Anyone else think there might be something strange about the 19yr old disappearance in Tenerife?

I get that kids do foolish things, like travelling at night with 2 strangers.

But if he was seen at the new accommodation around 8am, and again walking briskly along the road some time “later”, how could he have needed to make a call at 8.30am saying he was lost, had no phone charge and needed water? He would have only just left the accommodation so definitely wouldn’t need water. And why not send your gps or what three words location then?

The internet abounds with theories from Poundland Bergeracs on this one.

The lad has a dodgy past, there are drugs involved - supply thereof. He's made some people high up in the supply of said drugs very unhappy, and has now disappeared. This will probably end as these things usually do.

On the GoFundMe note, there are soo many crowdfunders in general that are successful scams or attempted scams that GFM seriously need to massively crack down on them.

For example, the seven fake ones (which have sweet fa to do with the slater family) which have already been mentioned by The Mirror.

It's not enough for fake crowdfunders to be taken down, the Police need to be involved as it's fraud and a deterrent needs to be made to deter/prevent other wannabee-fraudsters.

Otherwise the risk to reward ratio is wayy too low in my opinion.

People are probably very sick of violent little criminals, who think they can harm other people and then laugh about it.

Yeah well people are quick to dismiss. Maybe the boys are all psychopaths or maybe they were scared shitless and trying to act like big men who couldn't care less. Typical teenage bravado.
The fact is I've seen loads of ex-criminals who got in the wrong crowd when they were young and then turned their lives around. I can't understand people just writing off someone who's 19 and basically saying they hope he's pushing up the daisies.

Zone2NorthLondon · 22/06/2024 12:36

SallyWD · 22/06/2024 12:17

A lot of people are keen to say how they couldn't care less about him. He's a violent thug who takes drugs so supposedly deserves whatever's happened.
Fine, you're entitled to your opinions. However, in the case of very young people I like to give them the benefit of the doubt. He's basically still a kid, his brain isn't fully developed. Yes he was in a gang who attacked that man (also a criminal apparently) but Jay Slater got a lesser sentence compared to some of the others so presumably he wasn't the one who hacked into the skull with a machete.
Also if teenagers are behaving badly I don't like to dismiss them as "bad" but look at why they're behaving badly. Disfunctional families, violent upbringing, who knows?
At 19 there's every chance he could have turned his life around and grown up to be a decent man (equally, maybe he wouldn't have) but it seems that many people have completely written off a 19 year old kid and stated his life is pretty much worth nothing.

Absolutely agree
we have a legal system part of which is to sentence, and he was sentenced
I appreciable there are opinions was that sentence proportionate etc. We should scrutinise and hold legal system to account.
He is a young man who has no restrictions on his movement and has gone on holiday. Unfortunately he is missing. As a minimum he and his family need support
I am unsurprised at h the hes a bad un tone, I all the oh just googled him, he’s a criminal . Yes he is a criminal. We as a society accommodate and encourage rehabilitation and reintegration

Cattery · 22/06/2024 12:42

My DH worked in rehabilitation at a large jail. Let me tell you not many offenders were interested in “ turning their lives around”

Anyone contributing to the GFM is at best very naive I’m afraid. As others have said, flights to Tenerife are cheap as chips, and really only the mum and a supporter for her need to be there. I’m afraid I cannot waste too much sympathy on a violent thug. It’s a sad outcome if he’s died of course. Maybe he would have gone on to achieve great, philanthropic things. Maybe not. Maybe he’s coming down from a massive bender. None of us knows but I fail to see the need for £30K to be raised 🤷‍♀️

My thoughts exactly, AVB 👏

And as someone on Facebook said regarding the £30k target Go Fund Me... "Why does Jay's mum keep being taken off beneficiary then added its been 5 times or more now. It looks well dodgy. Think why people keep asking questions. Can we have clarification why this keeps happening please"

I think this is especially relevant too...

