Weirdest thing you’ve lost in your house

I was thinking about this again this morning as I do a tidy up. About 2 years ago I bought a little paper Guillotine it was a bit longer than A4 and half the width, black plastic. Not a small easily misplaced thing. I used it maybe 6 times and I kept it in our craft cupboard. One day I went to use it and it simply wasn’t there! I looked all over the place and it’s just never resurfaced - my child and partner simply wouldn’t have thought about moving it or using it and it puzzles me on a regular basis.
What random things have disappeared in your house? Did they ever turn up again ?

My wedding necklace and earrings. Only simple cz studs in silver and a silver chain and matching pendant. I wore them every day after the wedding as they were simple and classic. Used to take them off before bed and put them in a little seashell that was on my bedside table along with my engagement ring which I also took off at night.

Woke up one morning. Engagement ring was still there but earrings and necklace not there. As you can imagine I was very upset. Searched the bedroom multiple times plus the rest of the house. Nothing.

We moved 3 years after our wedding. Packed the house and cleaned it ourselves the day we moved out, still nothing.

Not too long ago I was looking for my earplugs in my vanity unit when I saw something sparkly. It was the jewellery set from my wedding.

Normally I would say they probably were overlooked when we moved and I just hadn't found them but I only bought the vanity 3 years ago, been in the new house for 8 years and married for 12. No explanation for it at all!

Half a baguette. I was walking round with it in my hand but got distracted by tidying. 45 minutes later, house more straight, I go to finish eating the left over baguette and it’s gone.

at the time, there was a lot going on and I was on a uni deadline, 3dc all needed things and my brain was at capacity so memory, usually sharp, was blurry and I have no idea where bread is. I confessed to dh and we both hunted. No success. The next day the cleaner came and I asked her to look out for it. No joy there either. One day we’ll move house and it’ll be found and gross 🤢

A rather lovely port merrion fluted did she with birds on. Serving dish size. Bought with glee from a charity shop. Not been seen since first use. No one will admit to breaking it and we've moved house since so well and truly lost. Completely baffled as to where it went.

Yes I managed to lose a frying pan DH has never let me forget it, every time I'm looking for something he chimes in with 'see if the frying pan is in there while your at it' the aforementioned pan went missing almost 20 years ago, I still believe he binned it because he couldn't be bothered to wash it!

I see your frying pan and raise you a large le cruset cast iron pot. Poof, disappeared!

A large Mulberry handbag. I switched it out for a lighter bag while I was pregnant 7 years ago and have never found it again. During my pregnancy we moved out while we renovated our house and back again 6 months later. In all the upheaval I kept looking for the bag and it's never turned up.

EatCrow · 26/05/2024 16:02

A pile of tea towels. Every now and again I do a search.

Margaritasandmojitos · 26/05/2024 16:08

A watch and an ice cream scoop. Never found either. Broke my arm and have to wear a plastic brace. Came with 2 sockettes to wear underneath brace. Kept clean one on top of dresser. Disappeared last week and can’t find it anywhere. I live alone and no one else has been in my house.

DameDaffodil · 26/05/2024 16:24

An entire bedding set, king size quilt cover, fitted sheet, pillow cases. Took it all off the bed to wash and it's never been seen again! Baffling and infuriating!

TootsyPants · 26/05/2024 16:26

I lost my car keys between the car and the garden gate.

merryhouse · 26/05/2024 16:29

a sainsbury's book club bag
a blue whale floatie toy
a toy-sized metal shopping basket

Twenty years ago. I suspect the visiting 4yo put them in her suitcase and never dared to fess up Grin

I lost my passport, couldn't find it anywhere so got a new one issued. Then it came to going away, I found my passport and happily travelled to my destination, it wasn't until the flight home that I was taken to one side and told interpol had flagged my passport as stolen.

Turns out I had 'found' my lost passport and taken that with me instead!

Thankfully they were so baffled at security they let me fly home.

Bunnyhair · 26/05/2024 16:33

My ironing board! No idea how we could have lost a fucking ironing board.

I think we must have a poltergeist (with a neatly pressed shroud).

AceOfCups · 26/05/2024 16:35

Not my story but a friend -

dropped an earring on the floor while getting ready one morning and she couldn’t find it anywhere, checked every corner and crevice of the bedroom and it never did turn up. Years later while living in another flat, it (or an identical earring) randomly appeared in one of the kitchen drawers a couple of years into her tenancy. Weird.

roman12345 · 26/05/2024 16:50

All of my pyjamas, including some I'd never worn 😥

PuttingDownRoots · 26/05/2024 17:11

Re car keys...

We list ours once, on holiday. We searched the car ark, the foyer, our room. The hotel staff helped. No where.

We moved house a year later. When unpacking a holdall of clothes, I felt a lump in the bag lining.... and there were the car keys!

Keepthosenamesgoing · 26/05/2024 17:13

My engagement ring.
I took it off when exH and I were separated and put it in the pouch it came in. Never ever saw it again.
Eventually claimed on the house insurance so win win really

Bassetlover · 26/05/2024 17:19

Two brand new bras never worn and both mine and my then partner's passports. On the same day, never to be found again.

That's so weird, when we moved into this house and I was tidying the garden I found a Playmobil soldier in a blue uniform in a flowerbed! spooky. He's still in my shed!

You don't live in a town beginning with 'S' by any chance?!

mindutopia · 26/05/2024 17:47

A tarantula. 😂 It was fine. It reappeared a few days later and my arachnophobic housemate at the time was none the wiser, about the existence of said tarantula or his escape!

Oh lord - my uni housemate lost his whilst cleaning the tank. He did confess and the rest of us decamped to the local pub till it was found!

OldSchoolCasualty · 26/05/2024 18:11

Bought my little one a new toothbrush the other day, she had it in her hand in the car pretending
to brush, brought it in with her and it’s vanished!
we’ve looked everywhere for it!
I lost my passport once as well; it was in a zippered bit in the back of my bag I hadn’t opened! And it just vanished… a week before I was meant to go to Egypt. I did not get to go to Egypt and it never showed up! My mother remains convinced that I deliberately got rid of it because I didn’t want to go. This was not the case I was devastated!

Mimilamore · 26/05/2024 18:13

One croc on the way in from drying it on the catio, about 10 steps... looked under and over, husband was doing the job so just keep the one on the shoe rack JIC!

No, T!

BellaBobbins · 26/05/2024 18:54

A mini speaker. Admittedly it isn't especially big, but it has disappeared and we've searched for it all over. The most annoying thing is we bought it to replace our previous mini speaker which also disappeared.

Theoldwrinkley · 26/05/2024 19:39

Lost a large slice of ham. Large kitten reached over and scooped it off the work surface and disappeared. He reappeared only about 30 seconds later, too soon to have eaten ham. Its never reappeared. Im expecting hordes of flies sometime in the summer who have found it!
