What time do you get up in the morning and why?

I'm just curious really.

I have always been a 7am riser. That is the time DDs wake up (they are now at primary school) and I always prioritised sleep throughout their baby stages.

But I've found myself recently waking up at 6am on the dot every day, then staying in bed dozing and feeling more tired by the time I actually get up. I'm wondering if I got up at 6am when I naturally seem to wake up I could get more done and actually have time for some exercise (or just a quiet coffee in peace!)

What time do you get up in the morning and what's the reasoning behind it?

Wow lots of early risers! I tend to wake around 7/7.30. Sometimes by my alarm, sometimes naturally. Although no alarm this morning as it’s half term and I’m off work, and i woke at 8 which felt amazing! I’m a night owl so rarely asleep before midnight.

Icehockeyflowers · 29/05/2024 17:43

I’m in shock reading this. Getting up before 5/6/7am!

I go to bed at midnight as I like sometime to myself after the kids go to bed (around 9pm) and I wake at 7.45am. I am ALWAYS tired.

What time do you go to bed when you are getting up at 3 am?

At the minute it’s 10pm for a 4 am get up so probably a 9pm for a 3.

don’t start that shift until sometime in July as our store isn’t open till then so training at another store where we don’t have to do the really early or late shifts due to public transport not running

04.30 because that's when my son naturally wakes, if I'm lucky an extra hour snuggling in bed but .... rarely

Huifen · 29/05/2024 17:48

4 days per week 5.20 - DD is a swimmer. Other days 6.30 just because that's when I wake and I prefer to start work early and finish early

That's quite late. My ds is swimmer and trains at 5am 😂

People are often amused and horrified we are up at 4am to train.

But it's just normal for us 🤷‍♀️

But like you if I'm up at 6.30am my body thinks it's had a lie in 🤔

BlackBean2023 · 29/05/2024 18:17

In the summer I'm up at 5, dog walk between 5.15-6.30 then I get a cup of tea in peace before the kids emerge about 7. I have an hour to get showered/dressed.

In the winter I drag myself out of bed at 6.30, shower, have my cuppa then take the dog out for a walk whilst kids have breakfast and get themselves dressed (16 and 8 so pretty self sufficient). Get dressed in 20 mins when I get home.

We leave the house for school/work at 8.15 year-round... I prefer April-Sept!!

Bloody hell fire I can't believe people chose to get up this early Grin

I really wish I was a morning person but I'm not and can't see myself ever being one. I wake up at 7.15am on week days in a huge stink with my alarm and weekends is around 8am when the kids wake up. I'm also in a stink then Grin

Go to bed around 10pm.

Mimilamore · 29/05/2024 18:34

I like to be up by 8.15-9.00, I wake around 7 but the luxury of retirement means I can come to slowly, listen to radio, catch up on phone. Then 🤞🏻2 cups of coffee before husband appears as then I'm on carer duties. I really appreciate the chance to do this as I found having to be up and at it before 7 for 50 years the worst thing about working.
Sometimes I go to bed at 9 ish but again can choose to stay up late without the " work the next day" fear...

mynewusername2023 · 29/05/2024 18:38

5.10am on a hair wash day, 5.40am on other days I'm going to the office and 7am on WFH days (start at 8am every day).

As a result, most days off/weekends I'm awake before 8am and consider this a good lie in.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 29/05/2024 18:45

5.05 am following the 5 O clock club thing- yoga until 5:30 then coffee, check headlines/ online banking. In shower by 6:15, downstairs for 6:30, leave the house @ 7 for commute oŕ run if WFH before starting work @ 8. Bed around 9pm asleep by 9:30.

Oblomov24 · 29/05/2024 19:07

I get up at 7.15 because I like lots of time before I leave at 8. I'm often ready so sit and mn for 20 mins before I leave.

Gosh I think people who get up so early must have no social life at all. I'd hate to get up so early every day. They must be in bed by 9pm every day. That is the body clock of a child.

CelesteCunningham · 29/05/2024 19:11

I get up at 6:40 because I'm supposed to get up at 6:30. Sigh.

I often wake naturally between 6 and 7 anyway, love lying scrolling on my phone and dozing - time that's just for me, no DC or work interference.

itsgettingweird · 29/05/2024 19:21

Ice hockey that is true re social life and early nights with needing to get up so early. But if you have a child who does a sport that requires that commitment you kinda just fall into that life. I'm not sure anyone plans it.

Same as if you have a job that requires an early start. A job is better than none.

I just wait for the day ds can take himself to training at stupid o clock in the morning!

Tisfortired · 29/05/2024 19:34

Anywhere between 5 and 6:30am because I have a 17 month old 😴

Well good for you you don’t need to. Lots of people have little or no choice.

Borris · 29/05/2024 19:45

8am if. I don't set an alarm at the weekends. 6.30/7 on a work day

happybluefern · 29/05/2024 19:47

Wishihadanalgorithm · 29/05/2024 08:09

I’m amazed at so many early risers.
If I could, I’d stay in bed until I wake up naturally - about 8.30-9.00. However, for work I’m awake just after 6 and up by 6.15.

i used to be a lark but now I’m more of an owl.

Yes! For balance, I have been known to get up at 8.50 to start wfh at 9. No kids!

Many of the answers here almost competitive in nature about who gets up the earliest and many of them are early risers unnecessarily. Spending an hour over a coffee or breakfast tv for example. For many it is their choice.

muddyford · 29/05/2024 19:52

I have started waking at 5.00, which is an hour before I need to get up to let the dogs out. Some days I go back to sleep, but this morning I got up at 5.20 and had my shower!

App13 · 29/05/2024 19:53

5.55, either to go to work or see to dd2

Snowpaw · 29/05/2024 19:54

5.45am at the moment - not through choice! Seems to be 5 year old DD's wake up time. My preferred time would be 7 but here we are.

Abracadabra12345 · 29/05/2024 19:54

@Churchview That's lovely!

StoatofDisarray · 29/05/2024 19:54

At the moment, 5:30 because that's about 15 mins before the parrot wakes up.

It means I can wake up slow, have a wash and put on my gym clothes before I let him out of his cage and we have breakfast.

I go to the gym at about 6:15, get back about 7:15 and leave for work at 8:15 to start at 9.
