19 year old missing.

I haven't seen any posts on this although I may have missed it.

A 19 year old boy has gone missing while on holiday with friends in Tenerife. No phone battery and has not been heard from since 8am yesterday.

I cannot stop thinking about him and his family. I have a son the same age who was due to go abroad with his friends for the first time last week but plans were cancelled last minute and now I feel like I never want him to go anywhere!

I'm not sure the point in me posting this as no one will know what has happened, I guess I just can't help thinking what if he was my son?

I am praying he is okay. My heart absolutely breaks for his Mum who has traveled there this morning.

She's flying her mates out to support her?!

Flying out the ‘loved ones’ of friends/family who are ALREADY there but need the support themselves apparently 😳

DallasCC · 27/06/2024 12:50

She's gross.

I will retract that if Im found to be wrong. But my intuition says she's not right.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/06/2024 15:49

Maybe people are generally just getting warey of the go fund me pages

I can't say I'd blame them; I've just been onto the site and some of the requests are jaw dropping

Obviously folk aren't obliged to give, but there really is one born every minute Sad

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/06/2024 15:51

What does "GFM" mean - surely it's not the girlfriend's mum?? Confused

But then they'll need their loved ones and so on until half of Lancashire is there! A strange use of the free go fund me money though - a jolly boys outing to Tenners!].

@Cattery that's FGM and thankfully nothing to do with this madness 😣

RicePuddingWithCinnamon · 30/06/2024 10:42

I see the search has been called off.

Zonder · 30/06/2024 10:54

Is that likely to mean they've found something?

Possibly not. If they've not found him now, it's been 2 weeks so he's not likely to have survived in the heat.

eish · 30/06/2024 11:15

I would agree that it does not necessarily mean they have found something but that it is unlikely he would still be alive if he had fallen and was unfound. The family must now be hoping the conspiracy stories are correct and that he was taken and is still alive / can be returned. To lose someone and never know what happened must be horrendous. Someone I knew many years ago went missing (she ran away so a different scenario) and her family have never stopped searching.

Zonder · 30/06/2024 11:17

It looks like they haven't found anything.

eish · 30/06/2024 11:31

Yes they’ve found nothing on their search apparently but they haven’t implied they’ve found anything that would linked to conspiracy theories either (although they may not release information about other lines of enquiry).

It does seem strange that he left the road and that no one else saw him as reports are that the road is relatively busy for a rural area. That said, he had bee drinking, possibly taking drugs and if he started to get disoriented due to dehydration he may have made poor choices. The area is very dense and treacherous.

I’ve just read that the search was called off. They had one final push with 24 search and rescue people and asked for volunteers to join them. They only had 6 people. Surely the family and friends out there would have been more than 6 of you knew it was the final search??

eish · 30/06/2024 11:39

They asked for experts in searching this type of terrain which I doubt family were.

TimeGoesBySoSlowlyForThoseWhoWait · 30/06/2024 11:45

Ah that makes more sense, the link I read just said they asked for volunteers and only 6 showed up

And all the people his mum flew out there on the GFM money, where were they?

Had the money from the GFM been used to fly friends and family out? If so they really should be searching for him.

eish · 30/06/2024 12:03

Yes I agree, if it was me I would have been handing out missing fliers even if I couldn’t help the mountain search.

All a bit strange. Loads of family and friends being flown out to support one another. But not actually help search? Did they withdraw the funds in the end? Now the search is over, will they be flying back. Surely they have jobs at home. Looks like an extended holiday to me.

But they specifically asked for experienced mountaineers. I’m a hiker / walker but I wouldn’t have volunteered because I’m not a mountaineer. His father said he was disappointed there was only one British man (the TikTok explorer guy, my autocorrect has just suggested exploiter which is potentially more accurate). However, even if you were there on holiday you are unlikely to have walking boots and kit (most people are there for sun and beaches). But if I had gone out because my friend was missing I probably would have taken my hiking boots etc, or I’d have been at the mountaineers base with food / drinks etc for the volunteers. Perhaps the friends are on the main strips handing out fliers, searching bars etc. I can understand Bradley and Lucy needing a parent to support them, I’d be flying out to support my 19 year old.

The whole story is so strange and I think that is why there have been so many conspiracy theories.
