Thread 2 - Michael Mosley missing after disappearing on holiday walk

Following on from thread 1, linked below.

Let's hope the CCTV / sighting in town gives a glimmer of home that he made the walk from the beach to town ok.

Sometimes aircraft don't show on FR24. I think this particularly applies to Helicopters. There are various reasons such as incompatible transponders, or they can be blocked for privacy reasons etc.

I love flight radar and often look to find out what’s flying over. Police helicopters do not show up.

Hikers etc, wouldn’t you double back to town if terrain got very rocky & you were ill equipped?

It depends - sometimes I do head back but sometimes (especially if I've already come a long way) I'll persevere in the belief it will soon improve.

Passiflora2 · 08/06/2024 12:27

Every thread these days ends with nasty, spiteful attacks and put downs. It’s possible to disagree without being unpleasant and rude.

The evidence has changed. It's not the most likely thing that he fell in the sea. It's now looking more likely that he's been overcome by heat or slipped and been injured inland in the mountains.

It is the barest most exposed terrain imaginable, not a forest in the UK.

This is turning into a ‘let’s get at Ilikeadrink’ witch-hunt, so I am now going to go away and let you all find someone else to pick on! I apologised for my original comment, but got picked on for that too! I rest my case!
The whole point of this thread was to say how sad it was that Mr Moseley is missing. How it turned into this constant and unpleasant squabble about me disgusts and saddens me. I thought this was a safe place to go to when I had an opinion to express but it certainly isn’t. I feel let down and victimised. So, thanks for that.

So sorry that you feel like this. You must still feel very raw about your husband. Please take care of yourself.

I don't want to be critical and I know how hard they're all working - however they did know he was walking to Pedi to get a bus yet only focused on the path to Pedi. Then everyone was surprised when two days layers there's CCTV to show he made it to Pedi.
I have no idea why it took 48 hours to find the CCTV but if only they'd seen it earlier!

This was exactly my point and I think the media were complicit as well. It's far easier to sensationalise a clickbait headline of someone "MYSTERIOUSLY DISAPPEARING" on a 1km stretch of coastal path with a drop to the ocean on one side, than something more banal such as a 1hr walk to another village which was the real story. On the first day of reporting, the media entirely glossed over the fact that he was heading to Symi, a good 1 hour away from the beach. They made it seem like he was only walking 20mins from St Nicholas to Pedi on the small path used by tourists and vanished into thin air. With these sort of headlines, the rescuers and police no doubt felt obliged to search the first stretch more thoroughly.

Sightings in Pedi were largely dismissed or claimed to be false. I'm still a bit puzzled by the DM mention of that man spotted at a restaurant around 4:30pm who bore an "uncanny resemblance" with identical clothing but was debunked not to be him. The wording they used was very odd and seems to imply they know more than they're allowed to release. His wife is searching the wooded trails south of the main road to Symi which implies she may have reason to believe he was in Pedi later in the day.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 08/06/2024 12:29

What? Did you mean to quote my post?

GameOfJones · 08/06/2024 12:29

Still hoping against hope he will be found alive. There are instances of people who have survived against great odds. I do hope he is one of them.

Me too. And I really wish people would stop bickering at each other on here, it's awful and derails a thread where most of us are worried about him.

It was because you wrote this, shaming his family in their time of distress:

If my husband said he felt unwell and was going back to the holiday home (some distance away and involving long walk or the need for transport), there’s NO way on earth I would have let him go alone. What were his family and so-called friends thinking to let him feel poorly without taking care of him. They should be ashamed.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 08/06/2024 12:31

Let it go, barleyrice. You're being unpleasant to a few of us now. This thread is about a missing man and his family, not point scoring.

Well, you said his family should be ashamed, so there's bound to be a bit of kick back from that, especially whilst he's still missing and the poor people will be having the worst days of their lives for something that isn't in any way their fault. It's a shame that having that pointed out makes you feel like a victim, but the passive aggressive 'thanks for that' doesn't help much either.

Excuse me, where have I been unpleasant?

I disagreed with you. And I pointed out a level of disingenuousness in that last post.

Why is this not a valid comment?

Theweepywillow · 08/06/2024 12:34

There are so many people searching now, locals and tourists alike, they are swarming all over. If he is there, they will find him. If he isn’t they won’t. Ie if he went into the water or purposefully left.

BettyUnderswoob · 08/06/2024 12:34

Was away from phone for a while; fully expected news when I came back, but still nothing. It’s looking less likely that there’d be a positive outcome; I hope I’m wrong. His poor family.

You’re derailing the thread. You’ve had your say, let it go and stick to the topic in hand.

So what it’s a valid point. The wife is a Dr, knew he had medical issues/episodes it was a little irresponsible to say the least!

I am in no way, shape, or form "derailing the thread"!

or purposefully left.

Highly unlikely or he would have told the authorities when he saw the drama?

I don't understand why they didn't just call the water taxi back to take him back, it seems bizarre.

User14March · 08/06/2024 12:37

It’s now not possible he’s in the sea if he took this path (?) So this can be comfortably ruled out. Surely with so many looking it’s impossible he’s not found v soon.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 08/06/2024 12:37

It's not a taxi like that. It has a timetable.

DiscoBeat · 08/06/2024 12:38

I wonder if there are any wells. I'm sure the locals will know where, if so

Watchkeys · 08/06/2024 12:38

His family are not responsible for him. He's a grown man, responsible for himself.

It looks like he's felt completely capable of making it back alone, otherwise he wouldn't have set out. Adults don't need their hands held. It looks like he's taken a wrong turning en route, there was no bus when they all expected there to be one, and he's made his decisions alone.

We've all taken wrong turnings in life that have led us down paths we neither wanted nor expected.

There's no need for blame, guilt, or shame, on anyone's part.
