19 year old missing.

I haven't seen any posts on this although I may have missed it.

A 19 year old boy has gone missing while on holiday with friends in Tenerife. No phone battery and has not been heard from since 8am yesterday.

I cannot stop thinking about him and his family. I have a son the same age who was due to go abroad with his friends for the first time last week but plans were cancelled last minute and now I feel like I never want him to go anywhere!

I'm not sure the point in me posting this as no one will know what has happened, I guess I just can't help thinking what if he was my son?

I am praying he is okay. My heart absolutely breaks for his Mum who has traveled there this morning.

I'm just glad this hasn't turned into the debacle on MN that the Nicola Bulley case did.

Unless i've missed threads upon threads of conspiracy theories, speculation and armchair detectives/psychologists which the NB case created.

It's sad. But the most obvious reason for him being missing is the most likely one. As it was with the NB case.

Horrible for his loved ones and not at all helped by nonsense online.

Maybe not on MN as I think k they have been zapped but FB is absolutely full of crackpot theories and allegations.

Of course.

But with Nicola Bulley, Mumsnet was also full of it - went into 8 or 9 threads I think. Many people complained so maybe MNHQ learned from that and have taken steps to shut it down this time on here as i'm sure there have been attempts.

I won't even attempt to look.

I was hoping MNHQ had learned lessons from the NB debacle, particularly as her family said how their trauma was made infinitely worse by the harassment by mainstream media and the harassment and speculation on social media.

But hey, MN traffic 'keeps the lights on' as Justine might say. Even if it is a) nonsense and b) causing distress and trauma.

As for the posters revelling in it as they did with Nicola Bulley - shit humans.

I am actually pleased to see that the GoFundMe page has stopped gaining traction now, and seems to have levelled out at £31K.

It's definitely gaining traction. God knows who's donating.

Going from £30K to £31.7K is 'flying?' Errr. OK then! Confused

Not really. It was £28K yesterday. It's hardly moving compared to some! AND especially when you consider the HUGE amount of publicity around Jay Slater!

@HerbertHoover, you know it's not bigotry to note the effects of 'class' on someone's life, right? Refusing to acknowledge it is just as bad as 'not seeing colour' or answering DV threads with 'women do it too'. It would be bigoted to assume that all working-class teenagers were violent, drug-dealing grifters: has anyone done that here?

Some criminal behaviour patterns are linked to socio-economic groups - Cornish beaches get trashed by public-school kids, for instance. Working-class teens being failed by the myth of meritocracy is a well recognised issue.

I won't go on with this, it's a derailment. I may as well mention that the Canaries have become a massive hub for drugs & people trafficking (not being anti-Canarian or South American / Balkan / Italian / Moroccan - phobic!) which explains some of the sleazier theories being proposed around the Web.

Edited

Completely agree!

I think it will slow right down soon. (It's pretty much stalled now. It's hardly moving at all.)

I guess time will tell if it will gain traction again. I predict it will be less than £33.5K by this time tomorrow.

We'll see.

Soon. The police are winding things down. They know what happened.

Do you have an update for us now? 🤔

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/06/2024 23:00

The go fund me fundraiser has reached the £30,000 total. The mother has posted an updated saying thanks etc, she also said to keep sharing the fundraiser 'far and wide'

Why? What's the money for?

In a statement somebody linked yesterday, the mum of one of the other lads there explained it was for the use of Jay's family and friends while they're in Tenerife

I don't think it mentioned what type of use though

TakeOnFlea · 24/06/2024 00:27

Well. This thread went well. And after all the mouthing off it seems the OP had second thoughts and slowly sidled away. Still heartbroken and not coping @DontBiteTheCat?

DontBiteTheCat · 24/06/2024 08:09

@TakeOnFlea are you drunk?

I didn’t start the thread hun, and I definitely haven’t said I’m “heartbroken and not coping”. Shitty sarcastic post didn’t go well did it? Maybe have a re-read of the OP and tag the correct poster…

If the police know what happened why are they still looking?
You have no idea what the police are doing. Stop trying to be a soothsayer on the back of a missing person and his family's distress

Bromptotoo · 24/06/2024 08:23

If the police have not found him then eventually they will wind down the search. Assuming he simply went off the beaten track and got lost in pretty wild country then it's very unlikely he'll turn up alive.

Willmafrockfit · 24/06/2024 08:40

twitter is terrible about this case, appalling,

TakeOnFlea · 24/06/2024 08:56

Ah yeah, because the thread you started got deleted didn't it. Tagged the right poster and went just fine with you resorting to boring MN classic "are you drunk?"

The thread I started when he first went missing with an article and photo? The one that descended into chaos? Yes it did get deleted, and rightly so. I reported it myself. What’s your point?

You didn’t tag the right poster though did you? You referred to “this thread”, quoted things the OP had said in your post and you said something about the OP sidling off. But that wasn’t me, was it? Because I’m not the OP. Own it instead of trying to backtrack. You’re embarrassing yourself.

TakeOnFlea · 24/06/2024 09:36

Wow calm down 🤣

Perfectly calm thanks, nice deflection though.

It’s a bit too early to be dealing with dickheads on the internet so I’ll leave you to it. Maybe just check who actually posted a thread before you @ posters next time, otherwise you look a bit silly.

Have a lovely day.

The Facebook groups are the worst when there’s a high-profile missing case. I remember joining a group when the RAF lad went missing after a night out. Some people on there were borderline obsessive, constant theories, everyone wanting to be ‘the one’ to point something out and be proved right, people fawning over the family members despite having no connection to them. Really brings out a bizarre mentality in some people😳
