Chub rub - bloody hell!

I've got chub rub for the first time. Why????

I've never had it before - i'm a bit overweight and my thighs are bigger than I'd like, but this has always been the case and I've never had it before. Why now?!

Seriously though, what do I do? How do I get rid of it? I wore a floaty dress today and now my thighs are red and sore. I never fully appreciated how bad this was!

I hated the snag ones - just like cut off tights. They were much too hot and I needed underwear with them. Another vote for sloggi long line knickers - they’re cotton and nothing needed under them.

Agreed re snags. Mine also went at the leg seams meaning I had threads hanging down. They didn't last long at all.

Everythingiscalmfornow · 20/06/2024 22:20

Blimey this thread is a revelation to me. Never ever heard of chub rub and never experienced it. Only started reading the thread because i thought it was a joke one.Absolutely amazed to hear people wearing shorts under dresses because of it! Not to mention special creams for it etc.
A whole new world I never knew about.

Fiery30 · 20/06/2024 22:25

I bought my chub rub shorts from Amazon and M&S and been using them for years in warm to very hot weather. I used to use coconut oil before but that was only a temporary solution. Nothing works like the shorts.

Bodyglide. Amazing stuff. Works and also one tube lasts forever.

I second this. I have one on me at all times in the summer.

Very thin tights with the legs cut off at knee height is what I use. Three for £5 - I wash them and keep using them until they fall apart. Miles cheaper than chub rub shorts and less hot too.

I do the same. When any of my tights get a home in the feet or a snag, I cut them down to shorts and wear those under skirts or dresses.

Ginmonkeyagain · 20/06/2024 22:28

I used to get chub rub really badly to the point I had to use hydrocortisone cream as a teen, but then I took up kickboxing for a number of years and now I do yoga most days and rarely get it despite being a size 14/16. I think it had lengthened my thigh muscles

DoYouSmokePaul · 20/06/2024 22:31

I can still remember clearly the day I got chub rub for the first time. It was summer 2021, first time I’d been out in a dress and no tights since pre-lockdown (and pre the lockdown stone I put on). Was alright until I went out at lunchtime to enjoy the sun and after walking for one block I realised my thighs were in agony. No shops nearby that sold tights, lube, etc so had to use hand cream I had in my bag, which didn’t really work so I had to keep popping to the loo to reapply. Shorts were ordered that afternoon.

Snags or roll on deodorant

marmiteloversunite · 20/06/2024 22:33

M&S also do culotte slips which are great under longer dresses and not so clingy. Like a petticoat but shorts. Bit more breathable.

OrigamiOwls · 20/06/2024 22:36

I found shorties from Lady B Loves to be much better than Snag

Edited

I was at a wedding in the middle of a village with no shop. Agony all day!

Good wedding though.

I had it terribly once on a walk in Thailand. But the end my things were pouring blood and every step was agony.
Never particularly had it before or since despite being fat.
I do wear Snags with dresses out of fear.

Spaceracers · 20/06/2024 22:37

@Everythingiscalmfornow don't get too smug, it could get you next!

I'm now wearing long pjs to protect my raw thighs.

Going to try the sloggi and the snags as I can't imagine getting through the summer with them!

I think for me it is an age thing. I seem to sweat more everywhere
I do naturally have a small gap between my thighs (podgy in other areas though so not boasting)
I do start to feel the first twinges/stings of chub rub.
I got this last year and it worked well, on a hot holiday with lots of dresses worn, I also liked the scent

Chub rub - bloody hell!
Cattery · 20/06/2024 22:45

Sudocrem on the sore spots tonight

I'm actually not smug. More surprised really because I've never really had thin thighs.

NoSnowdrop · 20/06/2024 22:50

the pp who suggested cheap thin fabric cycling shorts - yep they’re perfect

there’s no need to spend £££££ on snag at all, and especially not if you disagree with corporate virtue signalling propaganda supporting the mutilation of healthy breasts in young females/trillion dollar big Pharma/medical pathway for life selling people lies.

MistyHedgehog · 20/06/2024 23:12

I occasionally get it too OP. Not sure why it’s sometimes rather than all the time either.

I use Waleda nipple balm. It works really well at creating a barrier so no need for shorts underneath.

BashfulClam · 20/06/2024 23:17

Big bloomer company shorts. They are moisture wicking (dont use fabric softener when washing) so they keep you 1degree cooler under dresses.

OldTinHat · 20/06/2024 23:23

Another one recommending roll on anti perspiration. Cheap and effective!

It’s not just how thick or thin your thighs are. How wide your hips are also plays a part.

7catsisnotenough · 20/06/2024 23:55

Liquid talc! Asda do one - only a couple of £s - I'm sure others are available. Game changer!

MferMonsterSearchingForRedemption · 21/06/2024 00:39

I've just got it for the first time walking around Rome. I didnt realise how sore it can be. I had to wear shorts under my dress today. I've never had it before, either. It's hot and I'm walking a lot but I didn't prepare for this.

Ohnobackagain · 21/06/2024 01:02

@Spaceracers these are lovely and soft and not too hot. Wash well too.

You can lose weight but it might not fix it

I was nine and half stone and still had chub rub (5'5)

I have other more redeeming features I swear 😆
