There has been nothing on BBC and other news sites for about 5 hours. This made me wonder if there has been a development (either good or bad) and that they are dealing with that before deciding what to say to the media.

Or did you maybe not wonder that it was dark so there is nothing to update ?

I just find this such an odd thought. I know plenty of folks who walk fast, and yes in the heat on holiday, and Mosely himself said he walks fast to get his heart rate up. Do folks normally just stroll. Amazed at the folks who can’t get their heads round anyone walking at a brisk pace when it’s hot.

sadly the longer this goes on, the more it becomes like the Nicola Bulley case, where folks go nuts speculating over every little thing.

it’s now got so bad apparently his pace of walking is an issue.

Ah ok, it was the only suss thing. But as you said when alone, people do walk fast.

I am sorry if this sounds grim but there are a lot of raptors on Symi, If he is in the open and staying still, they will be circling to take a closer look and potentially guiding rescuers.

Appalling that you found the need to type this about someone who may still be alive and whose family may read.

It hasn't been dark for 5/6 hours. No need to be snarky.

Calm down. Similarly, the mayor of the island has said there’s a lot of snakes in Symi. I take it you feel he was wrong to say that as well?

I always go with my gut instinct and there was just something odd about the quickness of his walking through the town in the extreme heat and on holiday.

My DH was a great walker, felt short changed if he didn’t walk at least 6 miles a day, it was usually 8-10 plus a bike ride. He really strode out and had to remember to slow down when I was with him.

They are two hours ahead, and the point remains if there is no update it’s because there is nothing to say. If there was, some onlooker would have leaked it, there’d be images of emergency services or of him,

so there is no development. Ok??

I found @PadstowGirl ’s post sensitively written and factual.

It’s something the S&R leaders may have already warned the family about.

That direction looks absolutely bonkers to attempt. It looks really steep, rocky and no clear path. Surely he wouldn't have gone up there?!

You wouldnt have thought so. But I would expect if cctv saw him going up there then it was checked later on and no sign of him coming back so in that case we can assume he continued either up the mountain or tracked the more coastal route towards the only signs of life nearby, Agia Marina, though theres no sightings of him going there.

That BBC clip implies he was intending to loop round the peninusla to get back to Symi, but why would anyone sane walk 2 miles in the wrong direction, to then have to walk say 3 miles back to get to where you're going, up a mountain, in 40 degree heat, peak daytime, armed with nothing more than a brolly. Doesnt make any sense and even if it did, where on earth is he. 12 hours or so of multiple search teams, dogs, helicopter, drones and no sight.

Did you, how very odd. And clearly you’re not family?

Me too.

Some people just love telling people off.

Mygosh · 08/06/2024 21:18

Does anyone know if this is a regular holiday destination that MM and his wife visit? As their friends own the house they are staying in, I'd assume they'd been before. And if so, he would know the route very well. Generally in a tourist area the locals speak some English and if you are lost, they will point you in the right direction.

It's really sad that people just vanish/go missing. I hope his family get some answers soon.

I thought raptors were extinct...

No joke though, it doesn't look good.

Raptors? Owls, falcons, hawks ,kites, eagles, buzzards etc… not extinct.

One ( of the many) things that I’ve found strange about this whole situation is the original photo from the beach. I know we are all different, but if I was taking a photo of my Dh on the first day of our holiday it would be more staged. Smiles, nice back drop, etc. It just seems strange that his wife took a photo of him staring into a backpack. Perhaps, she had a funny feeling that not all was right with him. Just a thought ( or another wacko theory).

I would think it was a photo of everyone and the scenery and this is just zoomed in on. I don't think there's anything more to read into it.

CurrentHun · 08/06/2024 21:23

I think the raptor point was well made and things like that will obviously be a help to focus a search. It’s not insensitive to say so.

MM’s poor family will just want him to be found, and if sadly he is very unwell, or he has been injured, or he has passed away, then this type of observation could help to hasten the rescuers locating him. Obviously we are all really hoping that there will be good news coming from this awful missing person situation.

How is this odd?

No, I’m not family, but I’ve had stories about a family member and speculation about where they are and what they’ve done the on the front pages of newspapers and on social media. Have you?

Ok.
Velociraptors.

PenelopeFeatherington · 08/06/2024 21:25

Also, if your loved one was acting weirdly I don't think your first thought would be to take a picture of them and then wave them off to go walking on their own.

There really wasn't. Honestly now. Why are people reading so much into completely normal behaviour!

plus one of his podcast episodes was about the health benefits of walking at a fast pace. He would have likely made it a personal habit.
