Chub rub - bloody hell!

Spaceracers · 20/06/2024 20:45

I've got chub rub for the first time. Why????

I've never had it before - i'm a bit overweight and my thighs are bigger than I'd like, but this has always been the case and I've never had it before. Why now?!

Seriously though, what do I do? How do I get rid of it? I wore a floaty dress today and now my thighs are red and sore. I never fully appreciated how bad this was!

How wide your hips are also plays a part.

^

This. I've got narrow hips

the pp who suggested cheap thin fabric cycling shorts - yep they’re perfect

there’s no need to spend £££££ on snag at all, and especially not if you disagree with corporate virtue signalling propaganda supporting the mutilation of healthy breasts in young females/trillion dollar big Pharma/medical pathway for life selling people lies.

Absolutely this.

I know Snag is a big brand that is recognisable but I’d honestly implore any woman to steer clear.

The quality of their items has slipped, but they’re also championing young healthy women cutting off their breasts and making explicit, sexualised ads featuring men in women’s underwear. Lots of info about the problems with Snag on the feminism board, if anyone is interested.

Great suggestions on this thread for cheap alternatives, but if you’re looking for something similar to the Snag shorts then try looking at Popsy or Big Bloomer. Theres also Sloggi on Amazon and I believe Better Tights do some too.

Oblomov24 · 21/06/2024 02:58

I've always had it and hated it.

Blimey this thread is a revelation to me. Never ever heard of chub rub and never experienced it. Only started reading the thread because i thought it was a joke one.Absolutely amazed to hear people wearing shorts under dresses because of it! Not to mention special creams for it etc.
A whole new world I never knew about.

Same here, strange as I've been a size 16 ever since having my primary age DC, and I only ever wear dresses, and don't actually own any trousers!

OriginalFloorboards · 21/06/2024 03:32

Some brilliant tips on here. I got it last year size 10 but big thighs from riding horses. This year I’m OK. I’ve no idea what’s changed or why.

OP I agree. It’s weird how it comes and goes. Lots of good advice though. I did buy the shorts but felt uncomfortable. If it comes back I’ll try the cream.

AhBiscuits · 21/06/2024 06:07

When I was overweight I used to put roll on deodorant on my thighs. It works.

BrendaSmall · 21/06/2024 06:12

I wear cheap cycling shorts under my dresses
Tried snagg tights Chub rub shorts and they’re awful, made me sweat and gave me thrush and laddered very easily and the sizing was rubbish

Everysand · 21/06/2024 06:22

It's to do with your bone structure rather than size, I am size 14 with fairly average thighs but because of my bone structure have a gap, women that are very slim can get it, actually my DH does a bit so not just women. I used to hate my gappy legs but it seems I have been blessed.

Partridgewell · 21/06/2024 06:45

I have never before felt so grateful for my inordinately wide hips! Well, actually, they were also pretty handy during labour, but it's been a while!

WhataPithy · 21/06/2024 07:00

I’m size 8 and very fit but I still get rub on the very hot and humid days. I do have a narrow pelvis.

I ordered snag shorts last summer and they were rubbish 🤯 As already said, they’ve made of just a thick tights material, which made me hot and there’s also a thick seam right in the middle which shows through form fitting clothing.

I do wonder if many of the glowing reviews here are sent by them…

Also, Snag sent the pants in sealed paper bags. As soon as the seal was broken the product was unrefundable. So because I wanted to try and see the feel of the product, I had to open the bags 🤯

M&S rub shorts are seamless and much better!

Snag's chubb rub shorts beat everyone else's. Short stretchy tights, well made, and they stand up to the friction of rubbing + wash nicely. Run don't walk, before they go.

(a recommendation, not an ad)

I think they're awful personally. They are tights material so get way too hot. I buy 100% cotton ones (or 95% plus elasthane).

Spaceracers · 21/06/2024 07:08

The hip thing makes sense as my hips are wide which is part of the reason I think my thighs are big whatever my actual weight - so explains why I haven't had it before!

Maybe just unlucky this year or there's something in the suggestion of the skin becoming looser - gulp!

I will avoid avoid Snag, and stick with slogi and the 4 pack from Amazon someone recommended.

Solidarity with everyone who deals with this every summer!

I used to buy snag but never again....I disagree with their philosophy

sandgrown · 21/06/2024 07:13

I second ASDa Little Angels liquid talc from the baby section . It’s amazing and cheap.

Wonderfulstuff · 21/06/2024 07:16

I've been also sorts of sizes and have had it since I was a child. Always been a sweaty betty and very thin sensitive skin (only recently discovered I have a health condition that relates to both) so live the chub rub life.

I've worn snag, sloggi and just plain old primark cycling shorts. Most comfy are probably sloggi as they are 100% cotton but they are pricey and quite long in the leg so not ideal for short skirts. The Primark cycling shorts really lose their shape as you wear them so if you are wearing a more fitted skirt/dress their sagginess might be see from the outside. Snag come in nice colours and are shorter in the leg so more suitable for shorter skirts - plus I think a flash of bright pink is much nicer than something flesh coloured. However they aren't as good as they used to be and definitely feel like a cheaper material now. I just bought some and if these aren't up to muster I will be looking elsewhere.

On that note, I'm keen to try the M&S ones but they always seem to be out of stock in my size. Keeping up with this thread for more future suggestions.

You are not alone OP!

Ginmonkeyagain · 21/06/2024 07:24

Also look in running shops for products as runners are experts in sweaty places that rub.

longdistanceclaraclara · 21/06/2024 07:24

I really dislike the snag ones. They're basically tights and too thick. I have some from m and s and primark that are much better.

Plus as others have said snag have some dubious ideology so I'd rather avoid.

Danikm151 · 21/06/2024 07:33

Liquid talc!

but snag chubrub shorts for the win. I have 4 sets

MardyBigBum · 21/06/2024 07:39

Fluffyowl00 · 20/06/2024 21:28

Asda’s little angels liquid talc also works a treat if you don’t went to wear shorts.

I can second this, I’d much rather use this than put on an extra layer of clothes. Also, it’s cheap as chips!

TheChosenTwo · 21/06/2024 07:45

I got it a few years ago in Italy, sweat galore!
The pain was sharp and made walking quite tricky, I had to google what I could do in a pinch and they suggested roll on deodorant which worked a treat. Did need reapplying once during the day but no issues.
Never needed to buy anything else tbh; if I’m wearing a dress I just do a couple of swipes and I’m all set: haven’t needed to reapply really but I think in Italy it eventually sweated away. Hardly likely in this climate!

Bettyscakes · 21/06/2024 07:48

For those that use the Asda talc do you take out with you & reapply? Or does it last a while?

PurpleWhiteGreen123 · 21/06/2024 08:24

I use Sudocrem on the burns.

I've given up on skirts and dresses, sadly, because my thighs are very large. Even undershorts don't help because they make (down there) very hot and sweaty.

HMW1906 · 21/06/2024 08:24

Snag do some shorts that work well. Or you can get Lanacaine anti chaffing gel from Boots/superdrug etc.
