Following on from thread 1, linked below.

Let's hope the CCTV / sighting in town gives a glimmer of home that he made the walk from the beach to town ok.

If someone gave him duff directions then hopefully they'll come forward. On the face of it, it was a 30-40 minute walk to Symi along the road.

This all reminds me of that horrible Nicola Bully incident. He has such a nice manner about him. I bloody hope he’s alright

Why does it remind you of that??

What do they mean that's all they are allowed to do?? By who?

The companies that do the searches

The police and the rescue teams have said that they will do five days of searching,

then they won't do any more due to funds, and due to needing the resources to do other things.

That's their standard time frame for a search

I'm thinking about his family so much. They must be sick to their stomachs with not knowing.

Same here 😔

But even that path was a 20-30 min walk which is taken by many tourists, I’m not remotely confused. Don’t be so bloody patronising.

The mountain route from pedi to the villa is said to be at least a couple of hours for someone young and fit.

It’s not exactly free, is it.. But it’s world news, so someone will take over.

SalmonAndHorseradish · 07/06/2024 20:53

Yahoo News now reporting he was caught on CCTV entering the mountain path:

'The search for Mr Mosley was described as a “race against time” as it switched to a treacherous mountainous path.

CCTV footage from a house at the edge of Pedi’s small marina at the far end of the village showed the presenter entering the path at about 2pm on Wednesday. One of the rescuers told PA that Mr Mosley’s decision was “inexplicable”, as it would have taken a fit young person three hours to walk to the port.

“The path is not easy to follow, if he took a wrong turn, he would be lost. He could be anywhere, It is a race against time,” she said.

The little-used path goes inland rather than following the coast.'

‘Everybody is looking for him,’ says mayor’s daughter amid Michael Mosley search

Mika Papakalodouka said ‘a lot of’ residents on the Greek island of Symi had joined the search using their own boats.

Why on earth would he choose to walk that way in that heat?

Snowdrop80 · 07/06/2024 20:54

Following. I really hope he is found alive but it’s looking very unlikely at this point.

But the island is only 25 square miles?? How long would it take to search?

StrawPony · 07/06/2024 20:55

I’ve just been reading a few articles on him. His father died aged 74 after a host of health problems, this is why MM got so interested in healthy living/diets, to avoid ending up like his father. He has helped loads of people achieve healthier lifestyles, he is mainly responsible for getting fasting into the mainstream. Still hoping for a good outcome.

Maybe he thought it was a shorter path than it was

Carly944 · 07/06/2024 20:56

Horrible to know you're leaving him out in the dark.

Someone very close to me went missing for a month.

The worst part were the nights, not knowing where he was at all

ActualCannibalShiaLeBeouf · 07/06/2024 20:56

Delatron · 07/06/2024 17:49

I just think if he had taken himself off somewhere he wouldn’t want all these people searching in this heat. And the poor dog. He seems like a kind, empathetic man.

Dog? I didn't know he had a dog with him? This hasn't been mentioned in anything I have read

I was driven to a very dangerous area and told to hand over all cash/valuables or I'd be dumped there, I'd have been unlikely to make it out of that particular area alive. I handed everything over except my passport and was dumped at the airport thank god!

I should add, this wasn't a taxi I'd picked up on the road either. I'd been staying at a reputable hotel and asked them to call the taxi for me, I thought I'd be safe doing that 🤦

The sniffer dog that is part of the search for him.

nobeans · 07/06/2024 20:58

His body is used to fasting so I have hope

That person means the sniffer dog that's searching for him.

New to the island and naive? Confused in the heat? Desperation as he was feeling ill and wanted to get back to the accommodation and the bus hadn't shown up?

I'm a bit perplexed by the 'It's a tiny island he can't be lost/where can he possibly be' outcry versus this sudden appearance of a 'little used path' on the way back to his accommodation where it would be 'easy to get lost'.

Edited

Yeah but who's saying no that's it. 5 days. Seems like it should be based on the facts of the individual case

Yeah we know it was a treacherous road.

How would he know.

He probably thought it looked like the start of a normal road.

He had no phone to check anything, he can't ask the locals as there's the language barrier, there's no buses ,.

I just saw a news article where it said " the authorities confirm that they will do a search for five days, and then that's it".

StrawPony · 07/06/2024 21:04

If he has been taken ill/ had a fall, hopefully he is near a stream and shade. Now the search area has been narrowed down, he will be located tomorrow hopefully.

JessyCarr · 07/06/2024 21:05

The Yahoo News story about the mountain path (in identical words to the Mirror) doesn’t quote any source other than “one of the rescuers”. Is it reliable?