According to The Mirror, A Facebook group set up by the family called "Jay Slater Missing" says: "This is the only official "missing Jay Slater" Facebook group. Jay's mother DOES NOT want a GoFundMe set up so DO NOT donate to one!!"

For future reference: GFM currently stands at £26,525.

Feelsodrained · 22/06/2024 12:49

Well all the stops are being pulled out - there’s been six days of relentless searching by the Spanish authorities despite rude attitude from his friends and family who say stuff like that the police don’t even speak English. They’re doing this for a foreign national who is literally nobody to them.

ReadyTeddy1000 · 22/06/2024 12:49

I've just read a very detailed post on Facebook, which states, among other things, that the poster, Jay and Lucy are drug mules. Jay screwed up and they now owe 30K to their "boss" as a result. He is being held until they get the money to them.
Am I allowed to post the screenshots?

Christ no,please don’t post screen shot of theories

MightyDoctor · 22/06/2024 12:01

What is his background then? That keeps popping up.

I also just assumed that the go fund me was there to cover Mum's flights and accommodation, which is fair enough.

Am I being naive?!

I went to Tenerife with my friend, both of us just 18. She was staying out late.
I headed back to hotel, sat for 2 hours in the lobby worried SICK waiting for her.
Well somehow, she'd decided to go back, took a quicker route and was fast asleep in the room! I didn't think to check.

£30,000 is a lot for his mum to need for flights and accommodation, even taking into account unpaid time off work it’s a huge amount

Chenecinquantecinq · 22/06/2024 12:55

The amount requested is clearly more than is needed for flights/accommodation for extended friends/family etc. Either the money is owed and that's what it is being raised for or it's a scam. If they put we need this money to employ private search and rescue then that would make sense, but unless they're all planning on staying in the best hotel on the island then you have to wonder what the aim of raising the money is for. I know the theories are out of a movie but if you actually scratch the surface of this one then it's starting to look like one of the most movie like theories is the most likely scenario.

fancyfrogs · 22/06/2024 12:56

Why not though?

It was posted (not anonymously) by someone who claims he's also a drug mule with them. It's very very interesting, regardless.

I was looking at these yesterday. It’s really gone wild. I don’t know whether this is just people who are trolling due to the abhorrent attack he committed or whether there are genuine extra layer to this.

If I ignore all the posts and just look at the fact the mum keeps thinking he’s been taken - then that makes me think there is a potential extra layer.

The lucy situation is odd also. I do thinks it’s odd she rung the police so quickly. And the go fund me odd.

Much oddness.

I understand that, but... She has no control over who donates.

It's all a bit weird now to me, I hadn't heard anything about it.

Time will tell I guess.

Yeah I think the fact that the claims are very very detailed is a bit different from the usual armchair detective stuff

Why on earth would someone in that situation post openly on FB admitting it? If that was part of what was happening it would put them in an even worse situation plus would implicate the case as a whole.

I don't know why they would. Possibly because if they posted anon that people wouldn't believe it. No idea.

Exactly it first beat a 10k target and what happens when/if it beats that 30k target, what's next... 35k, 40k, more??

Chenecinquantecinq · 22/06/2024 13:03

Michael Mosley went off (medically trained) his wife was a GP in 45c+ heat no water to speak off and they hardly batted an eyelid about risk/folly of such a move and alarm raised 6 hours later. Young girl receives phone call from friend saying lost, battery low, thirsty and she immidiately calls police demanding helicopters etc without so much as a scoot around first for him (17C). If she was a nervy worrier do you not think she'd have worried earlier about him heading off with two randoms? You need to listen to her interview it's bizarre.

You forget some MNers only have a thimbleful of wine when out.

Funny that a lot of my mates, normal young people in their 20s from naice families, professionals too, regularly went clubbing with all that that entailed in London in 90s/00s. Compared to the vast majority of MNers.

Totally agree, the utter naivety of some posters astounds me, even in the OP not comprehending why he’s need water, its quite eye opening what a sheltered life some people have led.
