This is exciting, I've met a gamekeeper

I don't know why it that feels exciting, but the way it came about...

I'm doing a long distance trail on my own and having a marvellous time enjoying some solitude.

This evening I'd booked a table at the pub where I'm staying, but when I went down for dinner (not before!) was told the chef had a family emergency and they're not doing food. [Shock]

So I went to the only other restaurant in town to be told they didn't have a table, unless the man at the bar table didn't mind sharing....

He's lovely. About my age, an interesting history, good conversation and, I don't know why this tickles me, a gamekeeper.

He's gone to the loo, but conversation is easy and wine is flowing....

My favourite game keeper was Alec Scudder played by Rupert Graves in Maurice.
Obviously I'm the wrong sex...

Absolutely! If you remember, Hugh Grant’s drippy Clive breaks poor Maurice’s heart and adorable Scudder (and his ladder) have to mend it for him.

he was in the loo a long time ! about half an hour ? by my calculations

BoudiccaOfSuburbia · 29/05/2024 18:15

OP, FANTASTIC! I am looking up long distance paths and packing as I type!

I need a path with lots of pubs, don't I? I had been thinking of the Thames Path but I bet there would be no game keepers. The off lock keeper, maybe?

If you've left him behind, any clue as to which path he can be found on? Or are you planning to pick him up on the return trip?

Also:

DID YOU SHAG HIM?

We did talk about football. I'm quite a fan and he's .....a former professional footballer. I forgot to mention that 🤣

This now reminds of Vinnie Jones in The Gentlemen (just seen it on netflix). He's the gamekeeper in it.

Daleksatemyshed · 29/05/2024 18:20

Does he look like Sean Bean? Even just a little bit? Because if he does, then go for it Op, ask if his gun needs a polish😍

TheFirmBiscuit · 29/05/2024 18:26

If he kills foxes I would walk out and never see him again period. Sorry.

Maybe he’s a constipated gamekeeper? Or was taking potshots from the loo window at passing vermin frolicking on the bowling green?

ArabellaScott · 29/05/2024 18:48

Managing the in-toilet squirrel population probably.

Was he also a former professional footballer though?

Anything is possible 😅😂

That's what happens when you have a meat-heavy diet 😂

Managing the in-toilet squirrel population probably.

In fairness, when we had squirrels in the attic two winters in a row, I’d have hired the SAS to get rid of them. They used to gallop around like racehorses in the early hours…

Churchview · 29/05/2024 19:50

@ArabellaScott worming lurchers on a sheepskin rug!!!! 😂

No woman would turn that down, surely.

Kneeslikethese · 29/05/2024 20:08

My grandad was a gamekeeper. There was always rabbits and birds hung up in the outhouse.
He wasn't called Mellors or very interesting though!

MenopauseSucks · 29/05/2024 20:51

@LoisFarquar

And the village cricket match!
Maurice & Scudder racking up the runs and wanna-be MP Clive turns up & buggers it all up!

That was a very good film. Every time I see a film with Rupert Graves, I think of the ladder, a bit of mud on the carpet & the boathouse...

Does he know he's on mumsnet?

Hopefully not so we can all keep talking about him!

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/05/2024 22:39

@Confortableorwhat Did you just part ways or did you swap details??
