Weirdest thing you’ve lost in your house

I was thinking about this again this morning as I do a tidy up. About 2 years ago I bought a little paper Guillotine it was a bit longer than A4 and half the width, black plastic. Not a small easily misplaced thing. I used it maybe 6 times and I kept it in our craft cupboard. One day I went to use it and it simply wasn’t there! I looked all over the place and it’s just never resurfaced - my child and partner simply wouldn’t have thought about moving it or using it and it puzzles me on a regular basis.
What random things have disappeared in your house? Did they ever turn up again ?

My mind…

Yes I managed to lose a frying pan DH has never let me forget it, every time I'm looking for something he chimes in with 'see if the frying pan is in there while your at it' the aforementioned pan went missing almost 20 years ago, I still believe he binned it because he couldn't be bothered to wash it!

I lost a necklace. I don’t know when I lost it as it wasn’t one I wear often. When I got married, the auntie who bought me the necklace was unable to come so I wanted to wear it so she was with me. Looked in jewelry box and not there. Hunted through bedroom and bathroom, anywhere that seemed likely. Nothing. Day before the wedding I went to get my passport out of the desk in the living room and there it was! I have no idea how it got there.

All the screws to fix the bath panel in place, plus the little white plastic caps that cover the screw-heads. DH and I both swore we'd stashed them in an old aqeuous cream tub that's sat on top of the cistern for the past 15 years.

We opened it this morning and...it's empty.

It’s lovely that it turned up - what a relief!

Christmas cards.
I bought 4-5 packs in the January sales for the next year about 20 years ago.
They've never turned up despite searching and a house move.
I could swear they went in the loft with the rest of the Christmas things.

I lost a large bar of green and blacks dark chocolate yesterday..I remember putting it in the snack draw, DH is allergic and kids don't like dark chocolate or wouldn't recognise the brand as chocolate anyway (they are very young) so where the f is is??! I scoured the kitchen in case I moved it somewhere. I use it to dip into peanut butter and it's gone!!

I lost an external hard drive. This was about 5 years ago and have still never found it. Thought it might have gone down the sofa but it's still a mystery.

It was bright blue so not hard to lose

PostMenPatWithACat · 26/05/2024 11:10

A pair of winter snow boots - just disappeared.

ZipZapZoom · 26/05/2024 11:10

A new set of knives. There were 12 of them and they cost a small fortune. We moved house a few years later packed everything up and never found them, it was a running joke.

Unpacking the boxes at the other end we found them in with the bathroom bits. To this day we've still got no idea where they went or how they ended up in that box but I was very pleased to finally use the bloody things.

I'm currently looking for a large (A3 size) pop-up book I made last year as an example book to show different mechanisms, for teaching DT at school. I need it for teaching the same unit this year. It's pretty big and bulky and too large to be tucked in between books on a shelf. I've scoured the house, found all my other DT models but this pop-up book has vanished off the face of the earth! Any psychics out there?
I'm also missing one bright multi-coloured sock with cats on belonging to DD2. They're her favourites...

A much-loved and played with Playmobil soldier in a blue and black uniform. Completely disappeared when dc was about 3, never to be seen again.

Upinthenightagain · 26/05/2024 11:13

I lost a bra. It was new. I put it on the bed, went for a shower, came back and it was gone. This was two years ago. I presumed it would turn up but it never has despite overhauling my draws and wardrobe several times. Where it went totally baffles me.

FloofyBear · 26/05/2024 11:15

My glasses, for 2 weeks! I found them on top of the microwave in the end, behind the egg boxes, I'd looked there so many times before ... weird!

That's so weird, when we moved into this house and I was tidying the garden I found a Playmobil soldier in a blue uniform in a flowerbed! spooky. He's still in my shed!

Green and blacks dark chocolate dipped into peanut butter??? You’re a genius.

Oh wow that book sounds amazing! I hope you find it! 🤞🤞

I lost a mushroom. Bear with… no gaps whatsoever underneath my kitchen cupboards. Kick boards all attached, flush all the way around. Chopping mushrooms, dropped a whole one on the floor. It rolled away. And clearly fell into a black hole or an alternative dimension because it was never found.

Lovelyview · 26/05/2024 11:19

My great aunt's old wheelchair disappeared from a shed. Stolen or someone in the house got rid of it then forgot. There is no satisfactory explanation as the shed had things in it that were much more valuable than an old wheelchair.

sparklychair · 26/05/2024 11:27

My father's diary from when he went up to London to see the parades for George V's coronation in 1911. It also included photos taken and developed by him. I'm so sad that I can't find it. I think I might have lent it to someone...
So, if you come across an approx A5 notebook with stiff covers, by B B Baker, please, please let me know!

OldTinHat · 26/05/2024 11:30

I was gifted a ring with a lot of sentimental value. I always took it off at night with other jewellery and put it in a little dish on my dressing table.

One day, it had vanished. Other jewellery was there, no ring.

I turned my bedroom upside down looking for it. Still no ring.

Several years later, I moved house. All the furniture had gone with the movers, I'd vacuumed every room, cleaned everywhere. Just before I locked up for the last time and handed the keys over, I did one last look round. In the middle of my bedroom floor, which I'd just vacuumed, was my ring.

When my youngest was about 2-3 years old our toilet was blocked and notjing worked to unblock it, we ended up getting a person in to investigate thoroughly - turns out we had about 7-8 small rubber duck and other similar toys blocked in the toilet in various places, my little boy wanted his favourite toys to visit the teenage mutant ninja turtles and he knew the toilet flushing went to the drains where they lived 🥰 bless him

I lost my Nan’s earrings about 20 years ago. Used to wear them all the time, nothing fancy just plain gold hoops. Took them off can’t remember why now thought I’d put them in jewellery box never to be seen again. I’ve got my suspicions that ex dh threw them out.

PuttingDownRoots · 26/05/2024 11:41

In a house move, we lost our collection of ornamental meerkats and our placemats

PlatinumBrunette · 26/05/2024 11:47

So, so much I can’t list.
But the current thing that’s bugging me is my torch. I always put it back the the same place (obviously not!). I need it to help my nearly blind dog see where she’s going for her late night pee.
I guess I need to do a big tidy up/clean.
