It's been horrible and now not getting the payment until Wednesday means my son will be going hungry for a second night in a row (I dont care about myself not eating, i can handle it). No breakfast stuff this morning as I was hoping to get to the shop early but that couldn't happen and now my son has to go to preschool without a breakfast or lunch again! I've not long moved house and dont have a cooker yet so any food I do have is useless right now as its all frozen and not microwavable.

I've relied on CB payments every Monday for the last 2 1/2 years to do my weeks shopping (I've gotten good at finding deals and yellow labels are a godsend!) But all that is useless if the payment doesn't happen. Breaks my heart to have my boy turn to me before he goes to sleep and say his tummy hurts, as he doesn't understand and all I can say to him is sorry 😭

I would not think anything less of a neighbour that knocks on my door to see if I had a tin of beans and some bread. Please reach out. You can ask anonymously on most of the local fb groups.

chloe1243 · 03/06/2024 19:37

QuaintBear- I'm so sorry you're in that position. Could you speak to your boys pre school and explain the situation? Maybe they could help. Sending love.

GaslitlikeaVictorianparlour · 03/06/2024 19:40

I heard the announcement that the payment wouldn't go through until Wednesday and I couldn't help thinking of folk on this thread who've already gone a day without necessities and will have to again tomorrow. Its disgraceful that in the UK in 2024 we're seeing scenes that wouldn't be out of place in a Dickens novel.

QuaintBear I'm so very sorry you and your wee boy are in this position. I wish I could help.

@QuaintBear please reach out to a neighbour or even anonymously on a local Facebook page for some food for you and your child tonight.

If you don’t feel comfortable doing that then try a local food bank, I know some require a referral but most places now will also have a community kitchen somewhere where you can go to grab some essentials. X

Iamtarticus · 03/06/2024 20:11

If you were my neighbour I'd drive you to the shop and get you whatever you need. I'm so sorry for you.

Joanna1234567899 · 03/06/2024 20:14

💔💔💔💔 no child should go through that 😢 that’s just vile 😢 I haven’t paid my bill yet coz I need to make sure to feed kids, if you would be somewhere close to Stretford I could help somehow I haven’t got much but no child should go hungry 😢

AnneElliott · 03/06/2024 20:19

Please do reach out to a friend @QuaintBear

I would feel awful if one of my friends couldn't ask me to feed them and their child (or provide a loan so you could get dinner).

So sorry for everyone struggling on this thread.

K0OLA1D · 03/06/2024 20:29

I'd be gutted if someone I knew felt they couldn't reach out to me.

I am so sorry for everyone struggling I really am x

listsandbudgets · 03/06/2024 20:35

@QuaintBear I've sent you a PM.

What an absolutely horrible mess Sad

QuaintBear · 03/06/2024 21:01

❤️ thank you to you all for your kind words. I'm truly overwhelmed, I have no words. I've managed to get some money from my Dad so I can at least get to the shop in the morning and get a few essentials. I then get paid on Wednesday so I only have tomorrow to cover thankfully.

To those who PM me, I'm truly grateful for your offers of help. Kindness like yours is unbelievably appreciated ❤️

@Zullyj do you have a local Facebook page? If so, post on there (even anonymously if you would prefer). On our local village group there have been 2 posts of people asking for help and lots have rallied round to help them.

Have a look for foodbanks in your local area which don’t require referrals (some don’t) or a community kitchen where you can just go in and get what you need. If you truly have nothing and no way of getting anything though I would still try a local foodbank and explain your situation. I volunteer at our local one sometimes when I have time and although it does require referrals we very often make exceptions and would absolutely not turn you away.

Reach out to your local religious organisations most will help even if your not part of that religion.

if your children are at school or nursery talk to them, they will do what they can to help.

Ghostlygirl · 03/06/2024 22:12

Zullyj, if you can say roughly where you are, people may be able to recommend places or organisations near you.

Gemma96x · 03/06/2024 22:49

Its a nightmare especially with no warning it fucks everything up for alot of people that every1 relys on.

kittensinthekitchen · 03/06/2024 22:56

I wish people would STOP OFFERING MONEY to random posters - especially those who don't have a posting history.
You may not mind if they're taking the piss, but it just encourages beggars to the site trying to grift money from people.

Noone is in the position where they can't ask a neighbour/friend/family member/random person on local FB page for help, that's without talking about food banks, school contingency payments, emergency welfare grants or religious establishments into consideration.

GaslitlikeaVictorianparlour · 04/06/2024 05:46

Man, this is just horrible.
I'm so sorry this is happening to people.
There's a post on our local Facebook page asking for suggestions for places people can go for emergency help and surprisingly there's a football team round here who provides meals a couple of days a week. Might be worth a try in your area?
