What hobbies does your dh do?

I know I know, no one says what hobbies their partners do on here but I’m asking you to make an exception!

dh desperately needs something to do that isn’t work or the gym. He is bored and mildly depressed and needs a focus, but has turned his nose up at all my suggestions.

please tell me what your dh does! Mine is 45, doesn’t drink much, is reasonably physically fit. We don’t have much money, but we’re in London so can access most stuff. What might he like doing?

Mines a gamer, PC games. Builds his own PC when he wants an upgrade. Has a small drone.

aintnospringchicken · 21/05/2024 20:22

When I asked DH he said 'winding you up' 🙄.

Is he right??

finalboss · 21/05/2024 20:32

Martial arts. It's got a really good social aspect to it too.

TheChosenTwo · 21/05/2024 20:32

Dh likes playing football, does 5 a side once a week. Takes ds to watch our local team most weekends if they are playing home or if it’s vaguely sensible drive for an away match.
He goes fishing occasionally.
Likes fires 😂 and cooking.
Sometimes will meet his friend for tennis, we do occasionally play but he’s much better than me so it’s a bit crap for us both.
Other than that he likes the pub and watching sky Atlantic crap (as I call it, it may well be very good but it doesn’t interest me!).
So all fairly standard really.

Sunnyandsilly · 21/05/2024 20:34

Golf. He’s bloody addicted.

SleepQuest33 · 21/05/2024 20:36

Cycling for years but now running (better cos cycling takes forever!)
building model planes (then flying them crashing then and rebuild…)
trustee for 2 charities one of which does take up some of his time

Sandsnake · 21/05/2024 20:37

Touch rugby! Brilliant sport. Amazing for fitness and such good fun. There is a decent amount of it to be found in London. Rugby experience helps in terms of ball handling, running good lines etc but absolutely not vital.

worriedgal · 21/05/2024 20:39

Watching cricket
Golf
Tennis

Catsinpartyhats · 21/05/2024 20:40

Crochet, paddleboarding and puzzles.

mondaytosunday · 21/05/2024 20:40

My husband did go to the gym for a half hour one mile swim every day before work. He also played bridge- he and three friends played one night monthly alternating houses. He worked 50-60 hour weeks so that's about all he could fit in!
He was also passionate about politics and was involved in the a social mobility charity and others.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 21/05/2024 20:43

Football - follows his team home and away. Cricket - has given up playing now but still goes to watch our county team.

Occasional golf and fishing with his brother and mates.

He also does quite a lot of volunteering in the community.

He works long hours plus the odd Saturday morning and he wonders why he's so tired!

VeraForever · 21/05/2024 20:47

I'm so very lucky.
My husband is a film buff and I actually enjoy all the wonderful films that he's watched. Film noir, European, eastern Asian, old British, etc...

Wonderful!

dixiebloom · 21/05/2024 20:50

Lego, military history, star wars stuff, models & figure painting...,VW campervan & camping.... runs but just for fitness

bettybyebye · 21/05/2024 20:56

My DHs hobby is geocaching- he started it as something to do with the kids and really got into it himself. He’s made lots
of friends from it as they have regular events and meet ups. It’s a great hobby if you like puzzles, and a great excuse to go for walks in different places!

ThereAreNoSloesOnThere · 21/05/2024 21:01

My DH is 70. His most enduring hobby is sailing. He has some friends who always need crew so he is able to sail a fair bit during summer as long as he is prepared to do whatever they ask. He also goes to the gym and runs. In the past he has done marathons but he was ill for a long time (15 years or so) until the cause was discovered and treated. Now he is hoping to run 5 ks fun runs.

he also loves woodworking but is very new to that. He has a woodworking lathe in the garage and is making little things like candlesticks. He is self taught thanks to youtube. He is also about to start an online degree in archaeology because that is what he wanted to do when he left school but he was pressured into becoming an accountant.

Other than that he loves reading. I persuade him to come to the cinema with me on occasion which is my favourite hobby.

crockofshite · 21/05/2024 21:09

He could find a 'mens shed'. There's quite a few around and they're all a bit different. One near us has a fully kitted out workshop and tinkers with old cars. Some do wood work projects, others do community volunteering.

Also a lot of councils organise volunteering in public parks and community areas, building fencing and paths, clearing scrub, etc.

Those who know what they're doing help and show others.

ChocHotolate · 21/05/2024 21:10

He's a scout leader

CurryandSnuggle · 21/05/2024 21:16

My husband does soap making, running and gaming.

I am interested in photography (you could buy a second hand DSLR), running, walking and reading.

AsanteSana · 21/05/2024 21:21

Shooting
Fishing
Beekeeping
Military history
Writing
Collecting antique clocks, barometers and scientific instruments
Chicken keeping
Baking
Making jams, chutneys and pickles
Gardening
Collecting natural history specimens eg animal skulls, bird feathers, shed snake skins etc
Taxidermy

Muffin101 · 21/05/2024 21:25

Shooting, clays and live. Darts and skittles. He doesn’t play rugby anymore but is still a keen follower, we go to watch Exeter Chiefs a lot. He used to be really into his motorbikes, off road, but that’s fallen by the wayside as his work and family commitments ramp up unfortunately.

ilovebagpuss · 21/05/2024 21:30

Running with a mate, rural so off road.
Gardening
Music and film, goes to a few gigs with another mate.
Indoor bouldering
Be nice if your DH could do something sociable as that improves mood.
He could challenge himself to try a new thing each month maybe?

whatjobcanido · 21/05/2024 21:32

Lurking. We are rural, time and cash poor. But my dh needs something other than video games too

trickyex · 21/05/2024 21:32

I dont have a DH but basketball and badminton are popular with that age, plus music....
