What's a nice, smooth red wine to drink?

I tried an Australian merlot last week that I bought from Tesco but it was fairly sharp on the tongue and I couldn't finish the bottler.

I am currently drinking a french cabernet sauvignon and it's better than the wine I had last week but it's still a little bit sharp on the tongue.

I am looking for a smooth red wine to drink. Something that would be easy to drink.

Any recommendations for me and thanks.

Malbec all day long

Im afraid I cannot abide new world wines. I used to drink a lot of wine and just came to the conclusion I only like French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese. There is always something too metallic, spicy, tinny, sharp, bitter about new world.

I cant explain why there would be given there are lots of world wide wine houses but there it is

I cant really drink now these days so would give anything to have any wine quite frankly!!!

Feel like I should really contribute here based on my name😁
I'll agree with the pp in getting a malbec, my current 2 budget friendly favourites when on offer are Pepperbox and Trapiche.

Toooldforthis36 · 12/05/2024 21:33

Pinot noir?

ACatCalledPuss · 12/05/2024 21:34

I really like californian reds, eg Apothic, dark horse and carnivor.

TwoBlueFish · 12/05/2024 21:35

Pinot noir is usually my go to.

Back21970 · 12/05/2024 21:35

I like a Bordeaux - Morrisons have a great selections of wines.

Merlot probably one of the least smooth IMO, not my favourite but would take a glass if offered 🤣

Waaaaainnne · 12/05/2024 21:36

Pinot noir. There’s a goodish smooth cheap one by Bicycleta or something in Tesco. 11% and open it a good 40 mins before you drink it. Slips down a treat.

Yellowtail shiraz has a toasted marshmallow flavour to it 😋

If you ve got a Co op nearby and are lucky, there's a Spanish red wine called Kingpin which is Tempranillo, Shiraz, Cabernet blend and absolutely gorgeous.

RandomMess · 12/05/2024 21:39

Yes a good Pinot noir

Yummy

Another recommended Californian red:

this is excellent - was recomended on saturday kitchen about 10 years ago and weve been drinking it ever since!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/05/2024 21:47

Everyone always says merlot for easy drinking, but I prefer a French pinot noir. And it doesn't have to be expensive. For Italian, a nero d'avola.

CommeIlFaut · 12/05/2024 21:47

I find New World reds are often rather sharp and tannic. I generally prefer reds from cooler climes.

A French or German Pinot noir should be nice and smooth. New Zealand also makes some super Pinot Noir.

19 Crimes, The Uprising, Australian, 13.5%

Most Wanted, Italy, Puglia, also 13.5%

I don't like wine unless it's very sweets my friend went to Buckfast recently, and I asked him to get me some tonic wine to try. It's delicious!!

millivani · 12/05/2024 22:25

We tried snoop dog tonight and it was actually not at all bad, would recommend for an enjoyable easy red. Cool bottle too.

Shuttheblinds · 12/05/2024 22:27

19 Crimes is my favourite at the moment, it’s so easy to drink.

BoudiccaOfSuburbia · 12/05/2024 22:30
