What time do you get up in the morning and why?

I'm just curious really.

I have always been a 7am riser. That is the time DDs wake up (they are now at primary school) and I always prioritised sleep throughout their baby stages.

But I've found myself recently waking up at 6am on the dot every day, then staying in bed dozing and feeling more tired by the time I actually get up. I'm wondering if I got up at 6am when I naturally seem to wake up I could get more done and actually have time for some exercise (or just a quiet coffee in peace!)

What time do you get up in the morning and what's the reasoning behind it?

Pizza** that's 5 mornings a week. Well 4 at 4am and 1 at 5am! One 6am start for work and then Sunday off!

Oh except once a month we are up on a Sunday as he'll be competing somewhere!

I go to bed at 9pm

Willmafrockfit · 29/05/2024 09:34

5.30 to leave the house at 7.30
and even if i dont need to ddog is used to this and wakes me

aSpanielintheworks · 29/05/2024 09:35

Alarm goes off at 6am, walk the dog until 7.15am, shower, wash hair, get ready and leave for work at 8am. Rarely need the alarm, it's a 'just in case'
Weekends much more relaxed and currently still in bed at 9.30am. Tend to wake up 6ish as usual but go back to sleep till about 8am!

mondaytosunday · 29/05/2024 09:37

I'm self employed WFH. When my kids were at school obviously that dictated the hour. Earliest being 6.40 as DD had to be in central London by 8.20 (by tube). Now she doesn't have to be in til 9.30 so 8.10am is my wake up, though usually awake before.
However half term now and I wake up around 7.30-8am, get up to feed cats and let dogs out back. This morning I woke up at 6.30, one of the dogs had that look so went down then, went back to bed and woke again at 9.
I tend to stay up til midnight or later.

BeepyBloke · 29/05/2024 09:44

This morning was 5:39, despite me being on annual leave.
I get up at 6am for work usually and it seems my body doesn’t know how to lie in anymore.

I’ve already done two loads of laundry walked the dog, hoovered top to bottom and mopped the kitchen & hall floors.

WoodBurningStov · 29/05/2024 09:45

I wfh but after years of early rising children I wake up about 6.30, which means I usually wake between 6.39 and 7.30. I'm the same op, if I have a lie in, I end up feeling sluggish and groggy

Nomorecoconutboosts · 29/05/2024 09:51

I’m still in bed now! On holiday to be fair.
I’ve worked shifts all my adult life so with lots of late finishes can’t have a regular schedule. If working late I will wake around 8-9 then have coffee in bed.
Not a fan of the days I start at 8 and have to leave at 7.20
I can get dressed/ready in 40 minutes including washing hair

Between 4.30-5 week days to go to the gym before work. 7am on weekends

Same here. I have a part time job as a gym instructor. I was out of the house by 5 this morning.

Stylishcooncil · 29/05/2024 10:02

Before 7am at the moment. My sleep is weird and will go through phases of sleeping until 8/9 am then resetting and waking me early for months. I have no reason to get up early, nowhere to go etc it's just how my body seems to work.

NZDreaming · 29/05/2024 10:33

Usually wake up by about 9am but I’m seeing that is not usual!

Echobelly · 29/05/2024 10:37

Our alarm is set just before 7am on weekdays. DH is self employed, I'm currently between jobs but mostly WFH when working, but we still have it on during term time mostly to make sure youngest, who has ADHD, gets out to school on time. He's generally pretty good in fact and doesn't need us 90% of the time, but every now and then he hasn't set his alarm or sleeps through it. Also I may go into the office once or twice a week when working - looks like I'll be accepting a new job today, so I will need to get up on those days myself and be out the house by about 8.15

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 29/05/2024 11:31

Around 9.30 am on average.

I've done many years at getting up 6.30/7.00, moved to a leisurely 8/8.30 when I started working from home (and no longer responsible for anyone else's early rising) - and now I've retired it's lovely !

I am not a morning person - never have been. I tend to go to bed around midnight - a bit later sometimes .

wendycupcakes · 29/05/2024 12:01

Depends on the day with me.
Sometimes 5- 6am or it could be as late as 10 -10.30am.

RuthW · 29/05/2024 12:12

6am weekdays so I have enough time to get ready for work

JustforAlice · 29/05/2024 12:25

4.45 - in order to take medication so it has four hours to become effective before I start work. I do go back to bed till 7 but watch iPad as unable to sleep. I’m exhausted.

mitogoshi · 29/05/2024 12:35

Alarm at 7.40, leave at 8.30 no kids at home

Pukfair · 29/05/2024 12:39

Its midday. I’m still in bed. Have ME/CFS. I usually wake up between 9.30 and 11.30 am but am more ill today so am staying in bed.

CrushingOnRubies · 29/05/2024 13:14

When I'm working it's 6:15am have to get dog and me ready and a 45 min commute to start work at 8am

When I'm not working depends on what's going on

SpringleDingle · 29/05/2024 13:30

06:45 on a weekday and then normally 7 - 8am on the weekend. We had things on last weekend so we were up at 7 on Sat and 6:30 on Sunday so I had a lie in until 8:30 on Monday!! Dog likes to go out, I don't like to waste the day and I get sleepy in the evenings.

markusdam · 29/05/2024 14:42

Depends on if I’m on early shift or not.

4am if I’m on early as I need to get the 5 am train.(15min walk to station)

am at a training store till July and then the delivery shift is a 4 am start so need to be up at about 3am for a 25 min walk to the new store.

oh the joys of retail !!!!

OverprotectiveMumPFB · 29/05/2024 14:46

Alarm goes off at 6. Gives me time to attempt to wake up and make a tea before DC1 gets up. Wake DC2 at 630. Have to make sure DC1 is out at 650 for his bus to school. DC2 leaves at 715.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 29/05/2024 17:04

I get up at about 5 am if I'm going into the office (although I'm normally awake from about 4 am). If I'm off/WFH then I still wake up at the same time, but I drink tea in bed until about 6 am, then I get up.

I have to leave the house at 6.25 am for my commute.

What time do you go to bed when you are getting up at 3 am?

BasilParsley · 29/05/2024 17:34

Most days, I get up between 6 and 6.30 am. Haven't used an alarm for years - it's my natural wake up time even now I'm retired.

But it's good because it takes me some time to get going in the mornings due to chronic health conditions so I can have a couple of cups of tea and some meds and sit and do puzzles for a couple of hours (Wordle, Pendantle, Cemantle etc.!) before getting washed and dressed and the morning won't have disappeared. On the rare occasion if I do sleep in, it's never normally much later than 7.30/8.00.

I go to bed usually between 10 and 10.30pm

peachgreen · 29/05/2024 17:38

7.45 and I’m always woken by the alarm no matter what time I go to bed. DD is the same – I go in to wake her for school at 8 and she never wants to get up, despite going to bed at 7.15. We’re just not morning people. It’s one of the main things I would change about myself if I could – I would love more time in the mornings and I know it’s a huge part of why I didn’t have a second child.
