If I’m going out whether walking or not my phone always comes with me.

Unless you are Michael Mosley, that's of zero relevance.

Marinel · 06/06/2024 15:58

It doesn't sound good if they've been searching for a while and haven't found him. But fingers crossed.

I am surprised he didn't take his phone with him. I go out walking every day and always take my phone, that's a big part of what a mobile phone is for, to be able to contact someone in an emergency. For a peaceful walk with no pings, just turn it off.

RoachFish · 06/06/2024 16:00

@Marinel I don't take my phone with me on my dog walks unless I have a coat with pockets, so from April - October I pretty much never carry my phone if I go for a walk. I don't think it's that uncommon. If he just left it on the beach though that indicates that he probably forgot it and it wasn't intentional.

Watchkeys · 06/06/2024 16:01

Jeez. Some people go out without their phones, some don't. There's no right or wrong. Sure, it might be safer to take it, but we don't all do 'the best thing' at all times.

facelace · 06/06/2024 16:02

He's very much in to wellbeing. May have felt it was beneficial to hike without a phone so he could have no distractions, focus on nature etc. I often leave my phone at home because it's better for my mental health. I can imagine him thinking the same.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with this.

Agree with a PP that it'll be sadly ironic if true

From news reports so far, it sounds like he did take his phone out with him from where he was staying and then went to the beach - with his phone - with other people. It seems like he then left the beach without his phone.

ComputerInitiateJump · 06/06/2024 16:03

This is really worrying. I can't imagine what his family are going through 😔

Feelsodrained · 06/06/2024 16:04

If he fell off a cliff then whether or not he had his phone would make no difference. It’s likely to have been damaged in the fall or by the water. It’s not like he went for a hike into the wilderness - 1km is a little over half a mile.

marshmallowmix · 06/06/2024 16:05

oh gosh hope he is found soon...

Ellemeg82 · 06/06/2024 16:06

Only just seen this news. How frightening for her family. What a mystery.
Hoping he is found.

Ellemeg82 · 06/06/2024 16:06

*THE family (not her)

Ndujauser · 06/06/2024 16:07

Awful for any family to have to go through this, but to be in the media spotlight as well must be so grim.
I’ve been to Symi a few times, and the interior of the island is a pretty inhospitable place. It’s not a big area, but once you’re off the path it’s hard to find your way back.

BeaRF75 · 06/06/2024 16:10

All this ghoulish speculation about a person that (presumably) none of the posters know is extremely bizarre, tbh.
Nothing to do with any of us, and none of our business.

Me too, you can always stick it on Do Not Disturb. It's invaluable in an emergency

JayAlfredPrufrock · 06/06/2024 16:12

Listened to his Just One Thing this morning then read he was missing.

He’s such a lovely comforting man.

It's relevant because it would have made him easier to find whatever his reasons for leaving it behind.

You're not interested but you came on the thread anyway?

TerrysCIockworkOrange · 06/06/2024 16:13

People saying he only went 1km from St Nicholas Beach to Pedi, my interpretation of the news reports thus far is that they've said he was walking to the centre of the island but was last seen in Pedi, thus his route is potentially much longer and would involve inland paths

Oh don't be so sanctimonious, you even opened and wrote on the thread! He's extremely well liked and respected, we can all be concerned about someone even if we don't 'know' them

RoachFish · 06/06/2024 16:14

@BeaRF75 He is a very popular public figure, it is not bizarre that people are talking about him going missing. Even if he doesn't know who we are, we can still have a positive perception of him.

It’s not ghoulish speculation - people are just concerned and being realistic about the possibilities considering the location and how long it has been

Hippywannabe · 06/06/2024 16:16

I really like him and his tv programmes. Fingers crossed they find him.

Fair point, but do you think that in this case people are talking it through because MM has had a real positive influence over a great many lives, and is genuinely admired and liked?

I’d actually suggest that his disappearance is in the public interest because he’s a public figure. It is of course very sad and worrying news. Many posters here are writing lovely, supportive messages and conveying a sense of empathy to his family, rather than speculating. I wish his family strength and comfort, and I hope the outcome here is positive. I really like him and think he’s done a lot to raise awareness of the state of public health in Britain and to educate people on how to live healthier lives. Will keep him and his family in my thoughts.
