This is awful news hope he is found safe and well

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 06/06/2024 16:21

I’m partly starting this thread because friends are on holiday in eg Rhodes right now and you never know who else is on holiday, scrolling MN and in Symi and saw Michael. Whether that’s yesterday or today.

Plus I think he’s an amazing person. I didn’t know a huge amount about him before but I loved his C4 programmes this year where he was not only informative, funny, wanted to help but was also surprisingly un judgmental of the people he was helping.

We are in the same age group as he is and DH would go out without his phone if he was going out not far, if he is going on a long walk then he would take it for photos and maps. It wouldn't cross his mind he might need to take it for any safety reasons if he was just going out about a mile away and he knew where he was. I always take my phone if alone on holiday walks but not always at home to pop out.

Tamrastarr · 06/06/2024 16:25

Really hope he is ok. I really admire him. he is one of the few people on TV that imparts credible and sensible advice. Everything he says makes sense.

mitogoshi · 06/06/2024 16:25

@BeaRF75

Unless you happen to be on Symi, Rhodes or elsewhere in Greece and spot him, and it turned out he deliberately has "disappeared" in that case your vigilance would help his family. At the moment nobody knows anything. I'm hoping he needed space for a few days and is fine.

SpockUppet · 06/06/2024 16:25

He comes across as a really lovely person on TV. I hope he's found alive and well (or nothing more than a sprained ankle!).

I think we can all firmly say that this is not the case..

All this ghoulish speculation about a person that (presumably) none of the posters know is extremely bizarre, tbh.
Nothing to do with any of us, and none of our business.

it is our business because he is well liked, he is in the public eye, and people are concerned

Do you not understand concern for fellow humans, which posts so you class a goulish? Posters are discussing possible things that might have happened that's all

MabelMaybe · 06/06/2024 16:29

Anyone else found they have an advert for the Fast 800 recipe book appearing alongside this thread? Very unfortunate.

I love his Just one thing podcasts. It seems such an odd thing to happen to someone but I guess a slip on a rocky path would just be an out of the blue thing to happen to you.

BobnLen · 06/06/2024 16:29

He is a popular figure and it's one of the main stories on the news, if it wasn't D Day it would probably be top, of course people are going to talk about it.

Seems incredibly unlikely. Normal people who aren’t suffering from serious mental health issues don’t go off for “space”, sparking a giant search operation and worrying their families sick.

Pollipops1 · 06/06/2024 16:31

Jeez. Some people go out without their phones, some don't. There's no right or wrong. Sure, it might be safer to take it, but we don't all do 'the best thing' at all times.

I find the whole “well I would have done this” etc distasteful. But I suppose people need to moralise and reassure themselves.

Willmafrockfit · 06/06/2024 16:35

many of us are reasoning that leaving your phone behind is a great mental health attitude.
and thinking perhaps he had the same attitude.

I’m not saying it’s common but a man I used to work with went missing when he was out on a bike ride. He turned up a few weeks later in Australia, having gone off for time to think as he’d found out his wife was having an affair. A horrible thing to do to his family who all thought he was lying dead in a ditch somewhere. Not at all saying anything similar has happened here but just that it is slightly possible he’s gone off for space.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/06/2024 16:41

I hope there's good news soon. Awful for his family.

Re people saying whether they take their phone with them on holiday or not - I think in most cases people are mentioning this not so much because they are saying 'I would have done this, everyone else is wrong' as 'I do this for the following reasons'. It might make some people re-assess that decision for future occasions.

My husband and I are a similar age to Dr Mosley and would never go on a tricky walk like that without at least one charged phone between us. I wouldn't be looking at the phone while walking, it would be purely to use as a phone in an emergency and to take photos.

gofigure5 · 06/06/2024 16:42

I'm praying he is found and well.

The phone things is curious, though. If he wanted to 'have a break from it', it would make more sense not to take it to the beach. Perhaps he and the friends had a lunchtime drink and he decided to walk back, forgetting his phone (rather than leaving it on purpose)?

Cattyisbatty · 06/06/2024 16:42

Oh no, haven’t seen the news all day - just d-day stuff this morning and I’ve been at work. I really hope he’s found alive and well, he’s a good man.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 06/06/2024 16:43

Poor man. It doesn’t sound good does it 😔

HelloMama · 06/06/2024 16:43

I saw it was reported that he was walking with friends but turned back when he realised he'd left his phone on the beach. I wish him well and hope he's found safe soon.

So what though? Why do people constantly need to say “I wouldn’t have done that”.

Being interested and concerned is natural.

Trying to read something into the fact he didn't have his phone on him is just frankly distasteful.

But surely you’d know your family and friends would be worried about you?

I hope that's true as you'd think it would make the search area smaller

haddockfortea · 06/06/2024 16:46

All this speculation about the phone is ridiculous. Sometimes people just forget to take it.
