CF allotment thief thread no 4 - Babs’s dodgy solicitor and TV producers looking to cast for the role of Penfold?

New thread! Last one was here
www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/5049200-cf-allotment-thief-part-3-the-plot-thickens-and-auditions-begin-for-the-west-end-musical?page=38&reply=135136744

So a quick update.

DH dropped me off for my surgery this morning then dropped the kids at school before heading to the allotment. Babs was there gardening as were some other people on their own plots. All her crap was still there

DH went up and reminded her that she needs to be off the plot by the 20th. She said that she is awaiting advice from her solicitor to see if she can challenge us. She also said if the solicitor says she has to be off, she will be gone by the 20th but isn’t giving it up without checking if she has rights first. She did a fair bit of guilt tripping to DH about how she has spent 10 years being part of a community and having a hobby and she now has to give it all up but he held strong and told her, unless she comes back with a legitimate legal claim her property will be off the allotment by the 21st - wether it’s removed by her or by him.

However - enter Penfold stage right

Penfold is what we are calling the allotment neighbour who marched over from the other side of the plots (because that’s who he looks like). He started shouting at DH saying “You’re a bully! Fancy picking on an old lady and taking her allotment off her after all her years of hard work”. He pointed out it’s his allotment now and Penfold said that “just because your name is on a piece of paper it doesn’t give you the right to steal it off it’s rightful owner”. He then start saying “What do you know about gardening pretty boy? These allotments should be for real gardeners not pretty boys like you”

When DH told me this I laughed so hard I thought my stitches may burst 😂 DH IS very pretty but he’s also mid-40’s and hasn’t been called pretty in many many years. We are in semi-rural Yorkshire though and a man wearing a top that isn’t either blue black or white is considered a feminine.

When DH stated he does actually know about gardening, Penfold was all “Yeah right yeah right all you know about is putting your make up on” 🤣🤣 and said how these allotment owners have been around for decades he can’t just barge in and kick people out. DH said he was half expecting Penfold to say “this is a local allotment for local people”.

Then it was BABS of all people who told Penfold to STFU. Not quite those words but she said “oh do calm down Nigel”. The other plot owners just kept their heads down apparently. DH took off in the end but he is considering buying a Danger Mouse t-shirt to wear when he gardens. I’ve told him I can help him apply his make up 😂.

Anyway Babs’s words don’t exactly fill me with confidence but it’s better than flat out refusing to leave I suppose. I’m absolutely confident that legally she hasn’t a leg to stand on, but that doesn’t mean some dodgy solicitor won’t claim otherwise for a bit of easy money off her. Either way unless there is a claim that has legs (highly unlikely) DH will be round on the 21st to set up his stuff. PP were right about insane allotment owners - but we are just gonna have to lump it and not let Penfold ruin our time there.

I’m fairly new to Mumsnet but this thread has been a revelation. We started with Claim Jumping, work our way through medical issues and are currently swapping Chocolate Cake and Brownie recipes.

I think I’ll stay 😀

We're supposed to have good weather in Yorkshire tomorrow - I hope Pretty Boy will be showing Penfold his six pack....

It's such a lovely thread, I enjoy keeping up with it and it makes me smile. You've created a wee bit of joy, @YaMuvva , thank you!

I add chopped vacuum packed beetroot to my pasta ragu that I make in the slow cooker over 24 hours on low. Its mde with onions, garlic, peppers, ginger, sundried tomatoes, olives, capers, tomato puree and plenty of olive oil with a good shake of chilli flakes. I puree and bag, freezes very well. Great with spaghetti or a pasta sauce base. I top spaghetti with fried crispy bread crumbs, chopped avocado and grated parmigiana. A feast.

A great Australian recipe for beetroot is to mix olive oil, balsamic vinegar, bit of fresh ginger and garlic grated with chilli flakes. Gently warm and add cubed beetroot and toss and warm through.
Gorgeous with a steak.

Thinly sliced beetroot added to a Boulangere receipe is wonderful too.

Am definitely trying that cake recipe.

PS I make a savoury jewelled cous cous using dried cranberries and chopped dried apricot, and a mixture of any of cashews, sunflower seeds, pine nuts, pistachios, chopped spring onion, chopped red pepper. I don't use green peppers, hot peppers or peanuts because I don't like them but you could use them too. Always use a decent stock with cous cous, not plain water.

Crikey! Is there anything that's not in that? It sounds amazing.

Mind you, I'll be trying the cake recipe as well.

Honestly you cannot fuxk up the recipe. It is all vegetables crudely cut, drained jars of sundried tomatoes, capers, olives. Whatever you have, I add anchovies too, because they melt in and add such flavour. Slow cooked. When pureed and bagged, it is the easiest dinner to make.
I always have aldi cream cheese in the fridge, so adding that makes it creamy with pasta.
When teens have been here to eat, I might take a bag from the freezer into a pot, add in the cream cheese, do large chicken goujons in the airfryer and chop them on top, add grated cheese.

I have several vegan friends and they adore this. Probably takes me 30 minutes to chop the veg and open the jars...throw in any wine lying around too! But I will get 10 dinners from this. Bagged up in the freezer.
Because it is smooth, fruity and full of flavor, children love it.
The best gift to a friend under pressure to throw in the freezer.
Of every 10 bags I make, 5 constantly get gifted.

OK, I pledge you all this - I will make beetroot soup when DH’s beetroot has grown.
If it’s revolting I’m falling out with you all 😂😂

Beet soup, or borscht, is a family staple for us with grandparents from eastern europe. Several years ago I - gasp! - changed it to a pureed beet soup for Christmas:
Chop beets into smaller pieces and boil with chopped onion.
When beets are soft remove and blend with some of the onion to a puree.
Return to another pot over low heat and add full fat whipping cream to achieve soup consistency you like and season with salt and pepper to taste.
Ladle into bowls and serve with a dollop of sour cream, finely chopped fresh dill and spring onion/chives.

Every time a carton of beetroot juice goes through my till I think of the Op @YaMuvva
( yes i work in a supermarket, and no it's not something that sells much ! )

We had 4 very entertaining threads re Babs / Penfold etc etc which involved into recipes and so on and so forth.

Some people thought/felt it was all a wind up, maybe it was maybe it wasn't

did it matter we don't need to read threads / join in if we don't want to.
Rumour has it that the Op got a ban for saying something on a different thread but rumour also has it that it was a temporary ban. Of course the Op could have returned with a name change.

Of course I will spend the rest of my life wondering if indeed the Op did make beetroot soup for her dh ?!!!

But it is a shame that this thread lay dormant for 6 months+

someone bumps it back up and the reply is deleted ! and I didn't see it in time to read it.

Enter Penfold stage right

Without an ending the TV show will never be made now. 😩

I saw it, it said something like.... Good to see OP is around again... No idea why it was deleted, it didn't break any guidelines that I could see.

The same poster has had a few posts deleted on some other threads I've seen this morning, so I'm guessing they were not a genuine poster...

I think it was because they were troll-hunting/outing a name change.

I was on the partybag-gate thread 2 and saw they'd tons of posts deleted there, so I guess there was a mass deletion of all their posts.
