Having known a family go through something similar, I know how much the speculation and other crap written on social media upset them at the time and still does to this day, as it’s all still there. Their situation didn’t have a good outcome and they are dealing with that to this day, and always will be. You lot won’t be. You’ll forget and move on. When another families situation arises, you’ll do the same again.

I know that other families our friends spoke to had also found it upsetting. Imagine having something traumatic happen in your life, and being thrust into the media, with random people commenting on every aspect of your life, pulling it apart. It’s horrendous.

It made things worse for our friends, they believe that as well as seeing the best of humanity in those that actually helped them, they also saw the worst of humanity with people speculating. They are not only damaged by their loss, but also by seeing how low people acted.

Yes I can see very clearly what this poster is saying.

It is normal to be concerned for a man and a family in this situation and to want to follow the story. However, I think there is a difference between trying to piece together a jigsaw of facts we have been given - such as path routings and movements- and conjecture about his mental state or what he might/ might not have intended. I think that’s where some posts start to overstep and leave things online that will haunt and hurt.

Somuch · 09/06/2024 09:14

Oh bless him, so incredibly sad

LIZS · 09/06/2024 09:15
Sad
SallyWD · 09/06/2024 09:15

Not surprising but incredibly sad. Thoughts are with the family.

VariantHela · 09/06/2024 09:15

My husband is Greek, they are saying the body has been identified according to the Greek media. RIP very sad x

yumyumyumy · 09/06/2024 09:15

Let's not bloody speculate about an imaginary argument ffs. Have some respect. Rip Michael, his poor family.

Aquarius1234 · 09/06/2024 09:15

Found in the sea edge ?

MyTattooIsBetterThanYours · 09/06/2024 09:16

That’s very sad.

ActualCannibalShiaLeBeouf · 09/06/2024 09:16

Manhere2024 · 09/06/2024 09:00

From Twitter

it says found in a cave on BBC news.
RIP Michael, genuinely upset at this news

Aquarius1234 · 09/06/2024 09:17

I think it this probably happened yesterday. Who knows.

theotherfossilsister · 09/06/2024 09:17

Well, that's it I guess. How sad. I guess it's good him family know.

hurlyburlygirly · 09/06/2024 09:17

Desperately sad outcome. His poor poor family and friends.

ChickyBricky · 09/06/2024 09:17

Oh no! He's like everyone's favourite uncle, and he's helped so many of us. There will be sincere national mourning for the loss of this dear man.

Delatron · 09/06/2024 09:17

Very sad but at least the family have closure. Reports are differing to where he was found. One says in the cave, one in the sea and one on the beach. I do hope he had a medical episode and it was quick for him.

Hiddentory · 09/06/2024 09:17

Oh I feel a little tearful. I have been avidly checking the news since his disappearance was first announced. It was inevitable this would be the end result, but while they are still looking, you can't help but hope. He seemed a lovely man and his advice has helped many people. RIP Michael.

Aquarius1234 · 09/06/2024 09:18

Sounds like a walk all over the island. Bet it was unimaginable hot there.

Thislittlepiggylikeschocolate · 09/06/2024 09:19

So sad 😞

EdithBond · 09/06/2024 09:19

LefkaOri · 09/06/2024 09:06

Yes, I speak and read Greek, his body has been found and identified according to the news here in Greece.

Awful news. His poor family. I wonder if it he was found yesterday evening and embargoed/announced at 9am today. A few posters were saying yesterday that UK news reports changed yesterday evening. Would make sense to give the family/authorities overnight to process/prepare.

Cantdoitallperfectly · 09/06/2024 09:19

RIP
I really respected him as a journalist and he always seemed like such a genuine person.
Thinking of his poor family

Chocolatelight · 09/06/2024 09:19

Very sad

GoingDownLikeBHS · 09/06/2024 09:19

That's a shame, he had a good life but many more years ahead of him. So his family will probably never know why he set off like that.

Zonder · 09/06/2024 09:19

So very sad. His poor family.

TakeOnFlea · 09/06/2024 09:20

@Aquarius1234 stop speculating. It's not "all over the island". It's just on the other side of the cove. One simple wrong turning. Just stop it now.

OvaHere · 09/06/2024 09:21

How very sad. The Times report says he was found by journalists.

I wish there could have been a different outcome.
