What hobbies does your dh do?

I know I know, no one says what hobbies their partners do on here but I’m asking you to make an exception!

dh desperately needs something to do that isn’t work or the gym. He is bored and mildly depressed and needs a focus, but has turned his nose up at all my suggestions.

please tell me what your dh does! Mine is 45, doesn’t drink much, is reasonably physically fit. We don’t have much money, but we’re in London so can access most stuff. What might he like doing?

Five a side football? DP did it for a while although he did say he found it knackering! There seemed to be a nice social element to it though.

Nap1983 · 21/05/2024 20:09

Mine goes Fishing..

atticstage · 21/05/2024 20:09

Can you tell us what suggestions he's already rejected?

Synergies · 21/05/2024 20:10

Mine has quite a few hobbies/interests although doesn't have enough time or energy to pursue all of them, so some are more aspirational:

Gardening (fruit & veg)
Woodworking, crafting
Bread making
DIY
Pub quiz with the lads
Piano
Listening to podcasts

BePinkPombear · 21/05/2024 20:10

My DP does 5 a side too, he loves it

Would he consider volunteering? A lot of organisations have back of house roles that can be evenings/weekends and not always public facing if that would not be his thing

edited - learning an instrument like the guitar?

afrikat · 21/05/2024 20:11

Mine does triathlons so a mix of running, swimming, bike and gym. Sometimes meets a friend to play squash.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 21/05/2024 20:11

Fishing, swimming, mountain walking, playing in a concert band.

LindorDoubleChoc · 21/05/2024 20:11

My dh is a season ticket holder for a local premiership football club. So he goes to the football at least every other week and very occasionally to an away game. Other than that he works all the time.

JaninaDuszejko · 21/05/2024 20:12

When I asked DH he said 'winding you up' 🙄.

DreadPirateRobots · 21/05/2024 20:12

Mine runs, cooks, bakes bread, photography, and makes and contributes to podcasts with friends.

VenusClapTrap · 21/05/2024 20:12

Bloody cycling

Gettoachiro · 21/05/2024 20:13

Snooker/pool, anything Star Wars, a football management game you do through the post.

Echobelly · 21/05/2024 20:14

DH (50) has ADHD so has cycled between various things - one he enjoyed recently was learning to pick locks! He bought a kit for it and learned from videos on YouTube. Not used it for any criminal enterprise as far as I know but seemed to enjoy doing it, make of that what you will 😆

WonderingWanda · 21/05/2024 20:14

Mine used to do 5 aside but then he snapped his achilles so no more of that.

What about cookery? Photography? JuJitsu, learning a language, painting? Any of those seem like his sort of thing?

Parky04 · 21/05/2024 20:15

Cricket. He started when he was 46. He has now met so many friends through this.

Lovehearts82 · 21/05/2024 20:15

Mine does a podcast with his mate, they have similar interests in tv/films etc. Its on You tube and spotify. I never listen to it 🤣

PandaG · 21/05/2024 20:15

Running, photography, train spotting, board gaming (shared hobby with me and circle of friends), huge fan of live music so goes regularly to gigs, volunteers on the board of two charities

isthewashingdryyet · 21/05/2024 20:16

Lawn bowls, the club near us is full of men his age and older.

BobnLen · 21/05/2024 20:16

Cycling, Fishing, Running, Photography, Bird watching, mostly outdoors stuff which seems to need lots of stuff that clutters up everywhere though I'm gad he has his hobbies as we are retired and retired men seem to need hobbies

Humphriescushion · 21/05/2024 20:16

Rugby - watching local team and one other. Used to play but not now.
Padel - very popular her ( not uk) and easy to play. Can easily play three times a week.
big interest in classic cars.
various other interests. Motor racing, sport, reading.

LizzieBennett73 · 21/05/2024 20:16

Golf. It's done him the world of good, he's made a lot of "golf friends" as our DD's call them, he's outdoors walking and it's very good for focusing the mind. Lowered his stress levels considerably.

I would hate to think what he spends on kit and membership though.....

ChristmasLightsLover · 21/05/2024 20:16

I booked my DH onto a silver jewellery making course for Christmas and am now benefiting from him making really cool silver rings and necklaces for me and our teens!

Thepossibility · 21/05/2024 20:17

Mine plays basketball

Careful, you might out him. You need to be more vague.
