God this thread is hideous. Stop speculating. It's really unseemly.

Once again. Why are you clicking on it, if not to read speculation?

Aquarius1234 · 08/06/2024 20:43

The planned wasn't suicide tho. It was just to island hop alone.

CottageGardens · 08/06/2024 20:40

Why are you on this thread? For the gossip presumably?

To observe the great gathering of course.

CottageGardens · 08/06/2024 20:44

Could have done a Stephen Fry I suppose....

ManilowBarry · 08/06/2024 20:45

The search for Dr Michael Mosley is now a “race against time” as firefighters probe a cave system known by residents as “the abyss”.
The cave network, which lies off a picturesque beach, is made up of dozens of tunnels that can quickly fill with seawater, according to locals.

“It’s like a deep system of tunnels, but it is full of water and can spread for kilometers. There is a reason they call it ‘The Abyss’. There is something very strange going on,” a waiter told The Daily Telegraph.

Eh?

I'm here to discuss the different news reports, and goodness knows there's plenty and there's a lot of inconsistencies. Shame his wife isn't giving more away but i can see why she isn't. Would be good to know if he did say he wasn't feeling well or if he was feeling OK, and did he say he would meet them back at the beach or back at the villa.

@ducktapezwhat a heartless callous post.

Could have done a Stephen Fry I suppose....

Would an island of very limited dimensions not be an odd place to try to go missing however?

Just adding this thought to the great gathering …

WriterOfWrongs · 08/06/2024 20:45

Eh?

It was another theory.

PadstowGirl · 08/06/2024 20:48

I am sorry if this sounds grim but there are a lot of raptors on Symi, If he is in the open and staying still, they will be circling to take a closer look and potentially guiding rescuers.

Aquarius1234 · 08/06/2024 20:49

The speculation on this thread is awful, especially about suicide. This is a real person with a family who must be desperately worried.

And you don't think his poor family will already be speculating about all the same things? It's entirely normal behaviour to speculate when trying to make sense of something that makes no sense. The longer this goes on the more it will happen. Everyone is asking themselves the same questions, including the one about the potential for him to have taken his own life. It's an awful thought and I think it's quite unlikely, but it's not beyond the realms of possibility. We are all adults, we can speak the words out loud. It's not going to change anything about the truth, whatever that is.

Besides, I imagine his family are too busy to be reading threads on Mumsnet, so don't you worry about it.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 08/06/2024 20:51

I genuinely don't know tbh. I'm really sad about this. He seems like a genuinely lovely guy and I hate to think of him injured and slowly dying somewhere.

What I don't want to read is a load of people deciding it must have been suicide based on how quickly he was walking on CCTV or based on nothing at all. That to me is really unseemly.

QforCucumber · 08/06/2024 20:54

I do wonder, as for another poster, if the lack of update on sky news for a few hours is maybe due to a finding that needs to be removed/confirmed and released, I was hoping for a positive outcome today I really was

Worth reposting this short BBC clip for what the terrain is like where they're searching.

I always go with my gut instinct and there was just something odd about the quickness of his walking through the town in the extreme heat and on holiday.

MaryMack · 08/06/2024 20:58

I'm losing hope that he will be found alive and well. Too much time has gone by. The abyss sounds terrifying and that may be where he is.

I’ve been looking to try to find a hopeful possibility.

You kind of wince through a reading of the known facts to prepare yourself for an outcome, possibly an unfortunate one. But somehow what might have happened ( factually) is less intrusive than opining on what his state of mind might have been. That feels as though it crosses a line into something more private.

I just find this such an odd thought. I know plenty of folks who walk fast, and yes in the heat on holiday, and Mosely himself said he walks fast to get his heart rate up. Do folks normally just stroll. Amazed at the folks who can’t get their heads round anyone walking at a brisk pace when it’s hot.

sadly the longer this goes on, the more it becomes like the Nicola Bulley case, where folks go nuts speculating over every little thing.

it’s now got so bad apparently his pace of walking is an issue.

That direction looks absolutely bonkers to attempt. It looks really steep, rocky and no clear path. Surely he wouldn't have gone up there?!

There has been nothing on BBC and other news sites for about 5 hours. This made me wonder if there has been a development (either good or bad) and that they are dealing with that before deciding what to say to the media.

Swollenandgrouchy · 08/06/2024 21:03

Is the “lack of development” in past few hours not just to do with it getting dark in Symi?

It’s shocking isn’t it. The speculation.

now it’s odd to go for a walk when you’re on holiday with friends, your pace of walk has to be questioned, right through to was their tension with frienfs, did he harm himself.

it literally is the frenzy like it was over Nicola bulley. Nothing has been learned, and I’d hazard a guess many are the same people.

This, or news sites often not being updated frequently at weekends?

Indeed, and with Catherine when she was on medical leave
