Screams to me he felt absolutely fine and was walking at his normal speed

I actually quoted the wrong poster and was referring to the mayors comments about it.

As to why he didn't stop for a drink or a rest in the village, I wonder if he by then had realised he didn't have his phone and that his wife might be worried? Maybe he thought he needed to just hurry back? I don't know really, just a thought.

His wife says he went for a walk. Likely , like my husband and a lot of people I know, he was walking at his normal speed when going somewhere, and didn’t stop as he simply didn’t wish a drink

quizzys · 08/06/2024 15:05

"Hiding under the bed" was a euphemism for being at the villa somewhere all the time or nearby to it. I don't believe it has been checked yet, which is usually the first place to look AFAIK.

dicokno · 08/06/2024 15:02

Well that's a bit of a daft comment isn't it? Hiding under the bed??

And also the fact that his wife had obviously gone back to the accomodation and rang the police. Honestly, what goes through folks minds?!

ducktapez · 08/06/2024 15:05

Westfacing · 08/06/2024 15:01

The Guardian is quoting his wife as saying "He left the beach to go for a walk..."

So he wasn't heading off to walk back to the house - which means all the talk of attempting to walk for hours in that heat, taking the bus road, or not the bus road, short cut or not, has been a waste of time!

I mentioned this a few pages ago and it's very relevant! Was he out for a walk or was he heading home? There's a big difference. If he was out for a walk surely he'd have indicated to his wife how long he'd be and if he'd return to the beach or head back to the villa. There's so many holes in this story. I can't see how a sensible bloke would set off into a path in the mountains only the locals know or decide to explore some underground tunnels. All on his own. None of what we're being told adds up.

SabrinaThwaite · 08/06/2024 15:07

@WriterOfWrongs Well that's one theory that's circulating. You'd hope that he'd send a message the authorities to say he's safe though.

Are you quite well???

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 08/06/2024 15:08

I wonder if he's like me and just doesn't 'get' thirsty?

I know that I have to be careful in places with high heat and humidity , and I usually tell everyone I'm with to remind me to drink, because it just doesn't cross my mind and I don't feel thirst. But I am aware that this could cause me to become extremely dehydrated, whereupon symptoms of confusion could set in without my even knowing that I AM dehydrated.

KNOWING what can happen is very different to actually HAVING it happen, because once you are disorientated then being dehydrated is the furthest thing from your mind. So he might not even have thought he needed to stop for a drink - when, in fact, it was the very thing he SHOULD have done.

This is most definitely not a gathering of the great minds of the western world.

This just illustrates how utterly futile all the speculation is!
We simply don't have enough information.

People are seizing on brief soundbites to build or disprove theories. It's pointless!

It really isn’t, is it?

Greece is two hours ahead isn’t it. It’s not great it’s 5pm there and still nothing,

They may have found him but just not informed the media yet.

Police searched the home of Tia Sharpe four times, until they found her poor body in the loft.

CustardySergeant · 08/06/2024 15:10

WriterOfWrongs · 08/06/2024 14:50

You can’t properly criticise ‘behaviour’ until we know what happened and what the ‘behaviour’ exactly was.

Speaking hypothetically and playing Devil’s Advocate, if say he’d not gone up the mountain but deliberately but secretly headed somewhere that was on safe, flat ground, then his decision not to have his phone would make sense and he might not have needed to take any water.

Are you referencing the post on a Blind Gossip site the other day (that was mentioned in Thread 2)?

headstone · 08/06/2024 15:10

It was reported that he told friends he wasn’t feel well before he set off for the village yet he didn’t stop for a rest or a drink but was filmed striding towards the marina or rocky path. It doesn’t seem like he was in the right frame of mind when he disappeared.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 08/06/2024 15:10

This whole thread is pointless - unless we are about to launch a Mumsnet search party, but it is achieving something good; I'm off to a Greek island next week and this has reminded me that I MUST drink plenty and make sure someone knows where I am at all times.

So if nothing else good comes from the thread, there's that.

Er. Ok.

alwaysonadiet1 · 08/06/2024 15:11

@ducktapez Yes, the Telegraph reports The Abyss to be a rocky outcrop not far from Agia Marina. I don't know the area, perhaps the tunnels stretch towards Pedi.

SquirrelSoShiny · 08/06/2024 15:12

I hope he's found safe and well 🙏 It's nice to see how positive his impact has been for so many people.

Of course it's been checked. They wouldn't launch a full on search party without checking he wasn't in his accommodation...

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 08/06/2024 15:12

Unfortunately, I think we know the outcome is dire.

Usually it's the most simple explanation. (Got lost and injured or had a heart attack whilst out and about.

There's not much use in any of trying to come up with meaningless theories.

First thing that is done when someone is reported missing is a search of the home

It’s also been reported he just went for a walk. So none of us know.

@Oaktree55 what are you hoping to achieve with your continued posts?

@Oaktree55 clearly just wants to show us all what an unpleasant maniac she is.

Does anyone know what the extreme heat does to the scent a sniffer dog would follow? I know a dog can follow a scent that's up to three weeks old in right conditions (presumably over vegetation, not rocks) - but what can be followed in those conditions?

IRRC, high humidity helps dogs follow scent (hangs around better).

But the dogs themselves cannot work safely in high temperatures - dogs don't sweat, and panting is less effective in humidity and they will not risk the dogs' lives (they get heatstroke rather more easily than humans, and just as disastrously)
