Most hated adverts

I’m sure we’ve had this thread before, but there are always new shit adverts 😁

My least favourite at the moment is the new Sainsbury’s ad where the boy says, “Daaaaaad…” and the dad cuts in with “Don’t say it!” before the boy asks what’s for dinner. Flummoxed looking dad then turns to the camera and asks “Any ideas, Sainsbury’s?”

What’s that all about? Is it really an outlandish question for a child to ask? It’s not like he wants to go to Disney World. It isn’t unusual for children to expect to be fed, and quite why the dad is so bewildered at the idea of having to think of something when dinner happens every day of every year, I can’t imagine.

What are your most hated ads?

Another vote for On the Beach. Overweight kid stuffing himself at the buffet, plus a voiceover by Paddy McGuiness. I guess I am not the target market, but is there anyone here who this appeals to?

rumred · 22/06/2024 16:15

Dominoes absolute fucking tripe.
All the booze adverts (I thought they'd been banned along with fag ads). Everyone in them is young, happy, in a hot country. Boils my blood.
Rspca ads. In my experience they do very little in real life.

Likeshotchoc · 22/06/2024 16:20

Does anyone else find the Amazon adverts to be mostly cringey? There's the one with the girls playing football which tries to present itself like it's promoting women playing sports. It's just an extended advert for tat that Amazon hope you'll buy from them. There are also the Amazon ads where they have actors playing employees who claim they love their jobs at Amazon. It's basically propaganda. It's widely known that Amazon treat their workers like shit.

tobee · 22/06/2024 16:24

Beckham is doing several ads at the moment. Probably needs the money 😉

Me too! This never happens ever!

I don't think I've seen a toilet roll advert that wasn't in some way foul or unpleasant! Adverts for sanpro products are also very often cringey.

Yes

Just come in the room with an advert with another person on the loo @Likeshotchoc. Seen it so many times recently and it's not great.

Bonbon21 · 22/06/2024 16:46

Tampax one with the guy.. wtf!
Tena...this is NOT normal Folks!!
Daisy Daisy.. makes my flesh crawl.
Botham...
Life insurance ads with celebs who have no morals..

WitchesAndBitches · 22/06/2024 16:47

For me it's Specsavers radio adverts with Rob Brydon. I
HAVE to turn off as that man for some reason gives me the creeps in a bad way.
It's like a visceral reaction 🤢

Walker crisps with David Beckham. It’s not terribly exactly, just stupid and pointless.

Oh I like that one - it is fun

PlayBo · 22/06/2024 18:06

Different strokes. I just see a lot of inane grinning about what I’m not clear!

MeinKraft · 22/06/2024 23:16

Oh yeah the tena advert with the woman sitting on the toilet who pours water from the flower vase onto her tena pad and says ye can stay dry for up to 12 hours! Why did they have to literally have her sitting on the toilet with no trousers on Confused

Gosh I hate that advert - it is revolting and always comes on at dinnertime.... I mean what is wrong with these advertisers. That disgusting slurping pot noodle ad too, I switched off and refused to buy it as a punishment to them!

They used to have one with a teenage schoolgirl sitting on the loo with her knickers around her ankles, I kid you not. I complained about that one and I think it was upheld. I think the advertisers and company do it deliberately to be shocking, which is disgraceful of course in itself. I mean, we know what a pad is.

bloodyeffinnora · 23/06/2024 00:20

The United Utilities advert on the radio with the annoying kid who has the most irritating, annoying laugh/giggle at the end of it.

LadyAddle · 23/06/2024 00:34

Cunard - patronising fruity voiceover, saying "I wonder I wonder" and listing all the things you'd do - don't know how it ends because by then I've seized the remote and it's muted.

Elderflower14 · 23/06/2024 04:00

Mrs Bulky Pee Pants who ends up on a man's shoulders at a concert!!!

Elderflower14 · 23/06/2024 04:03

Whydoikeeprejoining · 02/05/2024 21:50

A radio one that says "booking genius" obviously meant to sound like fucking genius. When my children started copying it, I stopped laughing and instead found it annoying.

Another radio one. SELCO. It has to be shouted.

There was m&m ad with a weird cheating implication. I hated it at the time.

"SCOTT'S HOME EARRRRRRLLLLY!!!"

Oh yes - I hate that advert too - OMG constantly repeated and always on around dinner time. I mean who would even say that in real life.....??

Catsolitude · 23/06/2024 08:42

100% that Maltesers one. Absolutely foul. Gerald the companion is so wet and the “getting it on” comment is just so unnecessary. It’s not a clever advert, it’s not amusing and it gives me rage. I won’t be buying Maltesers until it’s off my screen (or it’s Christmas. Whichever is first 😂)

There used to be one for Tena or similar with a 50-something woman in the gym saying she was off to use the free weights - “Or should I say, pee weights”.

No! No, you absolutely shouldn’t!!

On the beach with that awful family with the spiteful fat son....never did an advert put me off more if that's the type of people who go

DW has said we are NEVER booking a holiday with that firm and she meant it!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 23/06/2024 10:13

Lebara - that wild-eyed grinning woman. No idea what she's saying as ads get muted in this house
Verisure - is that Katherine Ryan doing them now? still shit
Octopus - 'this is what real customer service sounds like' in a smug self-satisfied voice. No Octopus, you've picked out a few favourable reviews to make an ad
Any toilet ad - and they seem to be getting worse
As mentioned above, Cunard

Probably some more, I tend to use ads as pee/tea break/top up water time.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/06/2024 11:20

Just saw the David Beckham/Walkers crisps advert .

Clever idea but I don't want to see it again , it was cringey .
<Disclaimer - not a football fan, I only just recognised DB so it's wasted on me >

tobee · 23/06/2024 12:12

Too many erectile dysfunction advents. Particularly the one with the woman on her laptop and the guy gyrating with the hoover hose. On all times of the day. WTF!

Why are there so many erectile dysfunction adverts EVERYWHERE?
