Anyone else think there might be something strange about the 19yr old disappearance in Tenerife?

I get that kids do foolish things, like travelling at night with 2 strangers.

But if he was seen at the new accommodation around 8am, and again walking briskly along the road some time “later”, how could he have needed to make a call at 8.30am saying he was lost, had no phone charge and needed water? He would have only just left the accommodation so definitely wouldn’t need water. And why not send your gps or what three words location then?

Surely, the right thing to do would be to hand over login details to either the British or Spanish Police instead of potentially comprising evidence...

Edited

Firstly, how on earth would his mum/anyone know his login details? Esp if he was up to dodgy stuff.
Has he/someone switched on his phone (and thereby logging into messenger), but they're trying to cover their tracks? I just can't see how his mum would know them

Secondly, those questioning his mum using Snapchat - I'm 52 and use Snapchat, and most people I know also do. Not regularly, like FB, but definitely use it. She's not 100 yrs old!

Is there anybody else who can't see them ever reaching the 30k target?

They're only getting money in drips & drabs now, it's not constant like it was a few days ago- a fiver here, twenty quid there.

I think there'll be a big development by the Spanish Police not before long, by Monday at least.

I'm surprised nobody/police/someone has topped it up to the 30k, to see what happens next.
Esp given that the money would be refunded if it was a scam or for a ransom.

SloaneStreetVandal · 23/06/2024 00:02

I hadn't been paying any particular attention to this, my husband piqued my interest today though by saying he thought there was a strong whiff of inside job (and my husband is the antithesis of the conspiracy theorist!).

The missing guy left with just two men (and by car, so men who were either completely or at least somewhat sober) to an apartment miles away in a remote part of the island. Two guys, no girls - I'm not sure what that is, but it certainly doesn't constitute an after party!

The gofundme is bizarre - 30 grand!? Why so much??? The missing guy's Mum and Brother would need only a couple of grand for flights and a few days kip. They're not searching on the moon! And someone has made multiple attempts to draw the money out from the gofundme in the last 48 hours (which is why the Mum's name keeps appearing then disappearing - it's not just hearsay, I've saw her name toing and froing myself today by visiting the GFM page a few times). And the blurb put on the GFM by the girl Lucy Mae reads like a police statement in it's intricate movement detail. And why hide her face in interviews???

The whole thing is absolutely atypical.

Only an internet rumour, not been reported anywhere?
It's been reported in the Daily Mail and many other newspapers...

I could link the other newspapers but I think that headline is self-explanatory and proof enough that it's not just a rumour.

Same here though, my first thought was who on Earth of his mothers generation would use Snapchat?

Calm down I clearly wrote my post as a question 🙄

So much nonsense is being written online about this, weirdly there was a FB ‘joke’ about him being stuck on a cactus but I now wonder if it was written after this story, who knows the whole thing is increasingly bizarre.

£28,492 now thanks to a £600 payment from Gary in the last half hour so it's just £1508 left to the target, I think we'll get there today to see what happens next...

Totally agree, the utter naivety of some posters astounds me, even in the OP not comprehending why he’s need water, its quite eye opening what a sheltered life some people have led.

not as sheltered as the good ladies over on GN, your eyes will be like saucers reading their corresponding thread ha ha

the diligence of the Spanish police and firefighters in searching for Slater has
been nothing short of impressive

"Travel and transport" on her Instagram bio haha

Seen quite a few posts suggesting that Lucy follows drug accounts on Instagram

From Twitter: "the pages she follows aren’t some dud bot accounts. Loads of my reputable guys follow em. Few dons I know of, recently been offering people holidays to places like Spain & Thailand to ya know. Wage + free holiday + you take the risk for them"

I'm a mum to a teenager. I don't use Snapchat but quite a few of the other mums do. It's how they communicate to their kids.

I’m not usually one for conspiracy theories but it would go somewhere to explain why she’s not wanted to show her face on TV interviews which is a very odd decision.

And also pointless since her pics are being used in the media anyway!

Alternative possibility is she's seen how people get tore apart for not having the 'correct' body language when being interviewed.

All the advice we're constantly bombarded with about online fraud and being wary, and yet here in plain sight some good-hearted people might be donating money they can little afford, without one single sentence to say what the £30k will actually be used for.

Quite. However the chat title is unavoidably explicit in it's invitation to express aspects of the case one finds strange.
I understand that it might make a person feel superior to call those of us chatting about the strange aspects chavs or the like, it's nonetheless utterly pointless and incredibly boring.
In case you didn't realise, you ARE free to scroll past such threads (same goes for actively seeking out the aforementioned FB groups that you find unappealing).

ellebelli · 23/06/2024 10:11

All those holier than thou types who dislike the thread and fall over themselves to comment thus, and report it- here's an idea- stay off it if it offends you.

I find it very annoying and boring when yet another thread gets cancelled because of it.

My comment, in reply, to the post calling conspiracy theorists on FB chavs was an observation that its happening here.

If the cap fits......

The thread won't be deleted for conspiracy theories. I think they are fine. But people should expect counter views no?

Same applies, just ignore posts with the counter theories/poss explanations if you don't like them.

My thoughts exactly, some people (Gary and Shelly) have given £600 each.

You often hear "why don't we teach xyz in School", for example mortgages and critical thinking but you just can't teach the latter to some people- it's just common sense.

There's an example of this on the Gransnet thread,

"why don't we teach I hope his situation can be discussed in schools. I hope time and teaching staff can be allocated. No sense in teaching only academic stuff if kids die on holiday for lack of knowledge of how hot and hostile these holiday Islands are away from the busy coast. And how kids on holiday must stay together. I wouldn't have known any of this at his age.
They must be taught basic elements of looking after themselves."

IMO...

  1. It's not a proportionate response to the amount of times stuff like this actually happens.
  2. The vast overwhelming majority of young adults who go off on Holidays every year don't get into situations like this.
  3. Where do you draw the line about teaching them basic elements of looking after themselves?
  4. I'm not entirely sure that it'd make a blind bit of difference anyway.
  5. Teachers and the school system as a whole are being asked to do way too much.

This issue has gone viral amongst teens and young adults. The reason? The absolute mad comments by mostly middle aged women. It’s quite embarrassing.

I think there are some that are quite clearly joke posts with a tongue in cheek angle which people are falling for but there are others who are quite serious, for example the ones about watching that stupid webcam.
