If someone tells you they enjoy holidays in the Caribbean, what do you think?

Do you think “snob” “posh” or “twit”

OP posts:
MotherofPearl · 16/05/2024 21:16

I wouldn't think any of the things you've suggested OP.

I personally would feel slightly odd going on holiday to the Caribbean because I know quite a lot about the history of transatlantic slavery, and for me sitting on a Caribbean beach, sunbathing and sipping cocktails, would be the same as having a jolly picnic in the grounds of Auschwitz: I just wouldn't be able to enjoy it.

But I fully accept that most other people don't share my (maybe strange!) view about this, and don't judge them for enjoying Caribbean holidays.

Pollipops1 · 16/05/2024 21:16

The sea is so much warmer & shark attacks are rare.

YaWeeFurryBastard · 16/05/2024 21:17

She sounds horrible and jealous. Maybe I’m spoilt but I personally don’t think of the Caribbean as snobby/posh/rich, we’ve been a few times and will be back.

Posh places I think are South Africa/kenya/safari, South Pacific or Antarctica!

BouleDeSuif · 16/05/2024 21:17

I'd think that they enjoy holidays in the Caribbean.

Chewbecca · 16/05/2024 21:21

Your colleague sounds like a twit.

Chewbecca · 16/05/2024 21:22

Although it could have been said in a really jolly, unserious tone and be very funny.

It's like a bath.

DinnaeFashYersel · 16/05/2024 21:24

Your colleague is obnoxious

MotherofPearl · 16/05/2024 21:25

Gosh, what a rude colleague OP.

mitogoshi · 16/05/2024 21:26

I think that's nice, I liked the Caribbean too though I've only been once

InterrudelyUpted · 16/05/2024 21:29

that sounds lovely for December - are the grenadines nice? Where do you fly to and what are the transfers like?

<misses point of thread>

mitogoshi · 16/05/2024 21:29

Your colleague is obviously jealous, I find that generally those who make comments like that would love to go themselves but have partners who are miserable so and sos who insist on U.K. holidays or towing a caravan to France, worse still own a £50k motor home or a narrow boat.

Ephme · 16/05/2024 21:12

Thank you.

I mentioned to a colleague at work that I’d just booked a holiday for December. She asked me where and I said oh one of the Grenadine islands in the Caribbean. We love it there.

She said “God you sound like such a snobby posh twit”.

Sheer jealousy and with good reason; the Caribbean is the greatest. Enjoy x

Doyouthinktheyknow · 16/05/2024 21:33

We have booked a Caribbean cruise for a milestone wedding anniversary. I think even by MN standards that probably does make me a twit😜🤣

I don’t care, I love cruising!

abracadabra1980 · 16/05/2024 21:38

I would think 'how'! It's just not my cup of tea at all.

Pupupthenight · 16/05/2024 21:42

I think wow I bet it's beautiful there. I'd probably ask them about it.

What do you think?

Miracleasap · 16/05/2024 21:48

ThursdayTomorrow · 16/05/2024 20:58

I would think they were very rich and boasting.

How sheltered. Maybe their family are Carribean and go back to visit ...

BettyUnderswoob · 16/05/2024 21:50

What a rude colleague. I beg she's jealous. I hope you laughed in her face and told her how green her eyes looked.

I went once to the Caribbean. I liked it.

1ittlegreen · 16/05/2024 21:51

Sandals

BeaRF75 · 16/05/2024 21:52

None of those - what a ridiculous question! I'd think "how lovely that they have such great holidays - perhaps they can recommend somewhere to me".
Grow up, OP - your jealousy is unattractive.

WhotheHellisEdgar · 16/05/2024 21:52

Isitisit · 16/05/2024 20:54

I think. . . They have been to the Caribbean and enjoyed it?

Yep!

And possibly also ..... good for them I'd love to go some day.

LakeTiticaca · 16/05/2024 21:55

I would think maybe they have saved very hard for a dream holiday.
People actually do that, didn't you know?
Calling someone a snob because they have worked hard and saved hard just sounds like sour grapes

BeaRF75 · 16/05/2024 21:55

Sorry, OP, I just saw your second post!
It's clearly your colleague withe jealousy issues, and they're very rude too.

m00rfarm · 16/05/2024 21:55

With those of you who think it is incredibly expensive to fly to Barbados (for example), you can fly around €500 return in December with Virgin (the start of the high season). It costs WAY more than that for a flight to Portugal in July or August. And it is possible to get cheap hotels there. So no - I don't think it is someone boasting. It is available to pretty much anyone who wants to go!
