Anyone else loving the weather?

I'm so enjoying the cooler than normal weather. I can spend more time in the garden without getting hot and sweaty. Love sleeping in a cool bed. Can go for nice long walks. Less noise from neighbours. Win. Win.

No I just have a lot of empathy for people who are suffering. My mental health is ok. I’m looking forward to it warming up next week. But it is really getting lots of people down as it has been relentlessly bad since last June. How do you think the farmers are getting on? I think is such a shame when outdoor events that have been planned for months have been cancelled.

We’re probably all massively vitamin D deficient too. It has an impact. Those that enjoy lying under a blanket don’t seem to appreciate that. Such an ‘I’m alright Jack’ attitude.

But you’ll be “all right Jack” when it’s a heatwave so same difference

No actually that’s my point. I wouldn’t be. I would not start a thread saying how much I loved hot weather if people were suffering (and it had gone on for 11 months).

If we had hot and dry weather for 11 months I’d be wanting cool and rain. I don’t even like heatwaves in this country. I would just like to not put my heating on in June.

EnglishPotager · 16/06/2024 17:48

Pretty sure May was the warmest on record.

Yeah I'm sure it was. That must be why my heating was on almost every day!

EnglishPotager · 16/06/2024 17:48

Pretty sure May was the warmest on record.

May might have been warmer than average, but that's mostly because of the warmer temperatures over night.

The Met Office said the month’s high average temperatures were influenced particularly by warm conditions in the northern half of the UK, and by high overnight temperatures.

It's also worth pointing out the fact that Spring was the wettest since 1986, so definitely not normal weather.

The UK also had its wettest spring since 1986 and the sixth wettest on record

BinLolly · 16/06/2024 18:06

Yes people have posted that article already. Did you read it. Here's some pretty relevant passages:

The Met Office said the month’s high average temperatures were influenced particularly by warm conditions in the northern half of the UK, and by high overnight temperatures.

The UK also had its wettest spring since 1986 and the sixth wettest on record, the Met Office added. An average 301.7mm (11.87in) of rain fell on the country across March, April and May, nearly a third (32%) more than usual for the season.

On the tail of the world’s hottest year, and the UK’s wettest 18 months on record, we have the UK’s hottest spring on record, and it’s still wet.

The headline is just that, a headline. When you delve into the actual article it tells a very different story.

EnglishPotager · 16/06/2024 18:46

I take it all back. Yep. It's the start of the next ice age❄️

Disturbia81 · 16/06/2024 18:46

@Delatron Just hide the thread then. She started this for people who appreciate the cooler temps. If that triggers you then go on the other thread that talks about hating it. People are allowed to enjoy different temperatures and weather, and talk about it. It doesn't mean people don't care about crops, events etc. but what can we do? We can't change it.

RampantIvy · 16/06/2024 18:47

This thread has moved on since I last looked.
After the rain we had a sunny afternoon (yay) so I went to clear the drive of all the weeds, moss and lichen that has accumulated over the last 11 months.

But you’ll be “all right Jack” when it’s a heatwave so same difference

When did we last get a heatwave that lasted for 11 months?

I think what you don't appreciate is that warm weather in the UK rarely lasts for any length of time, which is why us cold haters love it so much. Note I said warm not 35 degree heatwave weather.

No I’m quite happy to call these blanket festering selfish people out. As are many others, as you can see.

You clearly don’t care about crops or anything or anybody else that is suffering.. Just as long as you can sleep at night and can lie under a blanket for another month of the year.

Quite happy to pull the OP up for being tone deaf right now.

Are you the thread police? People can post what they bloody well like. Get off your high horse.

Disturbia81 · 16/06/2024 18:56

@Delatron You are seriously tapped in the head.. how is it selfish to enjoy something she has no control over? And how dare you say I don't care, I do care. I've literally said I want to be out in my garden today so shut the hell up with your presumptions. You need to calm down love before you implode.

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 16/06/2024 18:57

blanket festering

😂😂😂

Disturbia81 · 16/06/2024 19:00

Really wish I could knit so I can make some festering blankets for these miserable muppets 😂

Oh I’m fine thanks. Finding this all quite amusing. Anyway, it looks like it’s finally warming up next week. No doubt you’ll all have a meltdown the minute it hits the dizzy heights of 23 degrees.

And I will stand by the fact that it’s very self absorbed to say you like cool and rainy weather all year round. The impact that has on other people and businesses is huge. But as long as you can sleep at night/ not have to listen to those annoying neighbours having fun/ those pesky kids playing football/. Very self absorbed..and not particularly pleasant.

How dare kids have fun and enjoy summer. Misery guts..

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 16/06/2024 19:19

The thing is nobody can control the weather so it can’t be ‘selfish’ as such to like a certain type - but it is grating as fuck to listen to people who have the weather they want approximately 11 months per year gloat about getting it another 1. When very mainly I bet they’re slightly older, no small kids to entertain, have cash to go away on holiday or do non-weather based activities etc

Yeah it’s your right to like the weather and yeah it isn’t the law to love the warmth/sun but people are sick to death of the weather being cheered on by a small group of what sound like insufferable individuals, especially given the implications for our food, agriculture and wildlife.

Tbh they belong in the same bracket as people who ‘loved the lockdowns’ and ‘hate people, because I’m so deep/interesting/clever everyone else is just brash and irritating’. Misanthropists, basically that dislike seeing others happy and socialising

EnglishPotager · 16/06/2024 19:13

Ah you’re the poster that doesn’t have a grasp on basic grammar…

I really had to sit on my hands not call that one out. Though I see others did. But you’ll understand that I can’t really take any of your posts seriously….

If my shitty attitude is having some empathy for those that are suffering after 11 months of rain then I’ll carry on with my shitty attitude.

Disturbia81 · 16/06/2024 19:28

@EnglishPotager That was aimed at the ones going on saying we're all blanket festerers for enjoying cooler temperatures. I wish I could knit them a blanket 😆

You're aiming your comments at the wrong person @Delatron I love sunny days. I do have small kids and love being out with them. I like cooler too. I'm the OPPOSITE of misery because I can still find positives in this situation. Why should we all be depressed all the time!?

@MaryMaryVeryContrary If people don't like to see others enjoying it then hide the thread, why keep coming back?

ForGreyKoala · 16/06/2024 22:10

Judging from the hot weather hating posts I read on MN I suspect that most of these posters are very introverted and don't like going outside very much. There is a much higher proportion of of this type on mumsnet than in real life.

Never a truer word was said! MN seems to attract the very introverted who can't cope with face to face interaction, but are more than happy to hide behind a keyboard and tell us all how they hate hot weather, having to actually go into an office, can't deal with unexpected door knocking or phone ringing, can't possibly socialise with their colleagues etc. etc. and act as though that is perfectly normal and the rest of us are wrong. Thank goodness for real life is all I can say!
