Anyone else think there might be something strange about the 19yr old disappearance in Tenerife?

I get that kids do foolish things, like travelling at night with 2 strangers.

But if he was seen at the new accommodation around 8am, and again walking briskly along the road some time “later”, how could he have needed to make a call at 8.30am saying he was lost, had no phone charge and needed water? He would have only just left the accommodation so definitely wouldn’t need water. And why not send your gps or what three words location then?

But it could have been anyone who phoned her from his phone. His phone was there, and they'llhave checked if there was a call, but that doesn't mean Jay was there or made the call. I think the point is that a lot is being placed on Lucy's "recollection of events"

I can’t even begin to understand the level posters are going to on this, it really is like Nicola Bulley all over again.

Don't be so utterly ridiculous! That's literally how investigations work.

They can place the phone at those places but not him specifically, based on just that info.

How long before tattle/facebook trolling ends? No developments whatsoever really.

Garlicker · 25/06/2024 20:26

While the police were looking for Jay, they found another struggling Brit in the ravine!

"“Local residents saw how the hiker went into an area of difficult access which was not suitable for transit early in the morning and had yet to return to his starting point several hours later.

“They alerted officers who were at that moment involved in the search for young Jay Slater. He was found tired and disorientated by the officers and the rescue team who helped him out of the gorge.”

Cops hunting Jay Slater find a missing Brit who was 'disoriented' in same area

A spokesman for local police employed by the Buenavista del Norte town hall, the municipality which the village of Masca in north-west Tenerife confirmed that another Brit was found there

Interesting development @Garlicker
what is happening this summer with the British tourists getting lost and disorientated?

Re. His last call - did Jay not speak to his friend on the phone? From what I understand they know it was him who made the call, as his mate Lucy heard his voice down the phone.

Garlicker · 26/06/2024 01:56

Yes, I think some PPs are suggesting a call was made from Jay's phone to Lucy's - the one where he said he was lost, cut and thirsty - but it wasn't really Jay who called and Lucy's lying about what was said.

Me, I'm going with spaced-out teenager makes ridiculous decision to hike unfamiliar mountain path, falls, is dead. I mean, I'd rather the story were more mysteriously complicated and he turned out to be alive somewhere. But the simplest scenario's the most likely.

ReadyTeddy1000 · 26/06/2024 06:26

Yes, hopefully it isn't something more sinister. But when the only witness/last person to hear from him is extremely dodgy, then it makes things much trickier.
Although if it is something more sinister, then there's probably more likelihood of him still being alive somewhere.

There was an article in DM yesterday where he said he hiked there regularly and knew the trails, had all the equipment he needed and didn't actually need rescuing. He said it was probably miscommunication due to language barrier

ReadyTeddy1000 · 26/06/2024 08:51

There are now stories coming out that "a number of people" saw him in a different town in Tenerife watching the Euros. 🤔
Doesn't sound likely, BUT interestingly it's being repeated by the mayor, who happens to also be the owner of the Airbnb where he was last seen.

I’m not sure I understand, posters on mumsnet are not investigating?

Eh? Where did I say they were? You can see the comments I was responding to. Not sure what's unclear?

People on mumsnet are discussing aspects of the case, which they are more than entitled to do. Police are investigating the case, and are hopefully not taking everything at face value, given it's been a week. Doesn't mean there is something dodgy going on, just means all angles are being looked at.

Seen that, seems suspect that nobody would take a photo of him if they saw him, especially if they’ve reporting it to the police?

Jay's friends have come to Tenerife...

Chenecinquantecinq · 26/06/2024 11:20

They should be using/fundraising for more private experts like Downtherapids to search. The guy’s literally scrambling across the rocks (as he’s experienced enough to do). I would imagine the only other people doing this are the handful of mountain rescuers. The police there won’t be allowed due to H&S I’d imagine. The new theory he’d headed in direction of the beach seems plausible. That’s where they’re focusing now.

Mark Williams-Thomas is now in tenerife and has spoken to Jay's family and friends.

Bit o' context on MWT:

  1. Investigated, prosecuted for threatening to publish claims about mass-burial unless a funeral director paid him to supress the story but acquitted at trial.
  2. Driving force behind disastrous Cliff Richard paedo raid,
  3. Excoriated by the judge in the collapsed third trial of a paedophile for offering to sell the names, addresses and statements of his victims to journos asking for a fee that was "consumerate with the significant risk"- Surrey Police's Anti-Corruption unit only found out in 2014.
  4. Propaganda piece for PPE mega-fraudster Michelle Mone disguised as a investigative doc.
  5. Detective Constable for only 9 months, PC for other 11 years of his career.
  6. BBC approached 200 people for interview about Jimmy Saville and victims for a documentary, filmed 50, only one of whole 200 asked for payment- guess who that was... MWT.
  7. Supported the parole of Oscar Pistorius (https://x.com/mwilliamsthomas/status/1727233696451768604)

Mark Williams-Thomas regarding Nicola Bulley disappearance:

'When I spoke to the police early yesterday before lunch and I said to them: "Listen, I have information that something has gone on in the family... there have been emergency services called at the address, what are you going to do about it? Can you please confirm if that's true or not?"

'And as a result of that, they then in the early evening released information that there have been issues in Nicola's life.'

Yeah. I didn't comment on my thoughts either way. He's controversial for sure.

Altho, for a bit o' balance, he was also hugely involved in the fall of Savile and Jonathan King

WetherspoonsSnob · 26/06/2024 13:21

Regardless of whether that thing about Jay watching the Euros is true or not, I think that it's really wrong and inappropriate for a Mayor to release this information.

I doubt the Spanish Police are too happy either.

Blouson · 26/06/2024 13:26

Well it was a stupid thing to say wasnt it. Like the MM incident recently, the mayor there was spouting all sorts of unhelpful comments. Must be just a mayor thing.

The mayor on this island is not like the mayor in a major city, to be honest he’s just like any other dude and this is his first rodeo in this sort of thing snd won’t be media trained. Yes he shouldn’t have said anything , but he doesn’t have any form of position in this really.

I very much doubt anyone saw him, if they did, they’d have taken photos. Clearly they think he’s done a runner , hence why the mayor is spilling the tea.

I said previously too, the mayor owns the airbnb - so there's possibly also an element of him trying to deflect the attention away from him

And its bad publicity, same as the mayor in Symi. They dont want tourists thinking islands are dangerous places or riddled with drugs and crime.

SallyWD · 26/06/2024 16:18

About these sightings of him watching the Euros - I think Jay Slater has quite a generic face. I know a few young lads who look like him. I think it's quite likely that people might think they saw him when it was someone who looked similar.
