19 year old missing.

I haven't seen any posts on this although I may have missed it.

A 19 year old boy has gone missing while on holiday with friends in Tenerife. No phone battery and has not been heard from since 8am yesterday.

I cannot stop thinking about him and his family. I have a son the same age who was due to go abroad with his friends for the first time last week but plans were cancelled last minute and now I feel like I never want him to go anywhere!

I'm not sure the point in me posting this as no one will know what has happened, I guess I just can't help thinking what if he was my son?

I am praying he is okay. My heart absolutely breaks for his Mum who has traveled there this morning.

Google his sickening attack on Tom Hilton.

I feel for his mother still.

His mother will be in bits no matter what he's done.

Wow.

As you, I feel for the mother still but this puts a very different lens on him

I acknowledged his mother.

That poor boy. He's lucky those thugs didn't kill him.

flossie232 · 19/06/2024 23:01

I feel for his mother. It's horrendous.

I also feel for the mother of the boy him and his friends attacked who is now having to see her son's attacker portrayed as a 'lovely lad'.

It's possible to have compassion for both.

I don't think he deserves a horrible fate of being kidnapped or left alone to die in the heat somewhere remote, but this does cast a different light on things. People are even saying it could be linked (sorry @TakeOnFlea that's probably a conspiracy)

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Agree with your comment.

If he had received a custodial sentence instead of
Jay Slater, 18...Accrington - 18 month community order with 25 days rehabilitation activities and 150 hours unpaid work. instead of holidaying in Tenerife, his whereabouts would be known.
Horrible situation all round, but I hate that the accused were disrespectful towards poor Tom Hilton's family.

It's not feeling superior. It's showing basic compassion for Jay's family (who you can look up on SM, the post has been shared plenty). I also have kids around the same age as him.

You can be worried for his safety without typing heart wrenching scenarios about how you perceive he would have been feeling and how awful it makes you feel.

I've been in the situation of having a tragic situation with one of my dc, and having to read conversations from grief vampires, after the fact, imagining what my family was going through and trying to outdo each other with how sad they all were and how they were the most compassionate of all.

It's both upsetting to the family, and pathetic to read.

I didn't type a heart wrenching scenario anywhere.
I am NOT the most compassionate of all. I never said I was.
This is a shit situation and I DO imagine it was my DS, I can't help it. I was a mess when the 4 lads went camping in Wales and went off the road. I rarely type my thoughts but I responded to this thread because it's awful and I feel for his Mum so much. I don't think it's pathetic to read and I don't think they will ever read it. Like I said, Mumsnet is NOT my first port in a storm.

I didn't mean you personally, it was aimed towards other posters who have been doing just that.

Fair enough if you wouldn't come to MN for support. I certainly did, and so do hundreds of other posters.

Ok fair enough. I hope Jay's Mum isn't reading this and feeling worse but I also hope if she is, she feels the hope we all have for her that her boy will come back safe to her.

Agreed, I hope he gets back to his family safe and sound.

TakeOnFlea · 20/06/2024 01:37

"Entitled up your arse cows"

You sound lovely. I simply pointed out that the lads family had specifically asked that people don't keep writing the things you were writing. What's so difficult to comprehend there?

ImNotGivingAwayMyShot · 20/06/2024 02:04

FatmanandKnobbin · 19/06/2024 11:35

Tbh I agree with @TakeOnFlea

You're not spreading awareness or keeping Jay's name in the public eye, you haven't linked anything, or shared a photo.

You're discussing your heartache at another families difficult situation, and how you can't bear to think about him in X scenario (I'm not repeating it) after members of the family (the people who actually know him) have said they are finding it increasingly difficult to read these accounts of what he could be going through.

Sharing articles and photos, as the family have requested, brilliant, sitting pouring your heart out and discussing imagining him being XY and Z when the family have said they find it hard to read is little bit of a grief theif situation imo.

I intentionally didn't share the name and link so it wasn't searchable by anyone close to him as I was expressing my own feelings while sending positive thoughts and prayers to the family (albeit without them knowing).

My point was to the PP you agree with, is that his Mum was trying to keep it in the public eye so I didn't see the problem with discussing it when it's all over the news I am hopeful he is going to be ok.

If you have a teenage son and this hasn't affected you then I think you should look at yourself instead of trying to put me down.

Come on, ‘mistake’ is not the right word for what he did is it.

MariaVT65 · 20/06/2024 03:02

Also his mum is describing him as ‘a great person’ so i lack sympathy for her as well tbh.

In what way was it a mistake?

Port1aCastis · 20/06/2024 07:34

Are you a relative of the missing young man OP, is that why you can't stop thinking about him?

You wouldn't know how it has affected me because I'm not the one making it all about myself.
