This is exciting, I've met a gamekeeper

I don't know why it that feels exciting, but the way it came about...

I'm doing a long distance trail on my own and having a marvellous time enjoying some solitude.

This evening I'd booked a table at the pub where I'm staying, but when I went down for dinner (not before!) was told the chef had a family emergency and they're not doing food. [Shock]

So I went to the only other restaurant in town to be told they didn't have a table, unless the man at the bar table didn't mind sharing....

He's lovely. About my age, an interesting history, good conversation and, I don't know why this tickles me, a gamekeeper.

He's gone to the loo, but conversation is easy and wine is flowing....

Believe so. Can’t think of anything worse personally!

Nothing wrong with a gamekeeper!

That's all part of the fun. I'm only here one night!

😉 have fun OP!

newtlover · 28/05/2024 21:04

is he wearing courdroy trousers held up with braces?

Bemusedandconfusedagain · 28/05/2024 21:04

Oh. I was hoping his name was Hagrid and he was going to show you his pink umbrella.

FretfulPorpentine · 28/05/2024 21:04

This is making me think of Liz in Motherland when she meets a farmer when they go away for a few days.

Maybe a bunk-up in a tent is in the offing OP?

LardoBurrows · 28/05/2024 21:09

Has he offered to thread forget-me-not flowers in your fine brown fleece?

newtlover · 28/05/2024 21:10

😂

Sue152 · 28/05/2024 21:10

The ones round here shoot anything that moves, horrible. One even used to go on a busman's holiday to Africa to shoot big game. Just vile.

Churchview · 28/05/2024 21:11

If this was a Jilly Cooper you'd twist your ankle now and end up having to recuperate at his gothic woodland lodge. A glass of wine, two jack russells snoozing by the baronial fireplace and him rubbing your ankle with strong thumbs. You'll get married and have two children called Tabitha and Xander.

If that doesn't happen I'll be fuming.

OneRedSandal · 28/05/2024 21:12

I'm picturing Vinnie Jones in The Gentlemen. Or was that a grounds keeper?

LadyLolaRuben · 28/05/2024 21:12

Looking forward to reading an update!

CandyLeBonBon · 28/05/2024 21:13

Gary the gamekeeper 🤣

BumpyaDaisyevna · 28/05/2024 21:14

Shamelessly following.

Are there any empty shops in the village for you to suddenly decide you are going to stay and open up a book shop / bakery / twee cafe?

Definitely this!

Have you fallen over and said 'aaaaaargh' yet?

Love a bit of chick lit.

Completely agree! I married a former gamekeeper and it doesn't bother me in the slightest!

ehb102 · 28/05/2024 21:21

Enjoy! I have at least half a dozen friends who are with gamekeepers. Like any other profession, they vary greatly. They are often very knowledgeable about the countryside and the wildlife.

Definitely hallmark movie material, are you an American in Ireland/Scotland/Wales? Are you a hard headed business woman who has come to aforementioned place to deal with a family death/rift/writers block?
Have you fell clumsily at least 5 times since meeting him?
Have you have a dance to trad music and met a fabulous group of women/gay men who have given you a local makeover?
Have you got stuck in the snow and the gamekeeper has rescued you?

I need to get out more 😂

😂😂😂

TheFormidableMrsC · 28/05/2024 21:22

Oh it's like sliding doors 🥰

The bloke down our lane is a gamekeeper. His house is a god awful tip, blankets for curtains and he always has dead animals hanging in his porch.

Yep. That's my experience of gamekeepers and I know several

WayOutOfLine · 28/05/2024 21:24

@FretfulPorpentine I was also thinking about Liz in Motherland when she's staying in her tent and entertaining the local farmer...

DutifulDaughterWifeMother · 28/05/2024 21:24

Just making myself comfortable for OP’s next update………🤭

Nosferatutu · 28/05/2024 21:28

The only other gamekeeper I can think of is Will Grundy from the Archers. Who isn’t the subject of any Jilly Cooper-esque fantasies I’d wager!
