Anyone else think there might be something strange about the 19yr old disappearance in Tenerife?

I get that kids do foolish things, like travelling at night with 2 strangers.

But if he was seen at the new accommodation around 8am, and again walking briskly along the road some time “later”, how could he have needed to make a call at 8.30am saying he was lost, had no phone charge and needed water? He would have only just left the accommodation so definitely wouldn’t need water. And why not send your gps or what three words location then?

Whether it's him watching the Euros or not, either scenario is bonkers 🫣

  1. It is him, and he's casually sitting around in a pub watching football in a public place. He does know he's "missing", as people have been trying to phone him and he was due to be home by now, apparently. (Even if he hadn't seen any publicity about it all).
  2. It isn't him, as he's missing, but of the "many" witnesses who saw him, it seems that not one of them took a photo or surreptitiously alerted the police at the time?

All very odd indeed.

About these sightings of him watching the Euros - I think Jay Slater has quite a generic face. I know a few young lads who look like him. I think it's quite likely that people might think they saw him when it was someone who looked similar.

Yeah I thought this. There's probably a shit ton of sunburned young lads getting pissed up in Tenerife and watching the Euros right now.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 26/06/2024 19:42

I imagine the dogs that have been flown from Madrid are cadaver dogs. If there’s a body on that mountain trained dogs will find it. Not a nice thought but at least his family will know what happened.

Fair few refunds today from the GFM, at least £600 worth.

And nobody has thought to walk up to this bloke sitting in a bar and said “hey, are you that missing lad Jay Slater”? Then he could either say “yes” and the mystery would be solved, or “nope, I’m Chris Smith from Middlesbrough” and the speculation could cease.

It's gone beyond bonkers. Extract from interview (admittedly the Daily Mail) from the mayor who now says it's locals saying others have said they saw him watching the football but bar, date and time unknown! To go public with these tales with not even hearing about the supposed sightings first hand must be distracting for the police and cruel really if it's given false hope he's ok.

"Emilio Jose Navarro Castanedo gave an interview saying he had spoken to locals who said they had 'seen him watching the Euros on the coast.' Mr Navarro Castanedo said he didn't know which bars locals had seen the man in or what time or date. Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Mr Navarro Castanedo said: 'There has been a lot of fake news and misunderstanding of what I said.
'To be clear, I did not say I saw him watching football, locals have told me that they have heard from others that they saw someone looking like the boy in a bar at Los Gigantes further along the coast."

Saschka · 26/06/2024 21:43

locals have told me that they have heard from others that they saw someone looking like the boy in a bar at Los Gigantes further along the coast.

This has to be the biggest case of “my friend’s mum’s hairdresser knows somebody whose dad’s friend’s cousin told him…. So it must be true!”

ReadyTeddy1000 · 26/06/2024 21:53

It's mind-blowing to have put all this out in public without knowing any actual details.

MWT did a press conference and mentioned trying to identify the 2 blokes who were renting the airbnb.
Do the Spanish police not know who they are? Or are they refusing to tell him who they are (rightly so, BTW, I'm not saying they should tell him)?
It seems weird if nobody knows who they are.

Could they be even more significant in this? Their flight left straight after Jay went missing.

Didn't the press report that the two men stayed an extra day to talk to police but don't want to be named? Can't say I blame them! Kudos to Tenerife police for not caving to wat must be considerable pressure from our media to name them.

Yeah they stayed another day and the police have their passport details. There is no mystery as to who they are. Jay was seen and heard off after he left their house so there’s no real reason they should be dragged into it.

Tabloids like the Daily Mail would’ve have had a field day with the two “Black British men” if they disclose their details so yeah I agree - kudos to the police. It won’t help them find Jay any quicker if their details are shared.

The drug takers say disappearing with a new friend isn't abnormal cos when you're off your face everyone is your friend. Its still suss to disappear with men though, 1 a lot older. What went on in that property. Do we know for a fact he called Lucy in the morning or do we just have her word for it?

Never taken drugs but used to go clubbing, it wasn’t unusual in my late teens for people to go off with “new friends” be it same sex or opposite sex. It would be a large after party often but sometimes it would be just a small gathering they’d been invited to. I was 17 when I first started going clubbing. Some people were 30 and over and we all socialised together in the club scene.

I wouldn’t disappear myself, but I did end up at some random after parties with some friends. I know some more extroverted girls would think nothing of going off by themselves though and definitely guys since they often (wrongly perhaps) have less safety concerns.

maybe Jay didn’t realise they were as old as 40 as well. Could easily have mistaken them for a decade or so younger. I often didn’t know peoples ages immediately when I was younger.

ReadyTeddy1000 · 26/06/2024 23:29

Sorry it's from the Scum, but this article explains MWT's comments re the 2 men. It seems from this article that the British police have no intention of speaking with the 2 men, and it also seems that the family don't know who they are by name. So MWT is asking them to come forward so he can question them, and if they dont come forward he'll release a photo of them (or one of them) 😳

Don't know how they think they know, but anyone who makes a donation via GFM can request a refund. It doesn't indicate that the fundraiser has done anything wrong.

GrandTheftWalrus · 27/06/2024 00:48

I doubt he's gonna be found at all. Maybe in a few years unfortunately.

Somebody else has answered the latter question so I'll answer the former...

GFM was on £35,690 and when I refreshed the page, it was barely above £36,000.

I made a big typo sorry, yuge.

ReadyTeddy1000 · 27/06/2024 10:41

Jay's mum has updated to say they've withdrawn some of the money to pay for friends/family to fly over.
Edited to add - and food/living expenses

Olidorjo · 27/06/2024 11:01

Am guessing the family are needing money to cover expenses etc

WetherspoonsSnob · 27/06/2024 11:07

Forget the ex-Detective Constable with only 9 months experience putting his oar in, an ex-CIA operations officer with experience of dealing with kidnaps/abductions has added something to the "words of support" section on the GFM.

Jokes aside, I don't think having the words "I will kill you" in your WoS is the wisest possible idea- regardless if its part of a famous movie quote or not.

Imagine, if Debbie isn't at all familiar with the movie quote and sees that... 👀

(I've got to admit, the quote did make me chuckle though)
