What hobbies does your dh do?

I know I know, no one says what hobbies their partners do on here but I’m asking you to make an exception!

dh desperately needs something to do that isn’t work or the gym. He is bored and mildly depressed and needs a focus, but has turned his nose up at all my suggestions.

please tell me what your dh does! Mine is 45, doesn’t drink much, is reasonably physically fit. We don’t have much money, but we’re in London so can access most stuff. What might he like doing?

My DP has just started to get into bouldering and indoor rock climbing. He enjoys it because he can go alone if he wants or can meet up with others if feeling social, it challenges him and also keeps him physically fit.

Ineedanewsofa · 21/05/2024 22:03

Fucking cricket.
Snooker/pool.
Gardening under duress.
Random DIY woodwork projects that do nothing to improve the overall state of the house but take days of his time 😬

Omg glad I'm single

What do you mean?
Do you not deem the hobbies mentioned to be cool enough?

The posters who have given answers are trying to help OP and her DH and all you have done is be mean and derogatory towards them.

I don’t think that’s very kind of you.

jellyheadeveryday · 21/05/2024 22:04

This might sound random but rock climbing...? Challenging with low risk of injury. Lots of good options in centres and if he got in to it then it could evolve to be more outdoorsy?

longdistanceclaraclara · 21/05/2024 22:05

Football, cycling and golf. Cliche.

nickelbabe · 21/05/2024 22:05

Plays the organ.
Goes on a fishing trip once a year.
Recently re-discovered chess.

That's it.

Ineedanewsofa · 21/05/2024 22:05

Just read your update OP - would he go for anything with animals? Horse riding would certainly fit the thrill seeking bill!

When I asked DH he said 'winding you up' 🙄.

Mine would probably say the same HmmGrin

TBH he does bugger all! I've told him he needs to change that, he's keen to retire at 60 and I've told him he needs to have something to do - and that isn't get under my feet!

janedani · 21/05/2024 22:08

Kayaking he started 2 years ago joining a group locally. Now he has the kids doing it as well which is great apart from all the equipment left to dry everywhere!

I could be wrong but maybe the pp meant that with that great long list of hobbies, the dh would never be around as a partner or for family life anyway, so why bother?

catin8oots · 21/05/2024 22:14

Takes Class As and neglects his kids

He's also a workaholic. It is good that I quite like my own company.

rwa818 · 21/05/2024 22:24

Climbing as in on a climbing wall, hiking, wild swimming,

If not sporty...DB is a scout leader, they always need volunteers

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 21/05/2024 22:27

Clay pigeon shooting
He'll love having a shotgun licence

NewName24 · 21/05/2024 22:27

With the update, I was also going to suggest volunteering with Scouts.
Will meet lots of people, and some go on to become really good friends BUT, the main point of the activity isn't 'to meet friends' so there isn't that pressure / fear of rejection. Can get to do some exciting activities. In a good Group you can be part of a team and can contribute when you are able.

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 21/05/2024 22:28

Mine also has an interest in cars and Swiss watch collecting

TealDog · 21/05/2024 22:30

Running and Gardening.

FuppinNora · 21/05/2024 22:34

My DH was similar so I booked him a trial class at yoga, martial art, social meet up group and local gym. They were booked and paid for so it gave him a push to go and try it out.

Maybe something similar to yoga or exercise classes that are pay as you go so that he is not tied to one particular day.

SpindleyDindley · 21/05/2024 22:35

He manages a second division flea jumping team.

Icequeen01 · 21/05/2024 22:37

Golf and then more golf and then a bit more golf. Then when he's not playing golf he's on the golf club's bloody organising committee planning ........ more golf.

Lilacdew · 21/05/2024 22:40

Sings in a choir, volunteers as school governor and for local political party. Also loves going to theatre, opera, museums and galleries, and goes for regular walks in the country. He also loves baking and does most of the cooking at home these days.

merryhouse · 21/05/2024 22:45

breadmaking
gardening (lettuces, tomatoes, runner beans, carrots, chillies, leeks... oh, and a rose)
choir
karate
bellringing

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 21/05/2024 23:29

Men I know - repair and upcycle furniture for charity.
Volunteer at a community repair shop.
Have allotments
Join a ukelele group
Join a volunteer gardening group.
Volunteer at wildlife or canal trusts
Help out with local theatre groups behind the scenes
Join a choir.or barbershop group
A lot of voluntary roles of these types can be done as and when the volunteer chooses
Join local sports groups, joining in cycle rides, runs or walks
Volunteering in some way is brilliant for self esteem because they really appreciate your help, you can often do something you are good at, and you feel good about yourself. And you can make friends.

Geocaching/walking (there will be lots of geocaches to find in and around London!) plus it will get him out in the fresh air which is good for mood.
