I haven't seen any posts on this although I may have missed it.

A 19 year old boy has gone missing while on holiday with friends in Tenerife. No phone battery and has not been heard from since 8am yesterday.

I cannot stop thinking about him and his family. I have a son the same age who was due to go abroad with his friends for the first time last week but plans were cancelled last minute and now I feel like I never want him to go anywhere!

I'm not sure the point in me posting this as no one will know what has happened, I guess I just can't help thinking what if he was my son?

I am praying he is okay. My heart absolutely breaks for his Mum who has traveled there this morning.

@BarcardiWithGadaffia
Well this is what I'm saying, I don't think it was pre planned in the 2 weeks. I don't think that level of planning went into it. I think it was more a spur of the moment thing. Like a day or two. I don't think it was some kind of master plan. Just a stupid idea which has possibly now gone wrong.

I don't think the mum knew from the off. I don't think she would have supported it. But I think she knows now and has been trapped by the teens lies. It's pretty bloody serious to have that level of search going on for nothing. In that regard I actually do still feel a bit sorry for her if that's the case.

If she thought her son was missing and then this friend of his admits he's not. She sees all the searching going on, all the publicity etc. She then panics and doesn't see a way out. I don't think she was sat at home knowing this was going to happen.

Missing Jay Slater is 'spotted watching Euros', says mayor in Tenerife

Several locals in the town of Santiago del Teide believe they may have spotted Jay in the days since he disappeared, according to the town's mayor.

A lot of 18 year old lads look like Jay. Thousands of Brits watching the football.

The Mayor has not said he's been seen just that there are reports.

Emergency services searching for missing British teenager Jay Slater have honed in on a specific area, authorities have said.

Police officers told Sky News they were examining the area, a rock face where there is a water source, with the help of drones.

They said the land they were focusing on was arid, barren and difficult to get to on foot.

ApothecaryRose · 26/06/2024 16:08

The most obvious explanation is he tried to get water and fell. The whole drugs/kidnapping is bollocks.

socks1107 · 26/06/2024 16:11

This may not be the outcome hoped for, but may bring closure and for now stop all the internet sleuths and gory hunters.
The most obvious explanation is most probably what's happened

SplendidUtterly · 26/06/2024 16:15

Is it not weirdl that he chose to walk for 11 hours insted of getting the bus which apparently comes along every 10 minutes? I don"t get it.

The first bus was 2 hours away and how was he supposed to know it was an 11 hour walk?

Because he was probably off his face. I doubt he was the sort to go hiking so would have no idea about terrain etc

Just a pointless "private investigator" press conference trying to get his hands on the 30k no doubt.

Crikeyalmighty · 26/06/2024 16:59

I have no idea what the reality is - but in situations like this when people close to the situation immediately leap to the GFM before there is any resolution - I'm afraid a lot of people's thoughts rightly or wrongly immediately go to the Shannon Matthew's case.

Do you think rural Tenerife has a bus service every 10 minutes? I don't know where this obviously false but of information came from, did someone mistake a bus coming at 10am for there being 6 buses an hour?

The press is just as bad for encouraging our ghoulish behaviour. I was on the edge of my seat when they announced a major update. It has led to me treating this like some kind of Netflix thriller rather than sympathising for a real person who has gone missing.

Totally agree, the press are bloody hopeless, so much of it is supposition and guesswork. No wonder armchair detectives think they'll do a better job. On that MM case, the story varied significantly depending which outlet you followed and that was a lot more straightforward than whatevers happenned here.

So the GoFundMe is at 34.5K. I predicted it would be 33.5K by tonight. I wasn't that far off. There's only just over 3000 people donated. That's not many considering there's nearly 70 million people in the country. It's barely gained any traction this past few days... Compared to some, especially say, the Captain Tom one.

There's a few big payments there from the past few days. A big one of £600. Anybody that didn't know him would never pay that. Somebody in his family has paid that - to try and bump up the fund to make it look like it's going up quick. I think it's proper stalling now. I doubt it will make it to £50K...

Maybe people are generally just getting warey of the go fund me pages, especially following the Captain Tom one, after his daughter was found to be dishonest.

The latest with the GFM- his mum has put an update that she’s withdrawing some of the funds to help the mountain search effort and the rest for flights and accommodation/food for ‘loved ones’ of the friends and family already there ‘helping’ with the search. How many extended relatives/friends/acquaintances need to be there exactly? I’d be pretty pissed if I’d donated.

DallasCC · 27/06/2024 12:32

She's flying her mates out to support her?!

DallasCC · 27/06/2024 12:35

She still hasn't gone out and searched for him herself.

The British embassy has paid for her to be there, flights and accommodation.

Her other son and their dad is there, why does anyone else need to be flown over?

Nice little holiday courtesy of GFM 🙄
