Anyone else think there might be something strange about the 19yr old disappearance in Tenerife?

I get that kids do foolish things, like travelling at night with 2 strangers.

But if he was seen at the new accommodation around 8am, and again walking briskly along the road some time “later”, how could he have needed to make a call at 8.30am saying he was lost, had no phone charge and needed water? He would have only just left the accommodation so definitely wouldn’t need water. And why not send your gps or what three words location then?

I would imagine sadly if he's not found within the next few days the Spanish police are going to give up. They can't keep searching for him indefinitely.

Yes they will i expect and he’ll then possibly be found randomly by someone in the future. A little boy fell in the river at Leicester in feb and there was a huge search by police with helicopters, dogs etc for several weeks but they never found him. Some council workers found him at random a few weeks ago. I don’t think searching for people is as easy as some people seem to think it is

Chenecinquantecinq · 25/06/2024 10:31

There’s a guy on Insta who’s I think experienced to some degree with the terrain, called Downtherapids. Doesn’t seem as though the search is winding down as they’ve flown dogs in from Madrid today. If he unfortunately got lost and died the amount of dogs they have working should be able to pick up a scent. A normal pet dog can smell a bitch on heat 3 miles away. That nature reserve is unforgiving terrain wise but it’s relatively small where trained dogs are concerned if he’s no longer alive.

I think if they where dodgy geezers giving him a lift who knows they could have robbed and buried him off side of road you would need sniffer dogs and the whole Country of people to find him, Did not the police check out these strangers giving h a lift and after dropping him off can they tell what speed he was traveling before he got lost so they could tell if he got picked up again or how far he got.

A lot of oddities. Especially re the urgency of reporting him missing, inconsistency in her story. I’m too old for Snapchat but apparently the two pics he posted had a geotag filter added? Seems a lot of detail for someone off their heads to bother with.

May still be the obvious simple misadventure but definitely some question marks.

the urgency of reporting him missing

If I ring a friend and report that I am lost, need water and my phone is about to cut out, I hope they would report me missing quickly not wait for several hours on the off chance I will turn up.

Geotag filters are trivial to add. A regular Snapchat user may do it pretty much automatically - swipe right on the preview of your photo or video and, if a geotag filter is available, tap on it.

I'm sure they have been checked out. Given the evidence available, it is highly unlikely he was murdered by the two people he went with. His last phone call was after he had left them.

I doubt he had anything to rob.

Thanks re Snapchat. I still don’t understand the immediate police call. If Lucy had seen the barren landscape etc perhaps but supposedly she hadn’t/didn’t know where he was bar location pin. If people called the police immediately after a mate was lost after a big session they’d be inundated with calls. Surely a more normal reaction would be “x is off their heads lost somewhere stupid idiot”. You’d wait for a bit. Unless she knew something else as to why she should worry. These seemingly are quite streetwise young people remember.

A mate not turning up after a big session is one thing. A mate ringing to say they are lost, in the middle of nowhere, need water, have cut themselves on a cactus and their battery is about to die is another matter. Maybe you think differently but, to me, that sounds like they need help.

Yes, if they were going to murder him (and why?) they would have done it while he was still in the house, not randomly chasing him down after he left.

I see that all the nationals are now reporting Slater's criminal past, now there are hints that the police are looking into this. They had held off previously.

Exactly, she had no way of knowing exactly how out in the sticks he was, plenty of young people end up in various locations they’d not intended after nights out.

I agree that would be a pretty normal reaction of ‘bloody hell what have you got up to now’ and expect him to roll in a while later a bit worse for wear.

ReadyTeddy1000 · 25/06/2024 13:13

There have been sniffer dogs out, and it baffles me that they've not picked up a scent AFAIK, given that he had cut his leg?

CatMumSlave · 25/06/2024 13:29

@Changingplace

*And getting a lift back - it was early, they’d all been at a festival and not even got back to the house until late, they were probably still asleep?

I don’t think any of these things are particularly unusual or hard to imagine happening*

I thought the same

Blouson · 25/06/2024 13:31

The drug takers say disappearing with a new friend isn't abnormal cos when you're off your face everyone is your friend. Its still suss to disappear with men though, 1 a lot older. What went on in that property. Do we know for a fact he called Lucy in the morning or do we just have her word for it?

Chenecinquantecinq · 25/06/2024 13:31

The only evidence he was at the Airbnb is the 2 men and a woman connected to them. His phone was obviously there but apart from a random pic of a hand no evidence he was. The reporting to police behaviour to me makes a lot more sense if she was worried about him for other reasons.

CatMumSlave · 25/06/2024 13:34

It's getting like Facebook (I've not joined or searched for anything to do with him on there)

"Have people spoken to the two men he was with?" Fucks sake!!

There's this possible sighting of him many hours later (around 6pm), looking worse for wear with two men, sitting on a bench. If it was him I wonder if it was the two men he went off with after the rave? But I thought they'd caught a flight that morning.
So it could be two completely different men who saw him looking worse for wear and took him for some reason. The fact he's still missing means they clearly didn't have good intentions.
Or maybe that wasn't him and he just slipped and fell in the mountains.

ellebelli · 25/06/2024 14:08

In regards to the last photo he posted(snap whatever, I don't have it so don't understand it) why just a random pic of his hand holding a cig?
I have a teen son on Snapchat and hes always taking selfies, surely a photo of him actually smoking the cig would have been the norm?
People say we only have Lucy's say that he rung her? But the police would have checked all of this...that being said it wouldn't tell if he actually spoke on the call...just the duration and who called who.
Lots of oddities

Not really no, that type of photo is very very common. Hotdog legs on hol, that sort of thing, I think you’re over analysing now.

And it doesn't seem that the men on the bench have ever appeared, so either they were up to no good, or it wasn't Jay and they haven't even registered that it's them who were spotted.

CatMumSlave · 25/06/2024 14:54

@ellebelli Clearly you don't understand snap chat then so can't say what the norm is.

I’m sure the police will have checked the basic fact that there was a call between them, yes.

But it could have been anyone who phoned her from his phone. His phone was there, and they'llhave checked if there was a call, but that doesn't mean Jay was there or made the call. I think the point is that a lot is being placed on Lucy's "recollection of events"

Mark Williams-Thomas, who bare in mind was only a Detective Constable for merely 9 months, at the end of this...
