartment he went back to with the two men. Is that not a massive coincidence? I assume she doesn't live in the AirBNB at the same time she rents it and they were not due to check out that day either.

Yes. Lucy Mae saying they need the British police over here made me laugh - like they would know how to find someone in that area better than the local police!

To be fair to her, she did say it was due to the language barrier.

Except it wasn't a straightforward explanation, and a lot of villagers do not believe that's what actually happened to her.

"Doubt it" isn't really a decent argument against

But that’s the issue why, why do they need £30k, leave it at £10k.

Not sure if it’s true but I read somewhere she lives next door, in which case it would make sense that she is around

Who else would be the beneficiary?! His next door neighbour? Old maths teacher?

Megifer · 22/06/2024 14:18

Should a MNer message the police to let them know theres a screenshot of call logs on insta? Or do we think those on the FB pages might have given the police the heads up already?

I bet the police haven't even thought to check her phone.

I'm trying to say in relation to the comment that I originally quoted a few posts ago, surely that would logically mean his mum is trying to score a quick buck.

But his mum said they didn't want a gofundme. Suddenly there's one at nearly 30k

Not on the clip we watched. She said it was so they could check the Spanish police were doing it right, basically. No mention of language in the interview we saw.

Here's 3 possibilities of why they need 30 grand on the spot...

  1. Tolerable food, £60 flights (ryanair, easyjet etc...) and budget hotel stays
  2. Out and out Karen Matthews-type scam.
  3. He's messed with the wrong people, Lucy-mae and his mum know about it and they need to pay them off FAST hence why the constant allusions to a kidnapping by mum Debbie.

If they were being blackmailed by kidnappers and needing to raise money, I don't think they'd keep talking about him being kidnapped! They wouldn't want to piss off whoever has him.
