Anyone else loving the weather?

I'm so enjoying the cooler than normal weather. I can spend more time in the garden without getting hot and sweaty. Love sleeping in a cool bed. Can go for nice long walks. Less noise from neighbours. Win. Win.

Dry ish but dark grey cloud and chilly wind. Awwwh at least I can get cosy under a blanket and drink some hot chocolate… not

It's 16 here now but feels much hotter in the sun. Cloud cover keeps pretending to come over but then vanishing again. DD just crawled under her rain coat and complained it was too hot. She's a child after my own heart!

I forgot my sunglasses and am fed up squinting into the sun. We're out watching DS play cricket. Makes me tense already that there probably is much hotter to come

You have sun. Shock

I'm considering reporting the sun as missing.

Once again we have drizzly rain, grey skies and a feels like temperature of just 12°

People have got too used to abnormal overly hot and dry summers. What we are having now is just normal weather.

I'm 61 years old so seen a lot of summers. This is NOT normal weather for June. I have never had to have the heating on this time of year before. It's only on mumsnset I see this weird attitude, everyone I know is quite naturally fed up with the contant rain, wind and low temperatures. The constant grey gloomy skies are just downright depressing and oppressive. I love being outside but not when it's pissing down and blowing a gale, nothing pleasant about that at all.

And I'm even older and can concur with @Shitzngiggles

@VintageBrass it's the tone deafness of your posts, denial that this is abnormal weather for June in spite of evidence to the contrary and the "I'm alright Jack" attitude that is getting up people's noses.

We woke up to sunshine first thing, and now that my washing is ready I have had to use the tumble dryer (again) because it is pissing down.

I know we can't change the weather but we can whinge about it. The current weather has far reaching and wider consequences for everyone rather than for the odd few individuals who are afraid of breaking out into a sweat on the very few warm days we do get.

And no-one wants 35 degrees. Most people would be happy with a warm 20 - 25 degrees.

Warm not hot.

VintageBrass · 16/06/2024 12:25

The thing is if someone had started a thread saying "I'm loving this hot dry weather", I wouldn't jump on them and berate them for not thinking of the crops withering in the fields and the old folk dying.

It's called kindness and manners which is distinctly lacking on social media and forums.

Edited

And if it was hot and dry for 11 months nobody would start a bloody thread saying they liked it (like you have) as most people would be sick of the same weather for 11 months and would have some appreciation that whilst they like warm/hot/dry weather they don’t want it all year round. They would understand the far reaching implications of having hot and dry weather for 11 months.

And that is why you are tone deaf and selfish.

RampantIvy · 16/06/2024 13:03

I like hot, dry weather. I am also a gardener. I also read the news and weather forecasts and understand why we need warmth (not blistering heat), sunshine and rain.

Why do summer haters always equate summer with 35 degree heat for several months? No-one wants that. Not even those of us who don't list festering under a blanket as a favourite past time.

Again. You are being unpleasant...."Festering under a blanket"....just rude and childish.

I spend a lot of time gardening, walking, running etc
All of which is much more pleasant at 18C than 25C+.

Confused

But most of us aren't even getting above 14 /15°, let alone highs of 18. Those who are lucky enough to get warmer temperatures are still dealing with torrential downpours and unpredictable weather.

spikeandbuffy · 16/06/2024 14:38

No gardening or outside exercise here
My garden is a swamp
Netball cancelled due to the severe rain and wind
It's barely been above 14c and when it has, that's with rain, all day

It would be more pleasant between 20 to 23

That’s the point that everyone is making! It hasn’t been 18 degrees and pleasant otherwise people wouldn’t have had to put their heating on. It’s been freezing and raining. I haven’t been able to mow my lawn. I haven’t been in my garden.

Events have been cancelled this weekend due to the bad weather, my son’s cricket was cancelled. They don’t cancel events if it’s 18 degrees and pleasant.

Augustus40 · 16/06/2024 14:57

I prefer moderate temperatures I find my energy levels are better then.

I think a lot of people on this thread who say it's pleasant are in the south and can't appreciate there are places elsewhere in the UK that are bloody cold.

Yes but also I’m in the south and it has been cold this week - events cancelled and I’ve put the heating on. I think Scotland has been ok!

Disturbia81 · 16/06/2024 15:32

@VintageBrass I keep seeing "festering" said so bitterly, leave them to their miserable outlooks 😆 They talk as if you are controlling the weather! As if you suddenly started liking heat then it might get warmer. OP is just enjoying the cooler temps while it lasts, there's nothing wrong with that.

I personally would much prefer dry sunny 20c days right now, I want to be in my garden neatening it up. But I can't. I can't change it. But I can choose to not be miserable, and make the best of it.
Honestly can't relate to negative mindsets, life must be so much harder.

The op says she's in the south east which is where I am as well. While I know its not as bad here generally as other parts of the UK it's still been pretty shit for June. So she must have her own micro climate 🤔.

She can stop winding people up starting a thread about loving this shitty weather. And have some appreciation that people’s mental health is suffering after a year of this and a bad summer last year. People’s livelihoods are being ruined. Weddings, festivals, sports events, charity events…

Like I said it’s selfish and tone deaf. And people are right to pull her up on it

I'm in the south east and I'm also enjoying the cooler weather. It been around 19C today. Windy but sunny.

Why do you think the PP is overreacting?

This isn't an over reaction, it's reality. We're not talking about a few days of bad weather. You only have to check MN threads to see how much it's affecting people.

No I just have a lot of empathy for people who are suffering. My mental health is ok. I’m looking forward to it warming up next week. But it is really getting lots of people down as it has been relentlessly bad since last June. How do you think the farmers are getting on? I think is such a shame when outdoor events that have been planned for months have been cancelled.

We’re probably all massively vitamin D deficient too. It has an impact. Those that enjoy lying under a blanket don’t seem to appreciate that. Such an ‘I’m alright Jack’ attitude.
