Just that really. Will he be found?

@4fingerKitKat Life360 is a very good app to have on each of your phones if you want to be locatable. We were able to use it to trace my elderly father to a hospital when he went “quiet” on an overseas trip (he’s fine now).

DH and I both have “find” enabled on our iPhones which works…as long as we have mobile reception. More up to date iPhones than mine will share location via satellite so don’t need reception, but doesn’t help me in the short term.

Which site you seeing that on, or are you local, I can't find any confirmation

Me neither. People have been saying they saw him in the town after he was supposed to have gone missing but nothing more than that.

@ladymuckofthemanor you should ask for your post to be removed if it isn't fact

Oaktree55 · 06/06/2024 19:32

So he’s not far shy of 70yrs it was 36c on a beach without shade it looks like and he was feeling tired (ill)? So decided to walk back to villa without a phone along a rocky coastal route.

MattDamon · 06/06/2024 19:36

According to a local journo:

The hiking trail he took is one of the easiest and most popular routes. It's quite close to sea level so unlikely he fell.

He was seen at a bus stop by multiple people in town after the hike.

I really hope there is a good outcome, but even if not, hope whatever has happened is established sooner rather than later. The speculation on social media about high profile 'missing person' cases gets absolutely insane - horrible, distasteful, defamatory.

quizzys · 06/06/2024 19:42

There is some ageism going on here I feel.

At 67 myself, I walked from San Pedro to Marbella along the coastal path (it is paved and flat though). It is around 10k and while it was hot, there was a great breeze and I had a hat and water. That was last week and the temps were late 20s early 30s.

I take the fifth on whether I had a phone or not. Took the bus back.

Just saying. And two days later I went and did the (scary to me!) trek around the Caminito del Rey.

Accidents and events can happen to anyone, whatever their age. Matter of fact younger people are more prone to injury and worse as they often feel invincible. I don't and take a bit more care now. I'm still 67!

Roselilly36 · 06/06/2024 19:45

Praying he is found safe and well.

Is there any suggestion there's been foul play? It occurred to me earlier that if it was a young woman, that would be everyone's first assumption.

i haven’t heard that suggested, no. I’d say much more likely that he fell.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 06/06/2024 19:51

How do you leave the island? Last reported sightings at a bus stop and the emergency services are saying that if he was still on the island they would have found him by now. Hoping he's done a flit and will be found safe and well somewhere else.

The sighting in Pedi was found not to be him after CCTV was checked

Oaktree55 · 06/06/2024 19:55

Reading up on him he’s had heart issues and gave an interview saying no male in his family has ever lived past 72. I’d imagine the heat triggered a heart problem and he’s sadly fallen as a result.

BettyUnderswoob · 06/06/2024 19:55

The whole situation is utterly baffling. There's no sign of him anywhere.
His poor wife and children.

Feedbackloop · 06/06/2024 19:56

If he’s fallen into the sea then naturally, he won’t be on the island. I really hope he’s found soon

Link? It's still on the major news sites.

AhBiscuits · 06/06/2024 20:03

This is such a worry for his family.
I hope he shows up soon.

What about one of those flares that set off coloured smoke? At least you would be noticed by someone hopefully. Or some sort of GPS thing?

Not the easiest to get a flare through security in most airports, I should think. It would certainly be a good option in the UK.

I haven’t got a link, it’s something I read on one of them earlier. I’ve read BBC and Guardian today, give it a google

GameOfJones · 06/06/2024 20:16

This is so worrying, his poor wife and children must be absolutely frantic.

I was only listening to his 'Just one thing' podcast yesterday, I've always really liked his programmes and that's one I listen to all the time so his voice is often in my ear. He's always come across as a really nice, genuine man.

I really hope he is found soon.

StrawPony · 06/06/2024 20:21

I don’t think it’s unusual for someone of that generation to leave their phone at home (or at the hotel). Most of my relatives of that age do similar. Hope he is ok, I got the fast800 keto out of the library last week.

l’m 60.

My phone is glued to my hand. So is DH’s. We never leave them behind. He’s 65.

atotalshambles · 06/06/2024 20:23

I was just listening to his podcast. I hope he is ok and that he is found soon. I feel so sorry for his poor wife and family. They must be beside themselves.

Villagetoraiseachild · 06/06/2024 20:24

Was listening to him on Radio 4 just this morning.
Dear man and his lovely wife, I do hope for the best here.
He may have got sun stroke or dehydrated in that heat, both of which are very disorienting.
