19 year old missing.

I haven't seen any posts on this although I may have missed it.

A 19 year old boy has gone missing while on holiday with friends in Tenerife. No phone battery and has not been heard from since 8am yesterday.

I cannot stop thinking about him and his family. I have a son the same age who was due to go abroad with his friends for the first time last week but plans were cancelled last minute and now I feel like I never want him to go anywhere!

I'm not sure the point in me posting this as no one will know what has happened, I guess I just can't help thinking what if he was my son?

I am praying he is okay. My heart absolutely breaks for his Mum who has traveled there this morning.

There is so much speculation surrounding this case and people spouting nonsense as fact.

I hope the family get some sort of closure soon.

34 grand on the old fund raiser.

Tattle bantz off the scale.

buttnut · 24/06/2024 18:12

I’ve just seen on Twitter lots of posts about the barmy Facebook groups. Some of the posters are unintentionally hilarious asking whether anyone has thought to shout his name or play music he likes. Suggestions (completely serious) that he’s stuck to a cactus or an eagle has taken him and it would be good to check eagle nests.

So the GoFundMe is at 34.5K. I predicted it would be 33.5K by tonight. I wasn't that far off. There's only just over 3000 people donated. That's not many considering there's nearly 70 million people in the country. It's barely gained any traction this past few days... Compared to some, especially say, the Captain Tom one.

There's a few big payments there from the past few days. A big one of £600. Anybody that didn't know him would never pay that. Somebody in his family has paid that - to try and bump up the fund to make it look like it's going up quick. I think it's proper stalling now. I doubt it will make it to £50K...

Yeah I cant see it topping 50k. The whole story has tailed off although the facebook pages still have an insane amount of batshittery. Says a lot about his generation really as most posters seem relatively young.

Armchair detectives spouting shit non stop i see, a lot of…..his family are suspicious because they are not balling thier eyes out… could easily be shock. I haven’t cried since I was about 15, I’m just not a crier, I have no idea what I would be like in that situation, no one knows how they’d react until they are actually living it. What if they are putting on a brave face for the cameras and crying the rest of the day. The amount of speculation flying around is nuts. Whatever he did or didn’t do, he’s still got a family, people that care about him, he’s still a human being.

Why the hell are people busy scrutinising the Go fund me- ?? What are you trying to say - that it's some kind of Shannon Matthew's situation??

Yeah, potentially.

Why do they need that much money? Why haven't they closed it?

Police have spoken to several people who said they may have spotted Jay Slater watching Euro 2024 matches on the Tenerife coast, a local mayor has said.
Emilio Jose Navarro said police had interviewed several people who may have seen him.

Bizarre

What a pointless comment from the police!

Exactly that because it's not logical.

Again, @hungskir, the mum of one of the other lads with Jay has said it's intended for use by family and friends while they're on the island, though £34k is a hell of a lot to get through

Perhaps they'll donate some to the search and rescue team? Yeah, right

It's far too much money. The initial donation goal was £10,000 then someone put it up to £30,000.

Opportunism I imagine.

Blouson · 25/06/2024 17:32

Far too much??? It's whatever comes in.

It will only not go up if people stop donating.

Or they close the page.

But they won't. The mother was asking people to 'share the fundraiser far and wide' which I think is weird.

CatMumSlave · 25/06/2024 17:39

Well obviously yes

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 25/06/2024 16:54

I’ll go there. I’ve now seen 2 interviews with the mum and in both her body language was full of “tells” that signify someone’s probably lying.
I think the teenagers saw the Michael Mosley situation and stupidly thought it was an easy way to make a few quid. The fact the female friend started the gfm lines up with that. Quite possibly the mum knew nothing about it at first, but when seeing how distraught she was, the friend told her the truth. Mum then panics that her boy will go to prison for it (especially as he’s not squeaky clean) so carries it on. Now they’re all trapped in it.

Now mum probably is genuinely worried as she doesn’t know how he’s going to “reappear” without questions. Probably why she came up with the kidnap scenario as well.

Free money is free money. She may need it for repatriation and i think shes also said if she doesnt need it it will be returned.

The larger donations weren't from family members. They were made by one person but the money was collected from many smaller donations ie they'd had a whip round.

So how does that work? Say the worst happens and they have to repatriate a body. Say that costs £10,000 (no idea of actual costs). How do you decide whose money is used for that and who gets their money back?

I imagine its all or nothing. Keep the lot for costs or give it back.
