That’s so interesting @SirVixofVixHall . What did you dh think about them stopping between 8pm and 7.30am? I’ve just returned from Greece, and while it’s not as light as it is in the uk, it is still light outside those hours and I would have thought they’d be able to start earlier? But I also suppose they can’t exhaust the searchers.

DH is on night searches fairly often, particularly if someone is in water. Then there is often a helicopter involved with searchlights and heat seeking equipment. It takes a lot for the team to be stood down but extremely bad weather or unsafe conditions can mean searches have to stop for a while. The first rule is not to make any crisis worse by becoming another casualty, so the safely of any team involved is crucial.

I mentioned this a few pages ago and it's very relevant! Was he out for a walk or was he heading home? There's a big difference. If he was out for a walk surely he'd have indicated to his wife how long he'd be and if he'd return to the beach or head back to the villa. There's so many holes in this story. I can't see how a sensible bloke would set off into a path in the mountains only the locals know or decide to explore some underground tunnels. All on his own. None of what we're being told adds up.

We aren’t being told anything. People make shit up and post it. News, outlets report speculation.

WriterOfWrongs · 08/06/2024 15:16

SabrinaThwaite · 08/06/2024 15:07

@WriterOfWrongs Well that's one theory that's circulating. You'd hope that he'd send a message the authorities to say he's safe though.

What I was thinking, but it wasn’t relevant to the point I was making and is of course just thinking of all the possible hypothetical alternatives to him going up the mountain:

He could have reached his intended location then had a heart attack or other health emergency there, and not be able to let people know. Whoever he was with in this hypothetical situation could have been too scared to yet inform the authorities.

Or on the way to his location he could have been run over or mugged or abducted.

Vettrianofan · 08/06/2024 15:17

Fingers crossed for a good outcome for Dr Mosley and all his loved ones.

"Hiding under the bed" was a euphemism for being at the villa somewhere all the time or nearby to it. I don't believe it has been checked yet, which is usually the first place to look AFAIK.

Think you can stand down, with the police, wife, kids, it’s a given hes not hiding out in the villa, or been stashed in the loft for the last 4 days.

This might be as daft as the comment on the first thread about maybe he’s been taken in by a friendly yiayia and they’ve both lost track of time.

Or the more sinister daftness on the daily telegraph comment of “a disgruntled former dieter” holding him in some Misery style scenario.

Edited

I made the comment about the kindly yaiya out of hope and not daftness. 2 days later, whilst a stretch, it couldn't have been beyond the realms of possibility.

I say this as someone who has lived in Greece most of my adult life and know the kindness of strangers in villages and on the islands, and how disconnected from modern life life in some of these villages can be. I still hope for such an outcome. However daft.

ducktapez · 08/06/2024 15:21

Yep, the media are guilty of either making stuff up or reporting any old tut they're told. I imagine his wife prefers to say as little as possible but whats the point the media reporting all different information?

Was MM heading home or out for a general walk? Did he plan to meet the rest of his party back at the beach where he left them or back at the hotel?

Did he indicate roughly how long he would be? We'd all do the same I'm sure if we were leaving our family on a beach in a foreign land.

Is he definitely staying in a villa owned by the friends who are on holiday with them? If he was ill and hadn't got a clue where he was going, why wouldnt the other bloke accompany him and make sure he got back ok, seeing as he knows the area, assuming he does indeed own a property there.

Whether MM was ill or not, would he decide one minute to spend the day on a beach in shorts, trainers and a polo shirt to suddenly decide to scale a mountain or head underground and explore some dangerous caves, all on his own and with no mobile phone or water.

The media reports are so full of holes its no wonder we're on thread 3 and going round in circles.

CustardySergeant · 08/06/2024 15:10

Are you referencing the post on a Blind Gossip site the other day (that was mentioned in Thread 2)?

No?! I haven’t seen it.

I was saying that there are lots of possibilities (doesn’t mean they’re probable) and we don’t yet know, so a particular poster judging MM for doing a dangerous walk without their phone and water may be moot.

ConsistentlyInconsistant · 08/06/2024 15:21

The abyss doesn't sound good. Doesn't seem like anyone would survive or be found if they ended up down there. Given there's no overland sighting being reported on barren land it seems like a possibility sadly.

Fucking hell, this island is a death trap.

I know. I love how its image has gradually changed over the past 24 hours…

“It’s such a safe place and you couldn’t even lose a child here….just don’t go near the mountain full of vipers and ‘the abyss’….”

quizzys · 08/06/2024 15:10

Police searched the home of Tia Sharpe four times, until they found her poor body in the loft.

Why would he be in the loft?

Ha you're not wrong. I think it's because nobody ever heads up that mountain unless you're a serious hiker, not a 67 year old bloke equipped only with an umbrella, so they assumed all the main roadways were impossible to get lost on.

SaddleUpAndMascarpone · 08/06/2024 15:28

Here's my guess ..

He wanted to go for a walk .. so he wasn't trying to get on a bus - he was asking the bus driver for directions ..

The driver waved his hand in a general direction, MM misread the direction and came to the marina where the road stopped ..

He decided to climb up the hill so he could get his bearings from the top.

I know this doesn't help, but I'm just trying to make sense of it.

Yep, I knew nothing of the "Abyss" either. Frightening.

MidnightMeltdown · 08/06/2024 15:32

It'll be dark there soon. It's starting to look like he won't be found 😔

Fucking hell, this island is a death trap.

Quite the contribution. It is a very small island in the south Aegean sea that has fortunately fallen under an unintended international spotlight, while well meaning teams scramble to find a man.

Last time I checked it hadn't claimed to be anything other than a small Greek island - who, by the most part, are very low crime places to be. Rough, natural terrain and open water is part of their landscape.

Oaktree55 · 08/06/2024 14:20

Omg it’s late 30’sc in shade, humid, real feel apparently mid 40’sc, he’s not a young healthy man who knows the terrain backwards. You don’t randomly take short cuts across rugged terrain in unknown areas abroad with no means of communication.

Its irresponsible/irrational behaviour!

What makes you say he randomly took a shortcut, no one apart from. MM always to know the reason for taking the path he did. You literally have no clue what his thoughts were

Puygo · 08/06/2024 15:36

I can’t believe there is still no trace found. I thought (hoped) we would hear something today

Yes I think so too. Whether he was trying to walk home or just going for a general walk, I think he walked up the path from the marina to the mountainous bit, and something happened up there. He fell or had a heart attack or heat stroke. Something like that.
I can just imagine myself going up there for the views and exploring a bit.
There's also a part of me that wonders if he decided to have a swim when he got to marina and got in to trouble in the water.
However, the CCTV shows him heading towards the mountain path.

This whole thread is pointless - unless we are about to launch a Mumsnet search party, but it is achieving something good; I'm off to a Greek island next week and this has reminded me that I MUST drink plenty and make sure someone knows where I am at all times.

So if nothing else good comes from the thread, there's that.

Also don't forget your phone and take an umbrella for shade
