I haven't seen any posts on this although I may have missed it.

A 19 year old boy has gone missing while on holiday with friends in Tenerife. No phone battery and has not been heard from since 8am yesterday.

I cannot stop thinking about him and his family. I have a son the same age who was due to go abroad with his friends for the first time last week but plans were cancelled last minute and now I feel like I never want him to go anywhere!

I'm not sure the point in me posting this as no one will know what has happened, I guess I just can't help thinking what if he was my son?

I am praying he is okay. My heart absolutely breaks for his Mum who has traveled there this morning.

I can tell you if my son was out there, I would have acquired some walking boots and be on that search! 43k can buy alot of walking boots...

DallasCC · 30/06/2024 19:49

Whoa £44,298 and still going!

BeefBrisket · 30/06/2024 19:55

But why are half these people there if they can't assist in the search? This Lucy and all the family of the friends?

Exactly. It's all rather opaque

All a bit strange. Loads of family and friends being flown out to support one another. But not actually help search? Did they withdraw the funds in the end? Now the search is over, will they be flying back. Surely they have jobs at home. Looks like an extended holiday to me.

Why would family members with no expertise go out searching? The rescue teams are very skilled and knowledgeable. Leave them to do their job.

eish · 30/06/2024 20:44

I suspect there are lots of aspects of the story that are unreported or are lines of enquiry the police are exploring but don’t want to release to the general public.

On the helping front we don’t know that the rescue services didn’t advise them not to join (they wouldn’t want more teens getting into trouble and requiring rescuing). The reason I think this is likely is exactly because none of them (except brother and father) joined the search.

notgettinganyyounger · 30/06/2024 21:17

Ok, so only the experts were to join the search. So what arw all the family and friends doing out there? They don't seem to actually be doing anything at all? Someone said perhaps they are giving out flyers but absolutely no reports of them doing anything, and there would ve reports.

I can understand his mother wanting to be there in the expectation/hope that he'd be found. I can understand her wanting family & close friends with her. I'm not sure how big the entourage grew, nor who is funding what, but it does seem a bit excessive! A massive grief party in the sun? Weird.

Garlicker · 30/06/2024 21:48

Just seen Debbie Duncan's statement "I'm surrounded by wonderful people who are by my side, but far from their loved ones, so we'll also be using part of these funds to fly them to Tenerife so we can support each other during these dark times."

It's her money, I guess ...

I'd be spending to to hire people to help with the hunt I think!

Garlicker · 01/07/2024 01:07

I'd have thought so, too, @CassandraWebb. Maybe they aren't used to feeling they have agency - that they could be proactive, could engage professionals, aren't just helpless observers. The only 'experts' they're known to have reached out to are two self-important fuckwits off YouTube. It feels like they're totally out of their depth, not only with shock & grief, but also with unfamiliar surroundings.

CatMumSlave · 01/07/2024 07:46

It's funny how differently we all interpret things.

To some (most) it meant they have searched all the my can. It doesn't necessarily mean the police aspect is closed.

To others they think it means there is an update either found dead or alive.

Bromptotoo · 01/07/2024 08:52

Eventually, absent a body, a missing person search in these circumstances has to end.

Unless he turns up alive after leading us a merry dance then I suspect something will be found eventually and DNA tested.

I have heard it said that anyone other than experts should stay at home, if it’s dangerous places to search volunteers can put themselves in danger.

RicePuddingWithCinnamon · 02/07/2024 16:49

They are focusing on the two men last seen with him at the Airbnb according to the Daily Mail.

TERFCat · 02/07/2024 17:23

God bless him and his family.

And all the people his mum flew out there on the GFM money, where were they?

‘Loved ones to support them in these dark times’ apparently…
