I'll go first ...

B&M is over rated

Most of the home decor is tacky
I can get cleaning products at in the supermarket without a separate trip.
It's not super cheap like people say when you really compare the prices

I don't believe in wedding gifts. I'll celebrate in person and bring a card but I'm not giving a gift, not even a wad of cash just because you've signed a contract.

fetchacloth · 21/05/2024 19:33

I agree. B&M was great a few years ago pre-pandemic, but now I think a lot of their tat is frankly overpriced.
There is better tat to be found in Poundland and elsewhere at lower prices.

Way too many people go to university than should. Used to be for the highly intelligent. Now any old numpty is accepted

Men are less cliquey and judgemental than women in some respects..
I work mainly with women but we also have around 15 guys too. They are far more inclusive on the whole. I have a couple of geeky male colleagues who are somewhat socially awkward. The women take the piss out of them surreptitiously but the guys always involve them in visits to the pub or trips out golfing etc. There’s gentle skitting but it seems good natured and it involves all of them. Otoh some of my female colleagues can make fairly close to the bone cruel comments about women who don’t fit in and don’t make an effort to include them.
Outside work our male neighbour has ‘open house’ in his garden bar aka garage. Happy to invite anyone that lives in our little square. His wife on the other hand is far more selective. Friendly enough but less openly welcoming.

In my 40 years of work I couldn't disagree more.

My female colleagues have generally been collaborative and supportive. Male colleagues have been competitive to the extent of deliberately trying to make each other look bad.

Babies should not have their ears pierced. No need.

Absolutely. Tacky and abusive.

whiteroseredrose · 21/05/2024 19:39

@sheroku I disagree about dogs. They joined us around the campfire.

But I definitely agree about farming. Tons of chemicals sprayed onto the land then washed into rivers. Fertilisers and insecticides including nicotinamides. We need insects not least bees for the planet's survival.

I like being single. I don't want a relationship. I've never wanted children and have never regretted being child free. I disagree with @SabreIsMyFave .

Yes, this with knobs.
I'm married, but if I live long enough, this would be my post.😁

Dogs should be treated as dogs, not treated like children.

Fed up of dogs having to be taken everywhere, pubs, garden centres, shops, cafes. Everywhere serving dog beer, treats and dog ice cream. Mats saying dogs welcome, children to be kept on a lead.

I want to go out without having to worry that someone's badly behaved yappy dog is going to nip my children.

Also, why are people obsessed with pedigree dogs that have numerous health problems because they've essentially got a small gene pool due to hundreds of years of inbreeding?

murasaki · 21/05/2024 19:42

Most people on here seem not to know what mortified means.

You cannot milk an oat or an almond. Call it something else.

Academic grade inflation does exist. Worryingly so.

Fatnold · 21/05/2024 19:44

Wow. A lot of dog haters on Mumsnet.

Owners of cats should be made to clear their pets shits from my garden, and donate to the RSPB as a punishment.

TheBOAT · 21/05/2024 19:46

Men might be physically stronger than women, but women have far more psychological power. Overall it balances out that neither gender is oppressed by the other.

I have a dog.

I would come to collect my cats shit if you can prove it's mine.

I already donate to RSPB

The ‘middle of Lidl’ should not exist!!! Nobody needs a circular saw or 4 man tent whilst picking up their weekly food shop.

I think what this means is: men are led by their dicks and it's all women's fault.

I actually quite like dogs, I just don't understand why people humanise them and talk/treat them as if they're babies.

A dog is a pet, not another child. Yes humans have had them for years, yes they can protect the family. Should they be taken everywhere with you- no.

I went to a garden centre recently- nothing fancy. Every other person had their dog with them, walking around and there was dogs shitting and pissing all around the car park. Why on earth do you need to take a dog to a garden centre- they could stay at home for the hour or two.

Dogs are also a fashion statement. Too many people have dogs that they haven't trained properly because they have no idea how to.

Yes!!

Babies don't need to be fashionable. They need to be able to move around, learn how to use their bodies, throw up/wee/poo on themselves, be changed fast, sleep comfortably.

They do not need a huge fck off bow on their head or to be insta ready.

Plus, how adorable are their little feet? Much cuter than any trainers.

Mugcake · 21/05/2024 19:56

I really dislike the taste of cinnamon and its in so many things! Especially around Christmas

People who let their dogs off the lead without being able to recall them are the worst. I don't want them jumping on me/DC/ stealing toys and food etc. I don't care if they're super cute, I don't want them all over me and knocking my toddler to the floor!

Also, vegan bacon is not bacon. Any vegan "meat" is not meat. Just call it something else. Not everyone needs bacon.

Snowonthebeachx · 21/05/2024 20:03

Opinions I would not voice in real life (or be very careful who I voided them to).

Officially give your child a full name and not a nickname then they have more choice. I don't understand all the babies officially called Charlie/Ollie etc.

Your abroad wedding will not be a holiday for everyone else. It will be a faff! (Different if you have close links to that country)

Asking for money as a wedding present is a bit tacky especially if you use that awful poem about having lived together for many years etc.

Some women have more kids than they should partly because they like the kudos/aattention.

Babies in jeans are naff.

Not unpopular opinion on mumsnet but baby showers are tacky. You should only celebrate a baby who is here.

Children under three and maybe even two shouldn’t ideally be in Nursery. Especially not full time. (I know. I know. Would NEVER say it out loud)

British people are massive hypocrites when it comes to animals. They love dogs but are happy for lots of pigs, who are arguably more intelligent, to live in horrible conditions.

Peternabbit · 21/05/2024 20:03

Humans are not carnivores.
If we were then we'd be able to catch our prey with our bare hands and eat it raw.

It's a bacon substitute. Why does it offend you so? Just don't buy it.

You mean we can hypnotise men trying to assault, bully or rape us? Wish I'd known that sooner!

Instead of sending weapons and humanitarian aid to war zones, governments should just send a bunch of women to psychologically stop the fighting. Wonder why they haven't done it?

I see you've missed the point of the thread.

I don't buy it. I was responding to someone saying you can't milk an oat. Have you been rude to them too? All I said was call it something else. It seems.to have triggered you though.

muggart · 21/05/2024 20:08

Offering junk food and sugary treats to other people's children should be heavily, heavily stigmatised.
And treats etc shouldn't be allowed in schools. No chocolate bars from teachers for passing spelling tests, no cake on birthdays, no croissants on "French Day". This obsession that adults have with plying children with sugary crap could just... stop.

I really haven't. I haven't been remotely rude. I asked you a question and explained why it was called bacon. Its normally called facon or 'this isn't bacon' actually.

And I saw your comment. Do I need to ask permission to respond?

Also there are shite loads of popular opinions on here. People saying dogs shouldn't be off lead with no recall, people shouldn't pierce babies ears etc. They aren't unpopular are they?
