Totally fair enough, so in that case i raise you this.... where on earth is he?!

How would any of us know unless we are there, searching, and find him?

headstone · 08/06/2024 16:33

I think there is such a stigma about any form of mental illness or crisis , or even heat delerium. People can’t handle this type of speculation. Anyone actually involved in searching for a missing person would consider their mental state at the time of disappearance.
There was someone up thread that mentioned he could have got lost through no fault of his own, suggesting a mental crisis or poor judgment made this situation his fault or his families fault. It doesn’t.

His family have much bigger things to worry about than what people say on here. Why are you policing what other people post?

I'm not policing I'm asking you why you posted.

I believe that mindless speculation on social media about other people's lives and actions is damaging. It's a practice that values opinion over fact and the drip down to daily life is damaging our children and teens daily.

The comments are here for ever. People devastated by tragedy do find them. Maybe not today but as I said, the comments typed without a seconds thought remain permanently.

To be honest, sadly I know a few blokes who would do this.

My now ex wouldn't have gone up a mountain but what he would have done on a walk into a Greek village is stop and chat for hours on end to locals in a bar or cafe, and have a game of backgammon.

If I'd have got back to the house a few hours later I wouldn't have dreamt of reporting him missing, I'd have assumed he'd be yacking away somewhere.

@Carly944

Ignore their nonsense. We're just discussing the many twists and turns of this bizarre story.

I really would feel ashamed if i was contributing 'nonsense' to this thread.

I simply object to how some posters seem almost giddy in their posting and repeating things that do not need reposting.

Kind of proves my point. This isn't some 99p kindle special.

It’s one thing speculating about where he went. It’s a whole other thing to start on saying there is tension in the group etc. it’s pure bullshit

we went on holiday with a group of friends last year. One of the guys can’t sit still for too long. He often went off for walks on his own. No tension in the group. He liked walking , exploring etc. he never took his mobile.

im astounded anyone would stoop so low as to suggest as he went for a walk there is likely something wrong.

It's not unusual to go for a walk but to go for a walk in that heat is unusual and makes me think he either underestimated the danger or he was already confused from the heat. Or possibly he only meant to go as far as the bus stop. I love walking but today it's 30 degrees where I am and that would already be extremely uncomfortable for me with no shade.

And I repeat - everything posted on all three of these threads is speculation since none of us actually know one single fact bar what has been snapshotted by CCTV. It's totally understandable if you don't want to participate, given how you feel about these threads. In fact your criticism seems wider and would encompass quite a lot of the posts on Mumsnet to be honest. I don't agree with you.

Anyone else notice that the 'CCTV' footage of him walking at Pedi marina appears to be a handheld video? Why does the camera follow him? Why does it zoom in on him? CCTV is controlled and doesn't target people like this unless a person is of interest...Seems weird

I thought exactly the same thing! It doesn’t seem like CCTV footage at all.
I have to say that some of the speculation on here is pretty batshit. It’s like people haven’t learnt anything from Nicola Bulley.

NoSourDough · 08/06/2024 16:29

I have this gut feeling he is still alive, that he fell, broke his leg and is sheltering in a cave. He is a GP so knows how to stay alive. Praying I’m right

I really, really hope you're right.

It has been a long time now, so I'm losing hope this will end happily but there is still some hope.

dicokno · 08/06/2024 16:37

Justrelax · 08/06/2024 16:22

I didn't say it was 'weird behaviour' actually - those are your words. I said he'd only be likely to leave and do a walk alone in that kind of heat if he was unwell or unhappy. You think it's unwell. That does seem to be a worrying detail.

Weird behaviour may be my words. But you implied it was weird behaviour by the way you wrote about it.
I also don't "think" he was unwell. I quoted two scenarios which were mentioned in the press. One of those was that he had said he was unwell and was returning to the villa. This was then later changed to his wife said he was going for a walk.
I have no idea what the reason for him leaving the beach was.
I just don't think it necessarily means he was unhappy or unwell as you said. It could have been the second of the scenarios mentioned in the press that he simply went off for a walk and not because he was unhappy but because he just fancied a walk!

Just watched the BBC report from the area. Why would any sane person scramble up that barren rocky slope in 40oC heat?

Some people are more prone to keep on moving rather than waiting .. maybe he felt confident that he could manage the walk

Ihavenoclu · 08/06/2024 16:41

I kept waking up last night to check my phone to see if he had been found. Praying so hard he will be found and ok.

Tcateh · 08/06/2024 16:41

People please stop being wankers.

Every bloody time I check on this thread I'm scrolling through shite.

What are you hoping to find? There are other places to look for actual news. What are you expecting people to be discussing?

NoSourDough · 08/06/2024 16:43

I think it’s worth pointing out that he is on a “walking” holiday….he may have felt like he could handle the terrain…..and he may have had some water in that rucksack and been prepared.

Lilith666 · 08/06/2024 16:43

Have been following the news on this since he went missing. Really hope that he is found soon, awful for his family.

I posted about this in the second thread wondering if it was a mobile recording of a CCTV screen and a few posters affirmed that this was the case - it is often the quickest and most efficient way to share a CCTV recording ☺️

I think the explanation was it's a phone filming the cctv footage

Carly944 · 08/06/2024 16:46

It's a mobile phone filming the cctv footage.

It was probably the quickest way that they could share it to relevant organisations

Well said, absolutely awful behaviour from some posters. Speculation about the family, you should be ashamed.

It's not a "story" it's a real life situation where people are going through hell.

Most threads on MN are anonymous.

This is a thread about identified, real people.

Of course my concerns extend beyond this specific series of threads. I said stated that expressly. I think posters speculating about real life events like this simply don't want accept that their posting choices may be part of a bigger problem.
